Horrible damage inflicted by requisitioners

641

The actions of the Sevco Requisitioners in undermining Newco Rangers made no sense.   They invoked an almighty schism, one which will forevermore deny the emerging club from a potentially rich seam of support.  An act of such potential vandalism would surely not be undertaken unless they had a plan to deliver the necessary votes?

Turns out they didn’t have a plan after all.  Some Oldco Rangers fans put their money on the table but their face didn’t fit.  As a consequence, another group of Oldco Rangers fans overtly and covertly campaigned against them, but refused to put cash on the table.

Say what you like about the Easdales, they paid their money fair and square (and any debts to society, for those who like to go digging in the past).  The embryonic club will develop in their image, it will stand or fall on their judgement.  After coughing up, they endured incredibly manipulative pressures.  They don’t strike me as natural underdogs but on this occasion they were.  They resisted and I’m pleased for them.  If you want to buy a club, walk in the front door with your cash, don’t try to drive the price down by trashing the club and invoking an insurrection.

Paul Murray deserves a special mention in this whole process.  When Charles Green was pulling a deal together to buy the liquidated assets of Rangers, Murray campaigned against him, and all others who were prepared to put money on the table.  As a consequence, Green was up against it from day one.

Instead of addressing Rangers fans as the man who ensured football would continue at Ibrox, Charlie was painted as a pantomime villain.  Without this act of vandalism, he would have been able to sell 30,000 season tickets at full price.  He could also have chased everyone earning over £50k per annum off the premises, ensuring Newco launched profitably, with a strong fan base.

Today, Newco would have money in the bank and be laying the foundations necessary for top flight football.  No ‘legend’ would have been able to hold them to ransom in return for £800k p.a.  Instead, Green, with £5.5m and untold more from his consortium in the game, was put in a horrible situation.  As a consequence, he overpromised and under-delivered.

Having done all this, Murray turned on the Easdales, still without the money to get the job done.  It is utterly unfathomable.

“I’m angered and offended,” Gattuso told Mediaset television. “I’m serene and will explain everything. I don’t want any stains on my career. I’ve never bet in my life.”

You played for Rangers remove that stain.

  2. NL at the AZ v Heerenveen game tonight.

    Finbogasson? Johannsson? Gudmundsson?

1-1, 10 mins to go. Johannsson scored for AZ, Finbogasson didn’t score for Heerenveen

Further to the John O’Hare story. Apologies for missing Evan Williams from my list of Celts on Saturday. And my dad and an occasional poster to this blog actually wrote to Sam Leitch at the BBC after Leitch did not show John’s goal v Belgiun on the Saturday football preview show immediately after it was scored. How could I ever forget John O’Hare?

It is not about ‘belief’ or opinion, it is about indisputable facts.

Rangers Football Club PLC was placed in liquidated on 14, June 2012. Not my opinion, but a matter of public record.

Opinion is what the media believe is important when it comes to the liquidation of Rangers. But it is best to stick to the facts and keep everything simple.

“It’s interesting to note that during the times where “rebel songs” were sung either on the terraces, concert halls and national TV no one was arrested and no one died.”

I have very similar memories of those days and times and songs.

What you say above was,for me,the watershed.

The resumption of the deaths and killings.

  13. Tontine Tim.. Unfortunately or fortunately (delete as your opinion dictates) we live in a different era and things that were acceptable to previous generations are not deemed acceptable any more. Society has taken away our rights to choose who / what we like or don’t like.. we are all expected to be 100% PC for fear of offending someone somewhere…. obviously that rule doesn’t apply at Ibrox or any ground the manky mob visits.. Did they not get called out at Berwick live on BT sport for what they are but I don’t really recall it getting a mention since..

Would you like to see 10 CL free years as the trade off for entry to the EPL? I think it it could quite easily turn out that way.

The Atlantic League scenario is a much better proposition for us IMO……or deal with what we have here?

The squad we currently have is almost there……..it needs a couple of quality signings in the right departments rather than squandering money on a half dozen projects.

A serious quality attacking midfielder (or two) and this squad can go places. They’re the guys who make the space for the goal scorers. You make enough passes into positions and anyone will score from them. The problem is midfield, not up front IMO.

Who says we need to sell every season anyway? Other than Peter Lawell for his end of year performance bonus?

    Just saying like……….

Sounds like someone needs to explain to them that the “company that owned the club” is a load of bull. Also, interesting that “Rangers” did not point them to UEFA for clarification, but rather the ECA. Wonder why that might have been……..

Here’s a thing about the ASA decision. The Rangers Football Club could run an add that said “Come and see Scotland’s Most Successful Football Club Play at Ibrox” and we could complain and they would uphold the complaint.

The decisions can appear a bit random and are all about context, semantics and whether people are likely to be misled.

They could have even over-ruled the complaint stating that while the claim was factually inaccurate, people were unlikely to be misled as most were aware that they were a new club and the claim applied to the old club, who could be joined in spirit at the stadium. Or words to that effect.
