  1. Not sure I agree with some of the recent happy flappy comments being made about our performance yesterday.

We are well off “Peak CFC” and yesterday proved it.

Injuries have been / are hurting us.

A poor summer transfer window is hurting us.

Poor MF unit performances are hurting us — see yesterday for proof.

    Lots to to.

    Long way to go.

We were in a good position at HT because of their GK.

He was having a mare and it made us look good.

If it had wnt the other way then it was game on for the second half.

You only have to imagine some of the media comments to understand where we would have been.

MD coming on won the game for us.

He is still very rusty but he still has the bit of class we have been missing.

Corkcelt, your kind words have prompted me to recount this little tale from earlier in the season which sums up what it means to be Celts. After the game. I headed down to the vigil Mass in St. Mary’s after which I caught a bus heading in to town. On board were quite a few supporters but importantly, an Asian family, a little lad of about six and his sister who looked about ten, plus their mum and dad.

A group of fans were getting off at Glasgow Cross and one removed his. scarf turned to the little fellow, rapped the scarf around the little chap’s neck and said, “There you go wee man. ”

The lad’s face lit up and, he turned to his mum and said, “Pakistan colours.” The Celt smiled at him and said, “Celtic colours.”

Obviously concerned that the big sister was missing out, a second supporter reached in to his pocket and handed her his programme.

The parents smiled and smiled and and kept repeating their thanks.

The family got off at St Enoch’s and it was lovely to see the little fellow marching along the pavement, proudly wearing his new scarf [which was nearly down to his ankles] with a huge smile on his face.

This is what it means to be Celtic.

To my unreliable memory, we didn’t reach Peak CFC last season until we were out of Europe.

I’m a life-long Celtic fan now retired to The Philippines. I’m currently on holiday staying with my eldest daughter who has just delivered my second granddaughter.

My youngest daughter’s birthday is next Wednesday and she would love to go to Pittodrie to watch the Bhoys. So too my Filipina wife!

It’s a long-shot, but does anyone have spares? 3 would be fantastic, 2 just great!

We are staying in Insch, so can meet up anywhere near Aberdeen.

    Hail Hail!

  5. Well done Brendan and the bhoys, we have made it to another final…

Glad to see Dembele back to a bit of form, hope we can push on from here.

Sad to see the Referees up to their old tricks again, we are spared much of this now, due to the fact that we are no competition for Sevco Rangers. St Johnstone and the like getting on the “wrong” side of the decisions.

Of course yesterday was slightly different, if Sevco Rangers beat Motherwell today, they’ll be in the SLC Final. It would have been preferable if they had met Hibs in the Final.

We know that the SFA feel Scotland needs a strong Rangers, so it’s no surprise to see their officials trying there best to aid them on to their way to a first Major Trophy.

Interesting to see how they do against Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Good debate on CQN this week in the aftermath of the Munchen game re: tactics/personnel. Some old posters coming on and making excellent contributions.

    Hail Hail

  6. Brendan Rodgers,will eventually,leave Celtic,I predict there will be a least,3 Manager’s position, available,in The E P L, Arsenal, Leicester,West Ham,and possibly,Man It’d,were I think Mourino,could be on the move next season,and in all honesty, Brendan Rodgers,name will be attracted to 2 of them.

  7. Afternoon all

    Silver City

I think we produced great performances throughout the campaign with several peaks such as the first 5-1 game with ‘Rangers’, a 5-0 league cup masterclass v Motherwell, a 6-1 drubbing of Killie and the home game with Man City being before we went out of Europe though we were probably more consistently excellent after the winter break as you recall.

As to the discussion about the reaction to recent games I do not think there is anything ‘spoilt’ about thinking our play has been a notch or two below where we would wish it to be. Nor do I think it is being overly negative to express concerns about several players’ form for the season to date-Dedryk B and Callum McG aside it is hard to see anyone who is playing much better than 7 or 8 months ago though some like Broony, Mikael L, James F, Kieran T and Scott S all look pretty good to me and only a notch or two below last season.

Celtic fans of my ken have often had a streak of ‘we’re doomed’ about us -as a child I noticed that my mum would listen to a match with her head in her hands if the other team got a corner even if we were 3 up and it was after twenty five to five- and nowadays seems no different in that vaguely insane outlook. When our domestic run ends it will be sackcloth and ashes for days the 60 undefeated games ( and counting) dismissed as a blip by many.

