I`m certainly not going to conform for the sake of it.

Thank you for listing the back year’s figures as last year’s figures only included 3 of the 18 Salzburg players who turned up and gave transfer fees for only 2 of them.

The figures for 17/18 you give- identify 4 more (Pongracic-unused sub £1m, Ramalho-starter 800k, Wolf- a starter but no transfer fee given, & Daka- unused sub- no value given and apparently he was signed from Celtic – who knew?)

The figures for 16/17 identify 3 more (Dabbur at £6m, Gulbrandsen at 800k and Samassekou- value not given)

The 15/16 figures give us 3 more (Stankovic- sub goalie £1.25m, Lainer – 200k, Prevljak- sub used late on- free from Leipzig)

    14/15 identifies 1 player – Minamino- 800k)

Walke- starting keeper was a free transfer back in 2010/11

Captain Ulmer came in 2008/9 for 600k

Junuzovic came on a free last year from Werder Bremen

And Leitgeb- a used sub- I cannot find at all.

They seem to use the African market well and trade a lot with Liefering FC, a 2nd tier Austrian outfit who, surprise surprise, are also owned by Red Bull. They also pick up a lot from the German market, especially with RB Leipzig, another Red Bull club.

In buying low and selling high they are very much imitating the pattern variously described and derided as Moneyballs or Peter Lawwell’s Heated Driveway Fund Project. That is not what makes them different from us. Nor is picking up options from a nearby big league (They use Germany- we use England).

As I maintain my doubts on the accuracy of Transfermarkt’s lists and info (why do they “know” some transfer fees and not “know” others), I think we have to seek other reasons for Salzburg’s higher level of playing performance.

But your list did serve a purpose in deepening my suspicion of cross trading between Red Bull clubs- must be a great avenue for money laundering which in turn , allows for a lot of “off the book” remuneration.

    Off to my bed now

  8. Brendan was all over the papers this morning saying how leggy the players were on Thursday night and tiredness is affecting them because of the number of games we are playing , fair comment. I have read a lot over the years from ex pros saying that if a manager gives his team an excuse for not playing well before a game that a lot of players will accept that and not give 100% in the next game, something like that happened today IMOP. But I’m not concerned we will come back stronger and better as Brendan will sort it all out and keep learning and improving our team. the one good thing about today was the performance of wee Mikey, he is going to be a star.

Well that was a lot of shoite yesterday.

BR has a lot to answer for in making changes, unless he was forced through injury.

Even then after 20mins we could all see 3 at the back was not working, he should have went to a back 4. Hibs were attacking the wide areas with ease.

We better up our game and sharpish. We need recruits in and to freshen up the team. There is still a long way to go in the league right enough. But my issue is that January is never a great time to strengthen a squad it’s the summer and this summers transfer window fiasco is coming back to bite us on the erse big time.

Ryan Christie could return for Celtic before the end of the month, says manager Brendan Rodgers.

The midfielder was carried off on a stretcher during the club’s defeat by Salzburg on Thursday after rushing to block a shot by Takumi Minamino.

Scotland cap Christie, 23, has scored seven goals in 23 appearances so far this season.

“It’s not as bad as what we first thought,” Rodgers told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound.

“When he had the scan after the game, we had good news on that.

“He’s now full weight bearing. He’s able to get his foot on the floor so you never know. You never know for midweek or next weekend.

“It was a sore one. At the time, he had to come off because he couldn’t put his weight on it.”

  13. Macjay that is good news for the bhoy and the Team.

3 away wins in 9 matches, not title winning form. Brendan is lucky he has a lot of credit built up.

With Ibrox and Pittodrie on the horizon you wouldn’t fancy going a goal behind and have to chase the game at either of those venues in our current state.

We’d better hope the above stat looks a lot more healthy come May.

Still a lot of our support far too blase about it, believing it’ll sort itself out. We’re nearly halfway through the league – even in Scotland we can’t expect to flick a switch for the form to come good and us romp the league.

The time to act is now and we can start by selecting our best available team every week and buying quality in the January window.

The folly of ‘resting’ players at the likes of Fir Park only to get played off the park by Sallzburg and lose to Hibs should be noted.

  17. Hibs have announced that they are to sue Celtic over breach of copyright.

They have stated that as Celtic have now”Hibsed it” in six away matches they can no longer stand by and watch their trademark be abused.

  20. Poor poor performance again yesterday . Unfortunately we have to many players who are not of the quality we need . We also have players continually getting picked who are not up to the job .

We can’t play . Hibs, Aberdeen and the scousers mob , with men short . We need everyone to be up for the task in front of us . Any team who gets stuck into us ,gives us problems . Yes we have tanner baw players , much needed qualities . But we also need tough ,gutsy players ,which we don’t have . I don’t know what will happen , money must be spent , and spent well on quality . And going by past transfer windows I’m not too confident of that happening . I don’t think we will see

Boyata again in the hoops sorry to say , not too sure about our other 3 centre half’s maybe cash needed spent there too . . Mikel sadly for me has had one injury to many , but a great servant to the club . Broonie too getting on , what a miss he will be to us . Up front we have problems eddy can’t do it all on his own , Dembelle also a huge miss , and of course the griff at the moment , hopefully we will see him again soon . Fresh faces on the wing are also needed . James Forrest excluded , but midfield definitely needs toughened up , to many vic Davidson’s in there , (great talent but no guts ) loads of dead wood also to shift on of course . We will soon see if our money men want that 8 in a row , as at the moment 10 is a long way off . Just my opinion though

  21. Today’s another day……….but we should be aware that we are not as strong or as good in depth or quality terms that we have been before. The product on the pitch needs support. In the meantime, songs about 10 might be better off shelved for a wee bit.

I never like us when we are boasting inappropriately anyway.

    Delighted about Ryan.

    A real find this season.

    No info. on the others.

    Perspective.

Hated watching the Hibs game , but it hasn`t dented my confidence that we`ll win the league.

  25. JimTim – good points, most of us can see the same problems.

A question for anyone, does BR attend daily training sessions? I’d love to know what Sinclair does at Lennoxtown that gets him into the team every week. If we are lucky he shows us a glimpse of his talent one game in three. Hard to imagine that the younger, hungrier players like MJ do not show up better at training.

Does anyone on here follow the reserves? Have we really no centre forward that can be promoted, at least to the bench, for the next few weeks? A squad of 40 players or so and it looks like only about seven of them are genuinely first team contenders for next season. On the assumption that Benkovic and Boyata are gone, and hopefully Gordon and Lustig too, we have only KT as a guaranteed starter. Ajer’s development has stalled, too slow and too error prone to be at the heart of the defence. Shows no signs of learning. Simunovic flatters to deceive when played alongside Boyata or Benkovic. Bambi without them.

Ntcham is a luxury player we can’t afford. Far too inconsistent. Great one week, awful the next.

Brown’s time is drawing to a close and cannot be considered a first team regular for next season. He should have got a straight yesterday. He hasn’t done that kind of tackling for a while, normally he’s been on the receiving end of it so hopefully it was a one-off. Do that at Ibrox and for sure it will be a red.

Rogic, McGregor, Christie, Forrest are the core of the midfield based on merit though Rogic looks most vulnerable to drops in form, especially when playing against better teams – passenger on Thursday. Edouard is only a kid and needs more time and much better support. Can’t see him going anywhere for a couple of years.

A lot of work to do yet only a week ago we all saw the best football of the season so far so all is not lost. 2-3 quality players should be enough to get us over the line.
