Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

  1. Good Morning Chaps, Thought Stokes and Hooper took it to another level yesterday. awesome. I also expect another week of smoke and mirrors from across the city, But i do wonder why the administrators who are supposed to be clearing up the mess are adding to it with creating more lies. I.e. signing freeze, och its alright u can sign the striker and the club will survive this! but we dont know the depths of debt or where the money is. this is just adding to everyones confusion and whyte knew exactly what he was doing when he handed them the leash. more liars.

  2. So then new story today is that all 3 players who signed new deal when whyte took over belong to one of his other companies and shouldn’t be playing in the spl as they are not registered to der hun. in short all the games they played in are now void. the spl and sfa have alot of questions to answer i think and if it does got to police then who knows were it will go…

I hope you’re right because SFA & SPL sustaining some collateral damage from the hun fallout would be a good thing. If not via this particular issue, then I hope via others that might yet emerge.

The more they can be placed on the backfoot, the better our chances of scuppering any sweeteners they try to pass to the huns, such as fast-track league re-entry to New Neandarthal FC.

An added bonus would be if Ogilvie gets tarnished or better still brought down by some revelation or other.

  4. Wild, wet and windy here in North Ayrshire (BBC talking about drought in England). Could be gloomy but not, I’m sure, for any Celtic supporter. And it will only get better.

Where’s DBBIA when you need his unique take on things? Lent is just around the corner, DBBIA.

  5. Re the strange behaviour of the administrators regarding Cousin.

There has been suggestions that Cousin was paid £50,000 up front and if the admin can’t get him registered then that is (more) money washed down the stank.

Some strong suggestions that HMRC will allow RFC to pay off tax debts over many years. Personally I think it’s all PR guff. But wouldn’t be the worst outcome from our point of view. There is already an admitted £10m a year shortfall, the current £9million in PAYE and VAT owed, the debenture scheme of about £7m, sizeable chunk of season tickets already sold off for next 4 years, inevitable downturn in fan numbers, no Euro money for years, asbestos in the bigot-dome etc. Put on top what, £5million a year to cover payments back for the big tax case? What’s not to like in all that.

But as I said, I suspect the taxman will see them liquidated.

  6. Celtinental, True mate, but i think that now there’s too many prying eyes now for any funny handshakes or deals. I fully expect the spl and sfa to hang them out to dry now, no loyalty(lol) amongst thieves and all that. i do have one final question where’s gordon smith in all this? all of a sudden he’s went very quiet.

  7. Right – day’s over, off to quaff some Korean beer & God knows what else as I haven’t had a pint or other beverage since “the Admin came to town”, nor ice-cream & jelly either!

A pint for each of Celtic & kilmarnock’s weekend goals will set the scene & we’ll take it from there….

Just want to state belatedly how impressed I was with yesterday’s performance. Watched it this morning after nightshift.

    Brilliant display,few faults if any.

Interested to see Anthony Stokes saying he would sign a new contract, never been happier, etc.

Penny finally dropped that he’ll NEVER be at a bigger club than the one he plays for?

  11. Morning,

Young Jag on Beattie today will be complaining about the media coverage of the hun, and how they have been exempt from proper scrutiny. Out of the mouths of babes…

As a shareholder in JJB Sports of somewhat limited scale, it pleases Amadeus to think of the XXL hun buying up the merchandise before it’s too late! I will spend the dividend on all things Celtic.

  12. Morning all from Germany, freezing but sunny. I see the BBC website has at least updated the SPL top scorer chart.

  13. I posted this last night from KDS.

“I heard earlier tonight that the five-year contracts signed by the likes of Whittaker and McGregor are with the parent company, Rangers FC Group (ex-Wavetower) not RFC PLC.

If true, that would break SPL rules on third-party ownership.

And potentially mean that Rangers would lose every point they’ve won this season with “unregistered” players in their team. Like . . . every one of them.”

Anybody heard anything about this? If this is true I will need to wear a corset to try and stop my sides from splitting with laughter.

  14. Attended the match yesterday in the company of Mrs LB.

We were in the East stand (Hibs end). Mrs LB was reasonably up beat at the start of the match and she was belting out Sunshine on Leith as the teams took to the field.

I took great joy in just watching the Celtic end bouncing around and the colours were amazing.