Yesterday was a better result than performance and there is nothing bad in saying so It would all be much worse had it been the other way round.

Couldn’t agree more. Rodgers simply must change things, at time the guy seems clueless. I honestly don’t know where this run is taking the club.

It won’t be long til the vultures capture Dembele, then were would we have been yesterday.

I’m not panicking but the tactical failures of last Wednesday should give us concern for this Wednesday too. There’s some massive parallels. Not least the colours of our opponents and there will be floodlights.

  9. I watched yesterdays game again this morning and made some observations;

for a team just back from Germany and likely with less energy than a fresh Hibs side, we dominated throughout. In the second half alone we created at least 4 good chances in addition to the goals we scored.

In comparison both Hibs goals came from refereeing decisions going against us (their second started with a foul not given on wee Jamsie).

The officials did what Scottish officials are expected to do in semi finals involving us- to give any possible penalty decisions in favour of the team that isn’t Celtic.

We didnt play that well but still did more than enough against one of the top 4 teams in Scotland.

Broonie made us tick, Moussa made us more potent, CG isnt comfortable with the ball at his feet.

  10. Jimbob

My only worry is the Arsenal job, I think that would actually be a big fit for them both.

On another point I am a bit disappointed that Brendan is persevering with Paddy, he has not reached the heights of the second half of last season. Maybe he needs to play James to give him a wee kick.

Also rumoured his deal is he plays champions league! Hope that’s not true.

Anyway delighted with the result yesterday and not over concerned by the performance given the 48 hour turnaround

  11. Fans have a right to air an opinion. We have set the standards and that is how we will be judged. Rightly or wrongly, the majority of us don’t take off field circumstances into consideration when we are summing up the game.

Personally i didn’t think we collectively played that well and that level of performance will not be good enough for our European campaign.

I don’t know if we could have sold all the empty seats as there are many of us who wouldn’t go to Hampdump if we got the tickets for nothing.

As for commentators : Can’t understand getting “ wound up” by what they say. They deliberately talk rubbish to stimulate debate. Just turn the volume down or better still watch in the pub where you cannot hear them.

    HH.

Ps : Think the Everton job will also be up for grabs soon.

  12. Good afternoon, friends.

There’s a team whose ground is less than 10 miles from my house who, since 19 September, have played 8 games, winning 6, drawing 1 and losing just 1 to Aberdeen. They have score 16 goals and conceded 5. And yet they are 5/1 to win today? I did expect them to be the larger priced team today but 5/1 seems overly generous. Pity I currently only have £3 left in my online account. Decisions, decisions…

If they do win, I wonder if they will only ask for 10,000 tickets for the final.

  13. JIMBO67

I thought yesterdays game was typical semi final fare. Hibs offered nothing in the first half and our pressure let to two goals which on the balance of play we deserved. They came out fired up for the second half but to no avail till the officials stepped in and hand them a lifeline. At three two tho’ there was some little consternation in the Starry Abode but Moussa and Celtic’s class soon put that to rest!

Job done which at the end of the day is all you want in a semi final.

We had some very decent individual performances off the back of a tough midweek test and I thin it’s only natural that a few players were under par, that being said Brendan’s Celtic team have a great record after Euro games.

I hope that sections of our support are not in danger of starting to take this team for granted, this team and all of it’s players work very hard to see p us where we find ourselves at the moment.

&0 games unbeaten Timmy, not to be sniffed at.

  14. BIG JIMMY on22ND OCTOBER 2017 8:48 AM

Very happy with The Bhoys yesterday but deary me, on speaking to one or two fans after the game in the pub, I was disappointed to hear some who were adamant that Celtic were crap ?

It never ceases to amaze me how some so called Celtic fans refuse or don’t have the brains to look at the WHOLE picture ?

Yes, I thought 2 or 3 of our Bhoys were a bit quiet and didn’t maybe do too much, but my God I had remind these so called Celtic fans that we have had just over 2 days to recover from Munich, and not only are we up against a half decent Hibs team, but we are ALSO up against cheating corrupt officials.

These so called Celtic fans were nodding their heads in agreement with me, but still continued to say how crap we were…unbelievable !

I didn’t fall out with anyone, I just said ” Aye okay…see you later”, and walked away back to my pint.

These so called Celtic fans were not wee boys, they were grown men, but they really need a reality check.

