  1. Mullet – the easy bit is identifying players that are surplus to requirements. The hard bit is moving them on. Most are on good wages which they won’t get anywhere else in Scotland even if you offer them for buttons.

The only quick solution is to buy out their contracts or offer them for free and maybe compensate them for loss of earnings (whatever the difference is between new and old wage over the remaining part of contract).

That was the week that was it’s over let it go!!!!

I’m surprised they haven’t yet referred to it as a “spat between the Irishman and the Scotsman…”

No time for that wee klan hun.

That article read as though the author was talking of Celtic !

An interesting article which all those who want to make a meaningful comment on this matter should , perhaps, read before making said comment.

  5. We should put this Boyatta thing to bed ASAP.Get him to F—.Hanging over the club, giving our enemies ammo.

Watching the games in the EPL yesterday, and once again the defending abysmal. The whole weekends fixtures were rife with it.Sometimes I think we are far too harsh with our players. Some getting villified for”A bad pass”.

Have a closer look at whats going on elsewhere.

    Great news on Moussa.

Watched a bit of the Scum game yesterday.Rank rotten. That does not stop the hordes from thinking they are good, with backing from the Media.

    No worries from me.

Incidentally, my girlfriend and her twp pals were camping and climbing in the Kinlochewe area. She said the midges were the worst she had experienced.

” Sometimes I think we are far too harsh with our players.”

    Only sometimes? :-))

Well, I suppose for some of us it is very seldom and for others constantly so maybe that does equal `sometimes` :-)

I am surprised at you joining the band who claim `Sevco are rank rotten.`

For the sake of fairness, surely we should judge them on the their standing in the League in which they play.Using that criteria, they are easily one of the better sides.

Greek lawyers and theory go hand in hand, cant have one without the other.

given the intellectual capacity many on here have and their millions of reasons NOT to acquire better players, surely they could devote some thought as to how we actually could.

  9. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Miles behind…. Condolences to JMC on his losses RIP

Read too late for usual but will do honours on Wednesday

  10. Spartim

…or those who think it is so easy to acquire players good enough ( and who would come to us) to make a measurable difference could tell us who these players are.

    Cheerio for now.

  11. There is only one man to blame for the current weakened position that Celtic face with Boyata.

    Brendan Rodgers .

He refused to sanction the sale.

    Utterly shambolic decision.

Sadly,I totally agree. BR should know better-players in the last year of their contract can rarely be relied on. One serious injury and they’re facing penury.

Of course, maybe he thought that Boyata owed him some loyalty. And he would be right-he does.

See where thought gets you nowadays…

  13. TINYTIM

Could it be a case of, you get me JMcG and I’ll sanction the sale of DB, a clash of egos that looks like its cost us both of em. And we’re still paying one of them. A lose lose situation if ever there was one.

    These Are My Mountains

For fame and for fortune I wandered the earth

And now I’ve come back to the land of my birth

I’ve brought back my treasures but only to find

They’re less than the pleasures I first left behind

For these are my mountains and this is my glen

The braes of my childhood will know me again

No land’s ever claimed me tho’ far I did roam

For these are my mountains and I’m going home

The burn by the road sings at my going by

The whaup overhead wings with welcoming cry

The loch where the scart flies at last I can see

It’s here that my heart lies it’s here I’ll be free

Kind faces will meet me and welcome me in

And how they will greet me my ain kith and kin

The night round the ingle old sangs will be sung

At last I’ll be hearing my ain mother tongue.

  15. Hot Smoked – that is always the part where things get complicated. When you have money to spend but can’t find better than what you have got. No answers from me, sad to say

But that is what the scouting team are supposed to spend their time resolving.

If we can, for a moment, forget the English market and the Man City loan options, and look a little further afield, there must be pickings to be had. Poland, Croatia, Russia, Switzerland . . .

Italians have a proud history when it comes to defenders, Outwith their top 3-4 clubs, surely their must be experienced ball-playing CHs and right backs who are better than what we have that would be available for the 4-6 million price range that probably marks our upper limit. A guy age 27-30 who wants to win some titles and trophies before he retires rather than a project that wants to be in the EPL shop window.

