HOOPS’ FRENCH FANCY

CELTIC have been reported to be showing an interest in Bournemouth’s French striker Lys Mousset.

The 23-year-old frontman has failed to command a first-team place in Eddie Howe’e side since joining from Le Havre in 2016 after scoring 14 goals in 36 appearances.

Mousset, who has been capped eight times by his nation’s Under-21s, has struggled for game-time at the south coast outfit and has managed just five goals in 68 outings.

The Premier League side value the youngster around the £10million bracket, but might lower their expectations with the attacker’s contract due to expire in 13 months’ time.

The champions, according to the Daily Mail, could offer cash plus a player in exchange for Mousset.

His fellow-Frenchman Odsonne Edouard, 22, has taken on the main responsibility at Celtic since Moussa Dembele’s £19.8million switch to Lyon on the last day of the August transfer deadline.

Scotland international Leigh Griffiths has also been missing in 2019 due to personal issues while Vakoun Issouf Bayo, bought for £2million from Slovakia in January, has played only five minutes of first-team football and was sidelined after sustaining a hamstring injury last month.

In the champions’ massive summer shake-up, it is clear a top-quality striker must be a priority to aid Edouard.