EVERY Celtic fan should enjoy what we have at this moment, because one day our unbeaten run WILL come to an end, (probably down to corrupt cheating officials I suspect), and then these ” Celtic fans” will no doubt have something to moan about /

    I truly despair sometimes.

    God Bless the Auld ‘Tic.

    ========

Sometimes I share your despair but with advancing years I take comfort in this analogy that I’ve just made up, because I can.

We are all on the cliff face that is Life. The aim is to reach the top and the hazards are many, but so too are the views that no two persons can see the same until they reach where another has been.

If we stop facing the cliff, overcome our fears of falling or looking around, then our perspective changes.

The higher we climb the greater the perspective if we but look around.

The more we see, the more we take into account as we journey upwards.

Age however is not the measure of how high we have climbed as human beings. The measure is the increasing willingness to stop on the climb, overcome our fears, look around and appreciate the wonder and joy at all there is, not criticise what isn’t.

If we just keep our faces to the cliff we think that is all there is, but Life provides endless opportunities for everyone to stop and take in the whole vista.

Is there a cave somewhere on this cliff face, with people in it, shackled and facing the rear wall, watching shadows cast by a fire?

  16. When the 60 game run , or whatever number it will be, ends we should celebrate what we had.

Take a breath and set about another unbeaten run.

I do not doubt the stage is set for a feast of football honest mistakes in the next few weeks, I wonder how they will be “ balanced out”?

  17. Starry Plough

Yes the result is the thing and I was hardly unhappy at the end – too many rotten memories of lost semi finals going back 40 years not to be pleased we won. It needed an odd decision to get Hibs in the game and as my nephew observed as we walked into town post match we produced our best level of performance on the day after it went to 3-2.

Not sure where this season is headed but even coming from a family of pessimists I doubt I will be too unhappy when it is over though I think there are some bumpy moments ahead.

    Jimbo67

  18. Can’t see Motherwell getting through today with the mibbery and all. The powers that be will be desperate for Sevco to reach the final. With Pedro you get the feeling the next disaster is just around the corner but i don’t think it will be today.

  19. Mad Mitch,

If you are not trolling and have a genuine interest in discussing the football performance.. Have you given any consideration to the fact that these players arrived back in Scotland at 4am Thursday morning, &

that most of them were involved in a fairly torrid European game on Wed night.

They were also facing a rested highly motivated & pretty decent Hibs team.

Yes I accept the Keeper wasn’t great at the first and made a howler for the 2nd but he did make a few decent saves in the second half to keep the score down & whether you rate it a miss or a save Dembele should have scored when one & one.

When you make a further allowance for the ‘goal’ the Ref gifted them, I think it is fair to say, we deservedly won the game.

Even had we lost, this team had previously gone 59 domestic games unbeaten, they have this year Qualified for Group Stages Champions League, they have beaten Anderlecht 3 nil away from Home & thus have a great chance of having European Football post Christmas.

Would you not agree that someone somewhere is doing something right & deserves a bit of praise.

  20. Thoughts on the DB tackle — aka the “penalty”.

Watching it on TV with DB running away from the camera towards the attacking player.

In real time I thought it was a penalty — not much evidence of a tackle more a barge into the player with the ball spilling away towards the touchline.

Therefore I was surprised that it was not given right away.

I was surprised the length of time the MIB took to make the decision.

However others said fair tackle from the off.

Replays from other lower / ground level angles pointed towards a good tackle.

One was 100% good tackle and picked up that the attacking player had fouled DB.

Another in real time — let’s call it the CG angle from behind the goals — was more circumspect as it placed the ball very close to the attacking player and the angle of DB’s foot was not clearly seen to touch the ball first but the angle of the ball afterwards was a good pointer that he had.

    Very strange situation to me.

Why the long delay by the MIB?

Was he looking for support from the linesman?

Was he waiting for advice from the 4th official via the BT pictures / replay?

No matter the detail the SPL MIB Ludge has made themselves look foolish over it.

  21. Auldheid, and Big Jimmy, When Supporters, say about the team playing crap,I can agree at some point, Gordon to Boyota,to Tierney, back to Gordon,so on and so on, that does my head in, eventually, leading to mistakes,at the back, and that at times ,is worry for a lot of fans.and it’s not once or time’s ,this happens, and it needs to be sorted out,

  22. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    Parkheadcumsalford.

They are criticising Brendan because the MSM uniformly adopted that mantra.

We have fools in the support, enough of them, who despite the historic evidence of the Laptop Loyals biaise still imbibe their hemlock.