I had the pleasure of sitting in front of an absolute eejit who didn’t know his history or his manners. I had to speak to him twice about his language which was shocking his own girlfriend was telling him to shut up. He was shouting that if it wasn’t for the Hibee’s we would be H*ns. Eventually just before half time I had lost the rag with this clown but the guy next to me beat me to it. He told him in no uncertain terms to shut his mouth or he would be putting his fist down it. The guy dissapeared at half time. Had a good chat with the guy next to me at half time and he assured me that everyone around us knew I was a Tim. I wasn’t concerned. He wished us well and was delighted I had the balls to sit in their end but also that it was great that I had brought my wife along to see her team and he hoped to see us again. The way football fans should be. I didn’t even jump at any of the goals but I guess when your team has so few fans attending they all know each other.

Really enjoyed the Celtic performance and the fans were outstanding. It was a joy to behold and by the 2nd half the Hibs guys were just saying how amazing it was and stopped watching the game. Mrs LB had had enough by 4-0 and we joined the Hibee’s streaming out. They were in decent spirits and we had a good laugh walking along the road. What I would say is they are no friend of Celtic but they are very much like our support in some ways. They have their eejits but then so do all fans. Thankfully we made it to the pub to see the 5th goal and by now Mrs LB was not a happy bunny. Good day out and it was nice to take the missus who is a massive fan of football and Hibs and although I much prefer being in our end it was good to just watch the game rather than on the TV.

Hope all the Bhoys enjoyed their day out in Edinburgh. I haven’t stayed through here long but it appears to be a happy hunting ground for us these days. I think I will leave Mrs LB in the house next time and join the Bhoys in the away end but it was an interesting day among the Hibee’s.

The Huns could be in more bother because of alleged(got to laugh) sectarian singing at Mordor on Sat,,,,,but only if the match delegate reports it,,,,which means they will get away with it again!!!

  17. Alan Patullo’s article in the Hootsmon is a disgrace.

Celtic should have more “dignity” (sic) than “sanctimony”. He criticises Lawwell for saying that Celtic can prosper on their own after Salmond said we couldn’t.

Doesn’t this nyaff know that Celtic shares are not suspended on the Stock market and a Chief Executive has responsibility to look after the interest of shareholders. Public utterances (that word is getting alot of airing) which suggest a company’s fortune is dependent on another company that is going belly up is extremely damaging to the interest of the former company. A Chief Executive that did not respond in that manner would be guilty of negligence.

Rangers have cheated the taxpayer and Scottish Football. They were once a disgrace for the bigotted signing policy they are now a complete disgrace for financial doping. Hell mend them.

    Guys, some help please.

For some reason my iphone has switched to French when I’m texting. Bottom of the screen says ‘espace’ instead of ‘space’ and ‘retour’ instead of ‘back.’ I’ve went to ‘settings’ and the english box is ticked, but its still trying to write in French. How do I get it back to english?

SSN report that there will only be an investigation into their Saturday songbook if it is reported by the match delegate.

    What a cop-out!

    It’s been reported EVERWHERE,ffs.

Interesting to see if the matchday commander reports it to his superiors.

And if not,I’d like to know why none of those superiors ask why not…..

  21. optimistic little soldier on

I remember a while back that the Ibrox Youths weren’t owned by Rangers as such and that when they were promoted to the first team squad they were effectively ‘bought’.

If the first teamers, with the exception of the bumper-contract three (McGreggor, Davis, Whittaker), are made redundant, how will Rangers then be able to ‘buy’ the youths to fill up the holes in the squad when they’re in administration?

If this purchase agreement is still in operation I suppose it protects the youth players from the cut.

  22. In other news…….

A mate of mine was talking to elbow’s brother at the weekend. Apparently elbow’s and McMoist don’t see eye to eye and it looks like he will be one of the first to be cut.

SPL sides have contacted a few Rangers players already to sound out if they would be willing to move to them if they become free agents.

Anybody any idea when the cull will be? Looks like Hearts, Motherwell and Aberdeen have their eye on a few Rangers players.

Andrew Smith in the Scotsman on Sunday said about Saturday’s game at Ibrokes that “It didn’t last, though. Soon, they spat out “Fenian b******s” in their “Super Rangers” ditty, following that up with the “Billy Boys”, with their “up to our knees in Fenian blood” phrase that is proscribed in the SPL’s acceptable conduct charter and landed them in bother with UEFA. The fact is that a section of the Rangers support crave their club’s survival so they have an outlet for their bile and are as unpalatable as their current, gone-to-ground owner.”

I have contacted my MSP, the First Minister, the Justice Secretary, Strathclyde Police and the SFA about this, because you know, they made such a big deal about offensive behaviour at football, and seeing as this is “offensive behaviour”, what are they going to do about it.

I suggest you all do likewise.

I didn’t get the logic of these new bumper contracts for Whittaker etc when they were announced.

Whyte was hoping to sell the players and the proceeds would go to him rather than the club ?
