Well done to Hibernian fans for turning up in sufficient numbers to increase turnover to £8.0m from £6.9m the previous season, allowing the club to turn a profit in Armageddon season, despite some mediocre performances on the field. The challenge for chairman Rod Petrie is to ensure the elevated income level results in the club outperforming village clubs, who survive on a fraction of Hibs income.
Hibernian should tower over St Johnstone, Inverness, Ross County and Motherwell in the race for second place.
Debt remains high at £5.5m (if Celtic’s debt was a similar proportion to turnover it would be circa £40m) but with the wages to turnover ratio at 49% there is scope to both bring debt down and get better value for money on the field.
30 friends, family and supporters of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust will be leaving Celtic Park on tomorrow afternoon heading to Dingwall where they will start a 400 mile cycle round every Scottish Premiership ground returning to Celtic Park on Sunday 15th September at 3:30pm. Their goal is to raise £100k for Melanoma Action and Support Scotland (MasScot) who are looking to introduce Scotland’s first ever mobile skin cancer screening unit which is bound to save lives given the success rates when diagnosing melanoma in early stages.
You can follow the team @TommyBurnsSCT and on Facebook this week as they begin this amazing fundraising event. Please support the team if you can at MyDonate. Packie Bonner and Frank McGarvey are signed up and Bertie Auld is getting involved in the final day.
You can participate in the last hour of the cycle, from St Mirren to Celtic Park, leaving around 2:30 on the Sunday, by emailing scottmcgarvey@gmail.com. Scott will get you organised and help with a fundraising page.
Our thoughts to Jock Stein’s surviving family today, 28 years after his death, as another former Celtic manager prepares Scotland for a World Cup qualifier. Those old enough to remember his time have a gift which the young will never know.

I think this whole scenario re the deid mob needs to be opened up to proper debate, and final analysis.
We cannot continue in a situation where members of the press are petrified to tell the truth for fear of violent retribution or losing their job.
Equally, members of the public are condemned and arrested for any display be it t-shirts or banners on the same subject.
And that’s if they don’t get the crap beat outa them first.
Would this level of intimidation and collusion be permitted anywhere else? I doubt it.
Would the chairman of a liquidated company be allowed back to the Phoenix company in any other circumstances? Course not.
We are all equal before the law.
Aye,right.
YOUR COMPLAINT:
I sent this complaint when they edited the podcast. What a bunch of craven cowards the bbc are their lack of support has now led to a man feeling he has to give up his livelihood.
I am appalled that comments from your journalist Jim Spence have been removed from a podcast he done in which he stated rangers fc died which is completely true they were liquidated in 2012.Instead of issuing an apology to rangers fans you should be standing 100% behind Jim Spence and state the Fact rangers did indeed die when they were liquidated. It is a disgrace the way Jim Spence has been treated up here for telling the truth shame on you BBC for allowing this by not having the decency to support your employee
http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complain-online
If Jim Spence is in the middle of an employment process, it would be wholly inappropriate for any member of staff at BBC to make any public comment on the matter, as any such comment might very well compromise the fairness of the process.
However, there are plenty folk in high profile media roles with other outlets who are not constrained. Graham Spiers wasn’t slow to make his views known today, for example.
The issue is inextricably bound in the desperate crush to find a place for Sevco’s Rangers in the Scottish game, a place where the old crap can be maintained and the new crap can be sustained.
When the unincorporated members club founded in 1872 that was Rangers FC was incorporated as The Rangers Football Club Ltd in 1899, the ‘club’ became the ‘company’. That was the express intention of the original subscribers – the ‘founding fathers’ – when they declared as follows in the Memorandum of Association of the new company (1899):
“The words “Club” and “Company” and also the words “Member” and “Shareholder” throughout the said Memorandum and Articles of Association shall, where the context admits of it, be of synonymous meaning.”
When The Rangers Football Club plc (as became) was consigned to be dissolved, the ‘club’ that had been incorporated as the company ended with it. The terms ‘club’ and ‘company’ being synonymous. They were one and the same thing.
The membership of the SFA held by The Rangers Football Club plc, under the name of The Rangers Football club plc, was forfeited. It’s licence to participate in the game revoked. It’s share in and membership of the Scottish Premier League withdrawn.
A new legal entity called Sevco Scotland Ltd acquired the assets of the Liquidated company. These assets included the properties, plant, equipment and intellectual property rights, such rights providing Sevco with the legal means to use the former company’s image rights, trademarks and trading style. Employees of the liquidated company were permitted to transfer their employment to the new employer on equal terms as before, or not, at their own discretion.
Sevco Scotland Ltd was granted conditional membership of the SFA via a SFA Board authorised transfer of the SFA membership of Rangers FC plc.
There is now a team owned and managed by Sevco Scotland Ltd, since renamed The Rangers Football Club Ltd, participating in Scottish Football, known and trading as Rangers FC, playing in the same colours and the same stadium as the liquidated club, having been granted associate membership of the Scottish Football League and entry to participate in the bottom division of that league.
All of the above are statements are factually correct.
It is up to the reader to decide whether the team currently playing in the lower reaches of Scottish Football is a new club, or a continuation of the old club.
Those holding the former view can rely upon legal and regulatory principles to validate their argument.
Those holding the latter view must rely on emotional, intangible and semantic principles.

