Hearts biggest hurdle is the Celtic jersey

298

69 games undefeated in domestic football, setting a new Scottish record, but eventually, Things Fall Apart and Celtic lost 4-0 at Tynecastle.  It was Brendan Rodgers’ first defeat to a Scottish club, 18 months after taking over as manager.  Celtic were not even bad that day; when Hearts went three ahead shortly after halftime, the comeback was still a real possibility.  We didn’t make the most of our chances and everything they hit flew into the net.  There is always a danger, even against poor teams.

Whatever joy Hearts felt that day was sorely paid for since.  In the 21 subsequent games between the sides, Celtic won on 19 occasions.  The only two exceptions came when Celtic were in the middle of European qualifiers.  As a friend noted yesterday, Hearts players biggest hurdle is seeing the Celtic jersey.  They just cannot cope against imperious champions.

Curiously, elsewhere, people are looking at Celtic’s two visits to Edinburgh within the next eight days and seeing opportunity for themselves, hoping their Hour Come Round at Last.  You and I are well used to hearing at this time of year, the Second Coming is at hand.  Two wins for the good guys will fix that nonsense.

More fake crap all over social media about the GB being banned from away games, weeks after tickets for the next two away games were issued.

Here’s a wee tip. If you see social media reports about Celtic FC issuing statements about banning supporters, jump into the official Celtic website for confirmation.

    It’s common feckin sense.

  2. TOM MCLAUGHLIN:

It’s a fact. Just as it was a fact when I wrote about the other night.

Celtic HAVE released a statement on it. Just not on the official site.

“As the group in question has been informed in writing, this decision to suspend access to away tickets relates to very clear and extremely serious unsafe and unacceptable behaviour at recent away matches, including those against Feyenoord and Motherwell. As an example, at Feyenoord, widespread and unsafe use of pyrotechnics resulted in another fine for the Club from UEFA. Investigations are ongoing in relation to unsafe behaviour at Motherwell, including rushing turnstiles and forcing open fire exits to permit access to individuals without tickets.”

A very interesting WhatsApp message was rapidly being forwarded last night, apparently from a Question and Answer session with Brendan Rodgers.

The uneasy nature of his return to the club was cleared greatly by a win at Ibrox on September 3 followed by the eventual sacking of Micky Beale and the resulting meltdown on the dark side.

Rescuing the young supporter from the Police and Stewards away to Livingston helped his image with an appearance at St Roch’s on the way back from Santa Ponsa hard to pick fault with. On the back of the Daily Record’s Liel Abada fantasy Rodgers took the winger out for dinner to round off his busy Sunday.

The way that he reacted in February 2019 to the overbearing influence of Peter Lawwell into the playing side of the club seems to be an area of deep regret for Rodgers, something that he has had reinforced in almost every interaction since that decision.

Admirably he stuck by the decision when he returned to Celtic in June, confirming it as a career move while acknowledging the consequences at Celtic, quickly pointing the agenda forwards with the hope of improving on his first spell managing the club.

Late last night the following WhatsApp dropped in on me, it seems very plausible:

Just back from a Q&A at CP with the man, absolutely blown away, as humble as I’ve ever seen him!

Bit of a summary, he was choking back tears and struggling to speak when he talked about the kids he sees wearing their Celtic gear on the way to games and how that was him, when he sees the older guys it reminds him of uncles and elderly relatives that have passed, if that was an act it was Oscar winning stuff.

He knew how we felt about him leaving, would meet supporters all over the world and he felt that look of disappointment in him, he came back because he didn’t want to be that guy who was edited out of the history of this football club, that bit was very emotional.

On a lighter note, he’s here to stay, has no ambitions to go anywhere else, could be here another 2, 3, 5 or 7 years (his words), happy with the structure of the club, support from the board and the facilities he operates with are up with the best (post improvements that are being made)

Tried to get a couple of big players in before window closed, wanted 4 to improve the 1st team before Jota & Starfelt left, read from that what you will.

Loves Maeda and will play him as the main forward at times, he’s Kyogos back up, not Oh (BR never said that but how I read it)

Had dinner on Sunday with Abada, don’t believe the DR, strong boy mentally who wants to be here, back in December, as an aside another great example of his man management, knew what was going on and pro actively took him for dinner after he left St Roch’s.

Loads of other stuff, I’m sure some of the sound-bites will get out from other quarters but rest assured this man is on a mission and laser focused to ensure his Celtic legacy is at the fore of the annals and not edited out.

It is interesting, or diplomatic, to note that he is happy with the structure of the club but wanted four starters from the summer window. Hopefully that message is being taken on board by the real decision makers with the January window free of projects with more signings of the calibre of Alistair Johnston.

