Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

So much for Friday night football improving attendances.

Although the initial plan was to have local Derbies or at least teams that were relatively close to each other.

So sorry to hear the sad news about your niece. I’ll keep her in my prayers.

  4. I see people doing official collections in London stations for all sorts of good causes.

99% of people just ignore them. I try to give them even just a quid just to acknowledge that they’re giving their free time up to help other people. Sometimes, I hope that the jangle of coins might encourage other commuters.

If you think of the poppy as an English charity, I have no problem with it.

I just wonder why do people think they should donate to it and for the rest of the year ignore every other collector.

  9. Is that our Marc Antoine playing for Wigan, he got 4 League goals for us and I witnessed one. Mid-week game against Motherwell as far as I can remember.

  10. You are correct Tom, I thought Inverness were a point ahead of us and thought we needed a draw but yes a draw or a win for Inverness and we can go top on Sunday. It would be a grand way to go into International break.

I wont say that we have improved so far…. but I dont think we have regressed either ….

I will say that I believe that Celtic had gone as far as they could under NFL …. he had his strengths as a manager, but he also had his limitations as a manager….

I think NFL was of the old school MON type … like a Moyes at Everton … at a smaller English club, he will instill a fighting spirit into his teams, but I never thought that he had the tactical nous to manage at a top level club …. and that is what I want for Celtic… to, once again, be considered one of the top clubs in Europe …

and to get there, Celtic had to, and have to, make some radical changes …

I’m not sure if RD is the guy to do that either … but, at a minimum, he is a break from the same old same old that has plagued british football for some time…. and some of what I have seen of his ideas, I like. I’m not sure yet that we have really seen a RD team, but I’ve seen enough that I’m prepared to give him the season, and see how things go.

Tough game on Sunday after the EL tie and the friction between the clubs. Don’t think a draw would be a bad result, all things considered.

  18. BGX I think its somewhere close to Manchester. Honestly don’t give a f*** about any English soccer but its just interesting to see how Lenny fares as a Manager down there. That’s as far as my interest goes.