how do we donate to the melanoma bhoys. I had 3 freckles cut off last month, my mother had a melanoma in situ (thank God), this is a really important charity
Old Rangers are dead but we need a de facto ruling
Why don’t we all chip in hire a lawyer (preferably living outside Scotland for safety reasons) and challenge Sevcos claim they never died they are the same club and lets put this matter to rest …..legally
Maybe even other fans of other Scottish teams will help us get the truth out there

bankiebhoy 1 That one institution that im talking about is the Masonic Lodge who hold sway over all areas of the Scottish establishment.I have seen it operating at first hand I hope you are never so unfortunate. H.H.
We rely on the BBC for so much info regarding events worldwide because their journos have a reputation for fearless reporting.
One of the biggest scandals in modern Scottish history is breaking on their doorstep and Auntie is cowering from the hordes. Their silence on matters sevco makes them complicit in criminality but turning their back on one of their own is despicable. Lowest of the low. Worse than the hordes, and more dangerous for us.
We could petition PL to ban them from CP. The knuckledraggers banned them for fair reporting. We should do likewise for unfairness. At the very least it will highlight the issue and maybe get some proper BBC journos from London to come and see what the fuss is really all about.
We have a Europe wide profile just now. Let’s use it!

Copy of my complaint.
I would like to register my disgust and anger at the treatment of BBC Scotland sports journalist, Jim Spence. Mr. Spence’s “crime”, was to utter a factually correct statement re. the potential return of a director of the now defunct Glasgow Rangers. Mr. Spence made reference to the fact that this particular director was on the board at the time of their demise, which was true, and made reference to the fact that the club had “died”. Here are the words that Mr. Spence actually spoke: “John McClelland who was the chairman of the old club, some people will tell you the club, well, the club that died, possibly coming back in terms of the new chairman.” As a result of these comments, a number of complaints were received, I believe, and an apology was issued to “those who were offended” by them. I understand that Mr.Spence is now considering his future at the BBC, due to the lack of support he has received. I am of the opinion that Mr. Spence has been one of only a handful of journalists, sport or otherwise, who have consistently reported the events at Ibrox and within the SFA, in an honest, truthful, and impartial manner. It would appear that BBC Scotland have no use for such caracteristics in their journalists, at least not in the Sports Department anyway.

Hope that news about Jim Spence being backed by BBC management is indeed correct.
I had a feeling of there being a sea change in the MSM over the weekend, that the truth over Sevco was about to be outed and the great myth dispelled.
Make no mistake, we need guys like Spence, Daley, Cosgrove to tell it as it is.

Jim Spence hung out to dry?!
Scotlandshire is a pathetic, backward country inhabited by cowards.
…but it is also a country which has many brave and forward-thinking people who are prepared to put their heads above the parapet and make their voices heard over the banging of drums and the sound of flutes which often waft through the streets of many towns and cities throughout the land.

