Healthy SPFL, you know it’s over when the enablers bale

749

It took until 5th October but Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership for the first time.  The valiant stand by the Highlanders went the way of Culloden but whereas the competition for first place us over for the season, the league has a promising look to it.

The SPL suffered for many years not exclusively because Celtic and Rangers dominated but because those teams who should have been snapping at their heels – the city clubs – were hugely underachieving.

Motherwell have done enormously well finishing ‘best of the rest’ for three years but they are inhibited by being the third best supported team in Motherwell (population 30,311).  Their coaching and scouting infrastructure would provide a completely different platform if they were one of the top-flight clubs from Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Below Celtic sit Motherwell, and the other very well run SPFL club, Inverness, but behind them are Aberdeen and Dundee United, who for once sit above the detritus (sorry, Kilmarnock, but you are a terribly run football club) and plucky upstarts (Ross County, from Dingwall, population 5,026).  Even Hibs are rallying.  They will return to the top half of the table if they beat Partick Thistle tonight.

Of the big city clubs, only Hearts (in Administration) are off the pace, and even their league status is bound to be rescued when Kilmarnock’s name is inevitably written with the accompanying parenthesis.

As we’ve noted here often before, when the Daily Record finally acknowledges the reality Celtic websites have long explained about the Rangers group of clubs, you know it’s too late to do anything about it.  Today’s piece in the newspaper confirms what we’ve known for a long time, the white flag has been raised.  If they were more circumspect before declaring the unquestionable business acumen of the Ibrox key-holder, at any point over the last 15 years, the spivs would have been unable to fill their boots.

All those fawning pieces simply enabled the misdeeds.

While we are on the topic of enablers, what is the price of loyalty?  £825k, apparently.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Great Scottish Run for 1254125.  It turned into a great Celtic day with participants ranging from the dedicated athletes to those on the high side of 20st who grabbed the chance to make a different to their own lives, as well as others.

It’s happening again next year, so you have plenty time to get ready.  The sooner you start preparing the better.

My sincere thanks to the many people who contributed to the 1254125 MyDonate page I put up on Friday.  It now sits at an incredible £935, I’ll leave it up for a few days more to see if we can break into four figures.

Thanks for all your help.

So are you saying they are not responsible ?

Or are you simply trying to kill the discussion and turn it into a personality issue, that being your usual MO when people are discussing issues you don’t like, honestly if you’ve nothing to add to the discussion except drivel like that why even comment? You know fine well who is responsible for the health and safety of the employees it’s the same for all Plc companies, having a go at me because I make it clear does not negate their responsibilities in any way.

Good to see you back to your argumentative self you must feel in good health, long may it continue.

On the subject of comestibles at Celtic park.

On my first visit to the ground in 1960 I was about to eat a packet of crisps that me old dad had bought for me. Having unscrewed the wee blue paper pack of salt and applying it per the custom and just about to start eating I was interrupted by the complete stranger sitting next to me who offered to pour some of his screw tap beer into the packet. Horrified, but always polite, I demurred. I remember my dad laughing but I took it seriously and for many years afterwards assumed that pale ale was an accepted condiment.

We got beaten by St Johnstone by the way.

To be fair myself included, I usually had a “few beers” prior to games against the deid club, haven’t had a “few beers” since their demise, think most were the same. Now, maybe have one on the way to the ground, but I think we need to look at various avenues and a few beers within the stadium nowadays wouldn’t stir up any problems.

When someone gets up, to go to the toilet or get a pie, do you chin them…? Naw I thought not, aye it annoys but we keep it to ourselves and say, nae bother mate..

I am reminded of a story some years back regarding the Irish golfer Eamon Darcy.

He had the most awkward, unorthodox swing, however, he was a very good golfer.

He was invited by Ping to visit their Chicago (i believe) centre with a view to him using their clubs.

Anyway to cut a long story short, after a long and very technical tour and presentation by the management he was asked what he thought.

He is reported to have said –

Fantastic clubs, but they are f*** all use if you canny play!

    Enjoy your new clubs!

    The property is being sold.

The purchaser /new owner is not losing money.

They will make a rental income from the rent as the landlord.

10% yield is a good return for a landlord and would attract lots of interested buyers.

The risk us the solvency of the tenant.

If the renagers go bust , you lose your tenant.

Finding another needy tenant would be almost impossible.

Also The Renagers will not be losing £1m a month in two seasons.

This year they have had £6m in one off IPO costs.

They will also be able to increase admission charged to match Celtics.

It is likely when they first return to the top league they will outsell us in season ticket sale and generate more income than us from domestic gate receipts.

Another administration before then ( which will only happen if they want it)

Will only serve to reduce there current outgoings.

When they get into the top league , their income from domestic football will match ours , and expenditure from both clubs will be similar .

Only CL income with separate the clubs.

The two horse race for this will begin all over again.

    Our PLC want this outcome.

They have never had any desire to ensure that no team ever competes from Ayebrokes , against us again.

Infact , they are counting the days until The Renagers return.

    Lasley – Matthews

I wish we had a grafter with some ‘dig’ in midfield who can tackle like Lasley.

    Macleod / Burley / Petrov / Lennon / Hartley / Robson / Kayal(1st season)

they are what I look for 1st in the Cellic midfield – get the battle won 1st

    then play the fitba.

Back to – Lasley v Matthews

I think it was more to do with the way Adam landed than the tackle. imo

It’s more annoying when we’re on the ‘sore’ end of theses tackles when we know

that we’ve naebdy in oor team to gie them it back. imo

Apologies to anyone who objects to this or to Paul67 if he thinks I’m taking advantage of the blog, but I feel this is similar to what is happening to football supporters under the SNP legislation. The only difference in this case is that there is no legislation!

I don’t know the hotel but if it is at the corner of the Navona close to the Via Vittorio Emmanuelle then you are in a great location.

The Navona is spectacular by day but especially at night and you are within walking distance of the Piazza Venezia, The Capitol, Victor Emmanuelle, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Fantana di Trevi, Via Del Corso, the Pantheon, Santa Maria Minerva and so much more.

From there you can also walk to Trastevere and St Peter’s — the only down side is that you are a wee walk to a tube station — nearest might the Cavour or Colosseum but you are right in the heart of it there.

You are also pretty near one or two Irish bars if that is your fancy too lol.

    Philbhoy

Eamon Darcy admitted that when he started out as a pro he was not even a scratch golfer — he just fancied his chances and was good at beating people so he gave it a go.

So– there is hope for a lot of folk in that.

  17. Seen a young guy in the midfield for Cellic in the summer – a young ‘tiger’ of a player.

I thought – good – ‘that’ is what we’ve been looking for. imo

Next thing I know – he’s off to Killie ?

Who the feck made that call.

Would I be right in saying that there are ’23’ trainers at Lennoxtown / Barrowfield

and by my reckoning – in what(?) 17 years(?) – only ‘one’ player who you could call

Celtic class – Aiden McGeady – has been produced ?

I’ve said it before – and been caned off the blog for doing so(what the hell do I care ?)

Neil Lennon dizny have the – sage / savvy / streetwise ‘eye’ that is required at the Cellic. imo

    But, big Mark McGhee does….
