Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

  1. Posted before what I witnessed from these motherwell fans at Bridgeton station.

Could never wish for them to ever win a game, same goes for the huns.

Whatever happens, happens, none of them get my vote.

  2. Just afore I retire to the cave for the night, a couple of observations.

All these folks who are saying they have got x amount for us to win all our games….

Most of our games we are well odds on, 1/3. 1/4. and less for home games, so lets take an average of 1/2, 20 games @ 1/2 gives you less than 1800/1. so I am yet to see a betting slip that says they have 2k +. not going to happen, the talk only happened after we skelped them on the 28th btw.

As for wee Pat Fenlon, a good Tim is Pat.

    I don’t like Derry City.

Main reason being that – years ago, when Cliftonville were at death’s door – they agreed to play the Reds in two friendly games,so the Reds could try and raise a few both. One game was played at Solitude, the other one was played at the Brandywell.

And do you know went they went and did? They sunk half the gate receipts from both matches.

Cliftonville supporters and Shamrock Rovers fans have a great connection.

    Anyway.

Antrimkev – I used to sit next to some fantastic Belfast lads in section 408 North Stand who wouldn’t have Martin O’Neill or Neil Lennon anywhere near Celtic because they played for Norn Iron. Clearly, this was before Martin’s appointment as Celtic boss.

Whit’s yer opinion on those two?

traynor admitted years ago that he (albeit being a airdreonians fan!!!) used to attend celtic matches not as a celtic fan, but as a football fan, as he liked the way we played.

However, this was before succulent lamb and the finest red seduced him…

  17. Just been having a look at the various rules etc regarding suspensions…

Keith Lasley, having sent off today for a second yellow, has now accrued 9 yellows, with two of them being ‘second yellow, red cards’.

For the dismissal today, he will incur an automatic one-match ban, meaning he will miss this weeks game against Hibs. It wasn’t serious foul play and therefore he will not receive a second automatic match ban however, Lasley will receive an additional ban because this is the second time he’d been sent off in the SPL this season.

But, and I quote directly from the rules: Any additional suspension shall become effective on the 14th day following the date of the match at which the sending-off offence occurred and shall apply to the player’s Recognised Team’s Competition/Competition Group.

Essentially, Lasley will be suspended for Wednesday’s game, play against us, then be suspended against Dunfermline.

I think that Lenny regrets ever turning out for that shower.Rumour has it that Lenny had issues with Paddy McCourt because he plays for them. Not sure if that’s true,or not.

Great lads from the Irish National Forresters club. My point was that if they played for Norn Iron, are they all Huns….or is it just if they played for Linfield?

anyway, slight change of tack here, but does anyone agree that ‘call the midwife’ is the best bit of sunday tv since inspector morse?

  22. There’s a lot around like Antrimkev. Can only see black and white. Or green and orange. Be interesting to see how things change long-term as one side decays and dies. Will the survivors develop a sense of perspective and balance or miss the confrontational approach to life? Mmmmmm.

no you cant choose where you are born – they both played for Norn iron, and both represented Norn Iron without a problem (except for Norn Iron fans)

Billy Fenlon came to Northern ireland and played for a club called Linfield – the bastion of bigotry (think rangers but even scummier, because it was also during the troubles) – he took the silver and fair play to him – im annoyed with people on here trying to tell me he was Celtic fan – he wasnt, he took the money (see on a bigger scale Burke or McCormack the rangers badge kisser or mccann on sky – all huns)

you see thats what annoys me

Billy wasnt a full time player (part-time league you see, your argument would stand up if he was say playing full time football) – he worked for a living – he took money on top of that

  27. To me the idea of a Tim playing for Linfield can only be seen as a massive victory and a step towards a better future. But, to some, he’s a hun. Get a life, get perspective.
