Hearts biggest hurdle is the Celtic jersey

298

69 games undefeated in domestic football, setting a new Scottish record, but eventually, Things Fall Apart and Celtic lost 4-0 at Tynecastle.  It was Brendan Rodgers’ first defeat to a Scottish club, 18 months after taking over as manager.  Celtic were not even bad that day; when Hearts went three ahead shortly after halftime, the comeback was still a real possibility.  We didn’t make the most of our chances and everything they hit flew into the net.  There is always a danger, even against poor teams.

Whatever joy Hearts felt that day was sorely paid for since.  In the 21 subsequent games between the sides, Celtic won on 19 occasions.  The only two exceptions came when Celtic were in the middle of European qualifiers.  As a friend noted yesterday, Hearts players biggest hurdle is seeing the Celtic jersey.  They just cannot cope against imperious champions.

Curiously, elsewhere, people are looking at Celtic’s two visits to Edinburgh within the next eight days and seeing opportunity for themselves, hoping their Hour Come Round at Last.  You and I are well used to hearing at this time of year, the Second Coming is at hand.  Two wins for the good guys will fix that nonsense.

To get within two minutes of a world Cup final while only play one team in the top seven seeds is remarkable 🙃.

That seeding was unbelievable…..on England’s side!

Very good tactical game of rugby. England boring as feck to watch and not interesting scoring tries. I realise the conditions weren’t conducive to running rugby, but they’ve played similarly for most of this competition.

SA through and deservedly so for their attitude and game management.

An outstanding final awaits and I hope SA do it!

Tbh, England were the better team for the first hour. SA just wouldn’t let it go and fair play to them. What a kick to win it! 😃👍🏆

  6. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Terrible for the northern hemisphere but, IMHO, a team playing like that making the final would have been a travesty.

A disgrace to the game of rugby.

10 did not pass to 12 all night.

1 phase, 1 ruck, then kick.

    Should have played Rob Andrew.

  8. Re Sir Bobby Charlton

It’s easy to get caught up in the grief of his death.

I sometimes wish we could look at death/life more pragmatically.

By that I mean……if I could have led the life that he had, playing a game I love for a living, winning the honours he won, living to the age he lived to, dying at that age when my health could take no more, I’d be more than happy. His health problems in his latter years, (particularly his dementia) would mean, as far as I’m concerned, death would come as a welcome relief. I am by no means attempting to belittle his death, but by putting it into perspective, would much rather celebrate his wonderful life.

Seeing some Caribbean and New Orleans funerals, where they celebrate the spirit passing to a new life rather than the death of the old life is the way I’d like to go. A celebratory funeral for Sir Bobby is what I’d like to see. No mourning, celebration

  9. …..with that being said…..I’ll be more than happy to move on when I’ve hit a sub 80 on the golf course. All on here are invited to that celebration if and when it happens

  12. Credit to SA. Grinding that out to set up a classic next weekend.

Real pity for Ireland and France but at least we have 2 of the worlds top teams playing out the final.

If it rivals 95 at Ellis Park as a spectacle then it will be something special. I am sure it will be better as a rugby game.

I can still feel that stadium shaking as that Jumbo jet flew over 10 mins before kick off.

  13. Glass Half Full

Spot on Re the tight and boring England game.

Billy Beaumont type tactics from 87/88/89 era. Hideous rugby.

Thanks goodness they failed. Ireland and France were another level.

  16. Whoever wins the World Cup final next week, the fact is South Africa and New Zealand will have won seven of ten finals between them. And yet they have never played each other in a final since 1995.

Celtic FC supporters? We’re united in our interest re the field of play.

Take your politics onto the streets, if you have the balls.

    AN TEARMANN

Let’s test that theory of yours. There’s a time and place for everything mo chara.

The likes of you and the Green Brigade don’t have a monopoly interpreting Celtic FC’s past. The present tense is clear enough via our shared set of positive values – Social Charter. Furthermore, Celtic FC’s vision is to alleviate poverty through working with our communities, in line with the founding ethos. Celtic FC value employability, education and social inclusion as routes out of poverty – Foundation Charity.

Why do you want more from Celtic FC than can be reasonably expected?

    Sonnaigh

Do one with associating me with Celtic fans called the green brigade,i have enough lookin after my own opinion, not a member of them,no association with them,if i knew who they were i would have no problems getting in about them i certainly feel that way about Bell&Cooper addons.i dont know every Celtic fan

I dont claim to have any ‘monopoly on Celtics past.i know we are a club proud of our Irish Heritage,I am too, personally i dont know any finer example of the Irish diaspora at work on this planet than the football club Celtic,we are open to all, always have been, and in the land that gave us the reformation,no matter the shlap put on that is snide to us,we are And that is no mean feet.we are and always have been symbol of hope,to those less fortunate than ourselves,we were born a generation from An Gorta Mor,our attitude to oppression is in us,we are of it.

So me personally when i walk as i did with thousands, this and last saturday in Glasgow it is against the irrationality being inflicted on Gazans, thats not demeaning the irrational events by Hamas on the 7th,horrid as they were,an eye for an eye leaves us blind and life totally meaningless

Nice tho it is to read quotes from the foundations Social charter views that is a given and has been since i first followed Celtic,or went to a supporters function that gave money to those less well of.The foundation is a multi £million function of the support,it does great work and is an exponential improvement on the pitiful amount given by the club pre 1994,as shown in early copy of NTV

When i cited 1994 as a time when we look at more than ‘on the field of play’ i was not jokin,if we didnt look off the field then you and i would not be typin!!

I dont want anythin more from Celtic than continuing to be a symbol of hope over oppression, light over darkness and a symbol of life to all who comes thro its doors, regardless of belief,Catholic,Protestant,Jew,Muslim all welcome and all adding to Celtics ongoing history as a successful team, successful in that we have survived since leaving the hall on 6/11/1888,thro hard times and now a successful time.

I dont want a neutral, corporately homogenised Celtic where you sit and watch the match and go home,Celtic is us,we are Celtic, hope over oppression thats why i will showin my dissent next home game to world events.

We are political from the off.Sir Bob showed that re Tricolour and Ferencvaros draw after Czech invasion

Now play us a reb,pre or post GFA,i dont mind any song of ireland.you have done so aplenty.

    Blessed are the peacemakers Sonnaigh.
