Hearts biggest hurdle is the Celtic jersey

69 games undefeated in domestic football, setting a new Scottish record, but eventually, Things Fall Apart and Celtic lost 4-0 at Tynecastle.  It was Brendan Rodgers’ first defeat to a Scottish club, 18 months after taking over as manager.  Celtic were not even bad that day; when Hearts went three ahead shortly after halftime, the comeback was still a real possibility.  We didn’t make the most of our chances and everything they hit flew into the net.  There is always a danger, even against poor teams.

Whatever joy Hearts felt that day was sorely paid for since.  In the 21 subsequent games between the sides, Celtic won on 19 occasions.  The only two exceptions came when Celtic were in the middle of European qualifiers.  As a friend noted yesterday, Hearts players biggest hurdle is seeing the Celtic jersey.  They just cannot cope against imperious champions.

Curiously, elsewhere, people are looking at Celtic’s two visits to Edinburgh within the next eight days and seeing opportunity for themselves, hoping their Hour Come Round at Last.  You and I are well used to hearing at this time of year, the Second Coming is at hand.  Two wins for the good guys will fix that nonsense.

Just said, people kill for it, steal for it and die for it. Why don’t they try and live for it.

Bobby Charlton signed for Celtic for a day to allow him to appear for Celtic in Ron Yeats testimonial at Anfield when Celtic beat Liverpool 4-1.

    ****^^^^**^^

Remember it well. Got the bus package that took in a couple of overnight stays at Blackpool.

Game was pretty dire, though. Dalglish, Macari et al trying hard not to score, then Big Billy set up Bobby Charlton with an easy chance 20 yards out for one of Bobby’s trademark screamers only for the great one to nearly knock the floodlights out. Kinda put me off testimonials for a while but, as you say, a great day out.

Met his Mum and Dad a couple of times when they holidayed in Rothesay. Really nice, down to earth folk.

Bobby really was the real deal – hard not to like.

    😂

Reading the BBC site, it seems Hibs gifted them most of not all of their goals by trying to play out from the back and giving the ball straight to them to attack.

Not as impressive as the score line would suggest. 😃👍🍀🇮🇪🏆

  9. well that score is no surprise after all the leith louts are no friends of ours and NEVER have been, in fact I recall a family member tellin me that with the hearts it was better the devil you know as they were admitted calvinists whereas the hibs they were run by the masons.

  10. RIP Bobby Charlton.

A world class player and a world class gentleman.

    You will be sadly missed!

I dislike Arsenal and Chelsea in equal measure.

So tonight Matthew I’m a Chelsea fan.

    Same here Phil!

However, I fecking hate Arteta and Arsenal laying of 55 normal workers right at the start of COVID, then going out and spending over £100m on players in the next transfer window really rankles with me.

    I also like Poch.

Happy to see both of them lose most weeks, but would like a Chelsea win today.

  13. I’m thinking a message will be sent out the morra.
