Hearts biggest hurdle is the Celtic jersey

298

69 games undefeated in domestic football, setting a new Scottish record, but eventually, Things Fall Apart and Celtic lost 4-0 at Tynecastle.  It was Brendan Rodgers’ first defeat to a Scottish club, 18 months after taking over as manager.  Celtic were not even bad that day; when Hearts went three ahead shortly after halftime, the comeback was still a real possibility.  We didn’t make the most of our chances and everything they hit flew into the net.  There is always a danger, even against poor teams.

Whatever joy Hearts felt that day was sorely paid for since.  In the 21 subsequent games between the sides, Celtic won on 19 occasions.  The only two exceptions came when Celtic were in the middle of European qualifiers.  As a friend noted yesterday, Hearts players biggest hurdle is seeing the Celtic jersey.  They just cannot cope against imperious champions.

Curiously, elsewhere, people are looking at Celtic’s two visits to Edinburgh within the next eight days and seeing opportunity for themselves, hoping their Hour Come Round at Last.  You and I are well used to hearing at this time of year, the Second Coming is at hand.  Two wins for the good guys will fix that nonsense.

I was taken to games as a bhoy by Tony Mallon – a real charachter. He decided that hitchhiking to Milan was the way to go. Reports in the village had him in Haddington two days after he left from West Lothian. He made it alright and was known as Tony Milan’ for the rest of his life. ☘.

  2. I’ve been to Tynecastle many times and find the atmosphere very hostile. In 2011 I noticed that there were more red hand flags than ever at Ibrox. A clown came out the crowd and assaulted Neil Lennon. On the way to the game I met a programme seller who also worked at Celtic Park. He told us that the natives were restless and planned attacks on Celtic fans

The Celtic fans were also up for it and were emboldened by the hostility and the “dark” green

Brilliant memories. Mate and I drove over there in his knackered Citroen DS, and it was a knacker, but got us there.

Camped locally and got in with some Italian fans, great guys who promised their support on the night. Shit result, but some fantastic memories

The Celtic team responded to the loud support and poured waves of attack on the Hearts goal. Chris Commons was particularly animated and looked to score every time he had the ball. We wiped the floor with them and we won 3-0 going on 10

Not sure Boris got that so wrong. Eg Sweden hardly locked down at all and their deaths ultimately were much lower than ours per head of pop.

I am no apologist for him though. He is a disgrace and embarrassment to anyone who voted for him. He is everything wrong with politics. Even signal is better and that’s saying something.

I believe that Sweden had a higher rate of deaths per million of their population than either Norway or Finland, their more accurate comparator nations for size and geographical spread of population.

There was no easy route through Covid but Boris & Trump & Bolsanaro failed to reach minimal levels of political competence.

Nicola Sturgeon was much more competent in communication and control but we still had a terrible epidemic record by international standards.

Would that maybe be more to do with the general attitude of Scotland`s Drinking Society?

Fortunately, it wasn’t really up to Boris Johnson whether the UK went into mandatory lockdown or not, he like the huge majority of countries used medical advice.

  10. I hate to see games postponed, but having been out this morning and trying to drive to kirkcaldy and getting feart and turned back, then looking at the forecasts for next 2 days, i thiink all the east coast games are under threat,

GAMES CALLED OFF IN THE INTERESTS OF SAFETY

The Scottish Professional Football League has confirmed that several games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed following significant weather warnings for much of the country.

The SPFL has been in discussions with clubs, Police Scotland and relevant authorities on the developing situation and after the red weather warning issued for Tayside, Aberdeenshire and Angus earlier today, it has postponed matches in the interests of safety.

Calum Beattie, SPFL chief operating officer, said: “We have been in close contact with Police Scotland and our clubs and it’s clear that we continue to face very severe weather, particularly in the North East, in the coming days.

“We never postpone any matches lightly, but our discussions with the emergency services left us in no doubt that this was the correct decision.”

The matches postponed across the SPFL include:

    cinch Premiership

    Aberdeen v Dundee

    St Johnstone v Motherwell

    cinch Championship

    Arbroath v Raith Rovers

    cinch League 1

    Cove Rangers v Montrose

    cinch League 2

    Elgin City v Forfar Athletic

    Stenhousemuir v Peterhead

The SPFL will continue to monitor the situation involving

How did so many of us ever manage to evade the death spectre that haunted us like a demented Nosferatu everywhere we went.

Thankfully the ‘War in the Ukraine’ cleared up the pathogens associated with the flu and we are somewhat back to normal.

Well the new savior Clement is quite sensibly saying he is not Harry Potter and does not have a magic wand.

If he hasn’t won the league cup and closed the gap vs Celtic by the end of December it will be magic underpants he needs meethinks.

I doubt it was just drinkers that exacerbated Scotland’s figures- more likely that our underlying poor health made us more vulnerable. But we’re still learning from the info coming through.

    Bournsouprecipe

Yes- Boris (and Nicola) were advised by Medical experts and Civil Servants but they both made the decisions based on that advice and, as we are learning from the Covid enquiry, much of what they advised was ignored.

Rin Tin Tin – I have no inclination to get down in the mud with your internet rabbit hole but we did not include bananas amongst the actual fatalities which include, unless your a total recluse, people you and I know

Yeah, and we knew before the Covid enquiry he personally, flagrantly ignored the medical advice everyone else had to follow on mandatory terms.

Making a case for ‘no lock downs’ is perhaps based on other motives, not entirely loss of life, for the sick, elderly or vulnerable.

Fortunately we are spared too many Anti Lock downers or Anti Vaxxers on CQN. On the specific issue of Sweden verse its geographical neighbours, although most Swedes stayed home anyway, their loss of life per head of population was much higher.

  23. Big matches in Bundesliga 2 tomorrow.

St Pauli currently top at Paderborn while Hamburg who are 2 points behind are at home to Furth.

Would love to see St P get up and Hamburg lose out again this season…especially after their pre season arrogance completely dissing their local rivals.