It was a dreich February Monday morning as I made my way to Balloch Station with my da; this was unusual as our relationship at the time was a bit strained. If the truth be told I was acting like an eejit at the time, growing my hair long, drinking cheap wine and running with the wrong crowd.
He normally got a lift from an acquaintance but that morning he opted to take the train as he wanted a word with me out with the maternal protection I would have got at home.
He stopped into the Tourist House and picked up the Express, his main passion being horse racing he pulled the supplement out as we were passing St Kessogs.
Just as we were crossing Balloch Bridge he held the front page open and said “look at this”, the headlines were of the return of Big Jock to Celtic, unfortunately the sub title commented on him being Celtic’s first protestant manager, “I hate that stuff son” he said, “I don’t care if he’s a heathen Chinese as long as he brings us a winning team”.
I at that time was working with the nation’s top house builder on a site called Wester Duntiglennan. The majority of apprentices were jungle jims and we were bouncing with the news that morning. At last a light at the end of the tunnel.
Jock arrived for business on Monday’ March 8 two days after we had eliminated Killie 3-2 in the Scottish Cup ¼ Finals (the last time we would wear the Shamrock strip) while he managed Hibs to a 2-1 victory over the now deid team.
Now let’s be perfectly honest here after the first blush of a 5-0 victory against Airdrie other than the Cup results his record was pretty dismal including heavy defeats at Brockville and East End Park as he tinkered with the side. But we didn’t care as we knew this was going to be the start of something big.
Out went fan favourites like Jim Kennedy and Johnny Divers, a young red heided temperamental winger was also left out on occasion and was replaced by Charlie Gallagher for the Final.
That glorious April day I saw grown mhen greetin including my da who I met outside the stadium after the game, still no happy with me but the joy of a Celtic win allowed us the opportunity to hug each other.
That summer we revelled in the green hills of Duntocher as we looked forward to the coming season with Joe McBride added to the side.
There was a crusty oul hun working there who couldn’t hide his hatred of us, “I don’t care what you all say, this is the same team that’s won nothing for years and a fluky cup win isnae going tae change that” he said. Oh how I wish I had been there 2 years later.
Season 65/66 didnae get off to a good start as we lost 2 of the first 3 League Cup games to both Dundee sides, the 2nd one a home loss.
However, in between the Cup games the League opener always occurred and back up to Tannadice we went this time winning 4-0 with the recalled John Divers scoring the 1st goal in our 9-in-a-row run.
Except for a 1-2 loss at ayebroke where Jock for some unexplainable reason left Joe McBride out of the side we never looked back.
Some Celtic supporters claim the Scottish Cup win in 1965 was the catalyst for the Big Cup and NIAR, not this wee mhan; I believe the 2-1 League Cup win over the zombies to be that. This was our first cup final win over them since October 19th 1957 and our 1st cup win since February 28th 1959.
Jock set our stall early when Ian Young dumped arch hun willie Johnson on the running track early doors to show we were no longer going to be intimidated by the likes of greig, mckinnon and provan, the latter 2 conceding the penalties that would win us the cup. A recalled Jinky tore big provan a proverbial new one that afternoon.
This was also the day the huns rioted at the end, we didnae care as “the Bhoys were back in town”.
The Big Mhan gave us our pride back and left us with countless memories.
Now this may upset the PC brigade but a ditty at that time based on the Heinz baked bean commercial went like this:
“A million Catholics every day
Pick up their rosary beads and say
Stein, Stein, Stein”.
Hmmmmm
Got the lappy operational again, forgot the caps lock delay and the spell-check!

BBC Scotland presenter Jim Spence will not
leave his position and has been given the full
support of BBC Scotland and the National
Union of Journalists (NUJ) following the
abuse he has received over comments he
made about Rangers FC on air.
The Drum has learned that Spence, a long
time sports reporter for BBC Scotland, based
in Dundee, has faced a torrent of abuse on
Twitter, email and even through text in
reaction to comments he made while
discussing the board of Rangers.
While discussing new additions to the
Rangers board, Spence is quoted to have
said: “John McLelland, who was chairman of
the old club, some people will tell you the
club, well the club that died, possibly coming
back in terms of the new chairman.”
BBC Scotland is understood to have received
over 400 complaints in relation to the
comments and is said to have informed
complainants that Spence could have better
phrased his point.
It had been rumoured that Spence has
considered accepting voluntary redundancy
as a result of the reaction over the last week.
The Drum understands that Spence today
(Tuesday 10 September) met with
management at BBC Scotland and has been
given their full backing, while they have
begun steps to combat the abuse he has
received and taken action against those
responsible, although it is not yet clear what
action that is.
It’s also understood that BBC Scotland will
oppose a ruling by the BBC Trust that they
breached accuracy guidelines in reporting the
financial collapse of Rangers Football Club in
2012.
Paul Holleran, NUJ organiser for Scotland,
told The Drum that he was happy with the
steps that BBC Scotland had taken: “The BBC
has offered its total support to Jim. We do
not condone the vile and disgusting emails
and texts that he has received and find it
totally unacceptable that a journalist has
been treated in this way.”
BBC Scotland has declined to comment,
stating that it did not comment on individual
members of staff.
