Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

He was one of the highest paid footballers in Irish League history.Him and Gorman were on about a grand a week at the time.

Not sure if he needed to work to subsidise his income.

What does it matter anyway? If he supports Celtic,he supports Celtic.Nobody can change that.

    It’s no big deal.

    Fair enough.

I left scotland many years ago because of the crap my family were enduring due to my allegiences to Celtic, I happened to live in a pocket of hunnery, I actually made a habit of living in pockets of hunnery, but that’s another story.

Never lived in your part of the world, I do understand what you have lived through btw, and I do understand what you have to endure on a daily basis.

I took money from Rangers FC [in admistration] years ago, I made belts for them, I stamped what ever they wanted on them for money, does that make me a hun as well ?

Sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture, they will be gone soon enough, it’s taken long enough, but they will be gone.

  10. I know you are Antrimkev and I do not believe you could possibly have seen it a positive (in that it continued to challenge the historic ibrox non-Tim policy). All you could see was betrayal, I expect.

  14. Monday’s Express…… http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/303248/MPs-want-to-quiz-Rangers-tycoons

BELEAGUERED Rangers owner Craig Whyte and his predecessor Sir David Murray could be grilled by a powerful group of MPs over their management of the crisis-hit club.

The pair may be hauled before Westminster’s Treasury Select Committee to explain why the Old Firm giant was forced into administration over unpaid tax bills last week.

Several MPs have demanded that 40-year-old venture capitalist Mr Whyte face tough questions from the committee as part of a wider inquiry into football finances.

It could also ask steel magnate Sir David, who sold the club to Mr Whyte for £1 last year, to discuss his 23 years at the helm.

Reports yesterday claimed Mr Whyte had circumvented a ban on holding company directorship by setting up a parent company which now owns the club in an overseas tax haven.

He was disqualified from holding such a post for seven years from 2000 but was able to legally establish Liberty Capital Limited in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) because it is outside UK jurisdiction.

Mr Whyte already faces investigations by Strathclyde Police and the SFA into his takeover of the club.

But Brian Donohoe, MP for Central Ayrshire and secretary of the Westminster Rangers Supporters Club, now wants MPs to question the businessman.

Mr Donohoe said: “There has to be some form of parliamentary inquiry into football finances. A number of clubs appear to have used tax avoidance devices. In the case of Rangers there’s a tremendous amount that went on before Craig Whyte bought the club that nobody knows about.

“Any inquiry needs to look into both Sir David Murray and Craig Whyte’s running of it.”

Meanwhile Mr Whyte’s own father-in-law has claimed the troubled Rangers owner “doesn’t know the meaning of the word honesty”.

Hugh Martin, father of Mr Whyte’s estranged wife Kim, claimed he had refused to pay maintenance since the couple, who have three children, split up in 2010.

Retired steelworks boss Hugh, 71, of Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, said: “I’m not a Rangers fan and have no interest in football. But I can fully understand why the supporters want answers because the cash figures make no sense. I’m afraid that Craig doesn’t seem to know the meaning of the word honesty.”

Kim, 42, lives near her estranged husband’s home, Castle Grant in Grantown-on-Spey, Morayshire. Their lawyers were set to argue their case at the Court of Session in Edinburgh but it was settled with minutes to spare.

Mr Martin said: “I don’t know how he earned money. He was always very guarded and secretive.”

Rangers went into administration last Tuesday after failing to pay £9million in tax.

They also await a tax tribunal verdict, which could cost £75million.

Anxieties have also been raised following the revelation that £24million of cash advanced against four years of season ticket sales was not paid directly to Rangers.

It is understood HMRC is working with administrators on a deal which would keep Rangers afloat.

The revelations over Mr Whyte’s use of a BVI-registered company to buy Rangers has also raised questions.

Richard Murphy, of the Tax Justice Network, said: “If you don’t want tax or regulation and you don’t want the world to know about your company, go to the BVI.”

A spokesman for Mr Whyte denied there had been any wrongdoing.

  15. The ibrox mob refused until forced to sign catholics. When eventually they do, some see it as a victory for fairness and a small step towards challenging bigotry. Others could only see betrayal. We complained for decades about the bigotry of their signing policy but still complained when it was overturned! So how are we to progress without labelling people as traytors??

  16. lads, i can see were both sides are coming from but in a week were the

huns have went into admin and went 17 points behind our beloves celtic.

Got shown to the world that they are the cheating bigotted bassa’s we all knew

they were,,can we not all enjoy the party.

I see the argentinian gary hopper scored a couple of goals tonight for barca.

If we signed him? who would you drop out of lenny’s team for him??!!

  17. Just noticed this on KDS.

“I heard earlier tonight that the five-year contracts signed by the likes of Whittaker and McGregor are with the parent company, Rangers FC Group (ex-Wavetower) not RFC PLC.

If true, that would break SPL rules on third-party ownership.

And potentially mean that Rangers would lose every point they’ve won this season with “unregistered” players in their team. Like . . . every one of them.”

    Is this right?

    I hope so!

  18. Glendalystonsils likes a mr whippy with his lime green jelly on

If M/well win their game in hand they’ll only be 3 points behind their big cousins with every chance of overhauling them. What a dilemma for wee ginger mullet!

I can see him pacing up and down right now muttering “what do ah do? What do ah do?”

Ah know! Ah’ll get the boys to kick 10 bells out uv Celtic and……er….and….er