Can Annoni no find us someone ? :)

  16. Hot Smoked.

Believe me,take away the hype from the Media, the bit of glitter from Gerrard, their idiot following who always think”This is it”,they are no better than Hibs,Hearts.Nowhere near us.Their next 3 games should tell us a lot.

I totally agree with you on the recruitment of good players.Either Congerton is useless,or there are no defenders out there suitable.

  17. Through A Green Glass Brightly on

And if we had sold Boyata in the midst of season defining CL qualifications without a replacement secured and, even if we had got a replacement he’d have had no time to bed in, so how would that have gone down?

When news broke of the offer for Boyata, did you read any comments, here or elsewhere, from Celtic fans saying we should ignore it?

Looked to me like a rare unanimity amongst us. Gimme the money-he’s not worth that, certainly not in the last year of his contract, and we can put it to good use.

    Heyho…

  20. A lot of rumours of high level meeting going on at Celtic Park today

We have on the one side. Brendan Rodgers trying to improve the team

And the other side we have peter of the heated driveway

News is DD is not happy with peter L

Could it be jelly and ice cream time

Alas due to PL failings it could be too late to revive our CL fortunes

    But this can’t go on

    Peter L time to leave

  21. Think its timevwe forgot about Boyatta, and Mc Ginn. Both had the opportunity to play for us this season, both rejected the chance.

Whilst I have no great love for PL,in fact,I have never been interested in any Celtic Board,I just find it amazing that a guy who listenedto Brendan about Boyatta, and refused around £ 10 million, for a guy in his last year, can be accused of not backing the manager. If you want to rail against him for Mc Ginn, then give credit for Boyatta.

Our scouting dept.,seem to be having a very hard time identifying defenders. As TET,has often told us,the wages, apart from the top 4 or 5 clubs in Spain are affordable.Eastern Europe seems to suddenly have a dearth of defenders.Lee Congerton, who brought us Commper.

  22. garygillespieshamstring on

I wondered howPhil would re-spin all his previous comments about things “no longer being heated driveway productions”. Now I know.

I always believed DD is the power, both then and now.

  23. We knew Boyata was going to WC… We must have known he wanted away. We should have had a replacement/improvement in January. Same with Right back. he doesn’t rate Gamboa or Ralston. And replacement for Roberts and Armstrong

  24. If things are not right at Celtic it seems fairly obvious to me that DD will be speaking with both PL and BR, you don’t buy a dug and then stand in the garden barking yourself!

He’ll want to know from everyone involved just WTF has happened to our successful team work that has delivered so much these last couple of seasons.

Not ideal preparation for tomorrow but let’s see what Brendan and his players can come up with…

I doubt Brendan will be at Celtic Park today, pretty sure the Bhoys flew out yesterday..

  25. 50 shades of green on

    High level meeting????.

Hasn’t a golf major just finished in America??

    Brendan is in Greece ,

Big Peter must be talking to himself again..

    ???

  26. we should always a have a list of players to go after to IMPROVE the team. Always try to improveon every player. Brown s legs could go… like happened to Hartley one game he just lost it!

  27. BTW Kouassi getting loads of abuse…he has hardly played a game in over a year… when Scott Brown missed 2 games BR excused him for a poor display by saying he lacked match sharpness!

  28. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    TURKEYBHOY

IMO,BR and PL will have sat down towards the end of last season and discussed budgets and targets.

Including a new DB contract. And John McGinn.

I think BR made a huge mistake in refusing to condone DB transfer. But PL could have pushed it if he wanted to.

He didn’t. Because he knows who will get the blame for a £10m black hole in our finances, and a player taking the money while downing tools.

  29. PL should have been sacked immediately after the 2007/8 season.

Inexplicable that the old dead club were allowed to win 3 titles in a row, during Mitty’s second spell at the dead club.

Kept the life support machine going.

The dead club probably should have won it season 2006/7 as well, when they reached the UEFA Cup final.

    Shocking levels of incompetence.