Everything sounds reasonable and believable, Rodgers is getting his message out, these days

events like that don’t remain in-house with the ball in the boardroom to deliver for their elite level manager.

A beautiful piece of reading material.

Celtic fans need to get behind the manager 100%, you can see he wants to do the chest pump at the end of the games, he is so passionate about us. Every thing thats went on previously has to be eradicated from the brains of the fickle fans. there like wee hurt school boys, grow up and move on. We’ve got a world class manager who will take us to where were wanting to go.

The fans need to be singing his name and making him feel welcome again, let him do his stuff.. get over it and embrace that we have got a top manager with us who want to take us to the next level and we need to do our part to help him, not act like huns

I hitch-hiked to Milan. Started off at Calderpark Zoo. Met up with my mate Phil Quinn, who was working in London at the time. Difficult time getting from London to Dover and missed the ferry to Calais! Ended up changing the whole route and going to Zeebrugge. Spent a couple of days at Lake Como as we ended up ahead of schedule. Slept rough a couple of nights in Milan. Remember having to change currencies at railway stations and banks in each country. Made the return trip very easy.

  14. Celtic FC supporters? We’re united in our interest re the field of play.

Take your politics onto the streets, if you have the balls.

  16. Brendan’s presser signalled bad news for Kobayashi’s long term prospects here, as well as hopes that wee Marco would instantly be the antipodean Jota.

Decoding phrases like hard transition and totally different intensity could suggest a gap in quality and energy between the best team in the A-league and the very best squad in the SPFL; cant recall how long it took Tom Rogic to get a regular starting berth with us?

As I said when we signed him – having watched him live – Tilio has a bag of Arzani-like tricks but a lack of physicality and a questionable final ball. I’m off to see his old club Melb City v Western Utd tonight.

Meanwhile I hope our scouts are seeing how Adelaide’s young Nestory Irankunda continues to look like a raw but very real deal.

    Bring on the hertz! HH

  17. The best ever sporting event I attended (aside from Celtic games of course) was the 1995 rugby World Cup final in Jo’burg.

Weird the two sides have never played each other in rugby wc since.

Hopefully that is our right later tonight.

  18. Be radical Sionnagh, simulate debate by turning up the volume on yir telly as you shout at it! Now give us a reb from those defined as terrorists a century ago!

Think it extends beyond the field of play,if that were tŕue you wouldnt be watching Celtic, they would be gone

I have no real interest in rugger.

Is it the 2 best sides in the final if England get there? I ask only as friend who has a liking suggests one side of draw weak and other strong.

Due to seedings after last WC finals. Is that so? Lot can happen in 4 years.

  20. AN TEARMANN

Let’s test that theory of yours. There’s a time and place for everything mo chara.

The likes of you and the Green Brigade don’t have a monopoly interpreting Celtic FC’s past. The present tense is clear enough via our shared set of positive values – Social Charter. Furthermore, Celtic FC’s vision is to alleviate poverty through working with our communities, in line with the founding ethos. Celtic FC value employability, education and social inclusion as routes out of poverty – Foundation Charity.

Why do you want more from Celtic FC than can be reasonably expected?

Hello again all you young rebels.

TEUCHTER AR LA/ AN TEARMANN BIG JIMMY and embdy I’ve missed

thank you for reply’s to my wee reminiscence about Milan.

Haven’t got the wherewithal to attempt another long post about my

hitchhike experience, it could fill a book the size of war and peace.

But I will tell you all one thing that has stayed in my memory and

wondered about for the last 50 odd years.

After a few days hitching, got myself to within the outskirts of Paris.

But spent the last day mostly walking as no lifts were forthcoming.

Found out later that a murder had been committed on two people

who picked up a hitchhiker, strange but true.

Decided to take the back roads and got picked up by various farm

tractors, food lorries etc for very small moves forward.

Thoroughly disillusioned I went for a lie down in a field to get some

sleep as I’d tried all night hoping to get a lift.

Only half a can of corned beef left in my haversack, so sitting there

    picking it out with a pencil… I know..I know.

Will I turn back ? and fell asleep.

🎶 Hail .Hail the Celts are here what the heck do we care now 🎶

Woke up, couldn’t believe it, is it a bus ? maybe a car stopped for

pee break, up and ran towards the tree lined road to see.

One lonesome figure, staggering along the road bare chested and

carrying a tricolour, no bag no top, just the flag.

Tried to stop him for a conversation, how’s he getting there ? Is he

meeting someone ? but no he just mumbled incoherently and

    marched on.

To this day I still wonder about that bould bhoy, did he get there ?

    home safely ?

Don’t suppose I’ll ever know, but that’s the magical attraction of

    this famous CELTIC.
