Inter trepidation, Packy, Tommy, Joe & Patricia

809

Inter have hit a bit of form recently but comments coming out of Milan indicate their visit to Celtic Park is viewed with some trepidation.  The stadium’s Champions League reputation remains fresh in the memory, even if the team has been transformed since the last major victory over a truly top team two years ago.

A number of those who will play for Celtic on Thursday will have only seen those great European nights on television.  Playing in front of 60,000 Celtic fans will be a new experience.  Transforming this support into an energising force is our job.  Inter’s first objective will be to frustrate and quieten the crowd.  My hunch is that this will be difficult.

We have the line-up confirmed for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which is at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March.  Topping the bill for the Q&A is Packy Bonnar, Jock Stein’s last signing, who made his debut on St Patrick’s Day 1979.

Packy’s Celtic and Ireland team-mate, Tommy Coyne, will also be taking part.  Tommy had an incredible career and speaks intelligently on football, and life in general.  We’re also delighted to have Joe Miller.  Joe played in the same Celtic team as Packy and Tommy.  Part of our historic Centenary Team, he also scored that unforgettable Scottish Cup Final winner.  More recently Joe formed the Association of Former Celtic Players.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein’s first game as Celtic manager, which takes place that week, we also have Jock’s personal friend and biographer, Archie Macpherson will speak about the great man.  If you’ve ever needed inspiration…..

I’m also delighted to confirm we have Celtic’s First Lady of Song, Patricia Ferns, who is making the journey over from Ireland for our night.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Evening all,

    The hand of god,

I totally agree, Craig Gordon should be given a 5 year contract right now.

Given his past experiences and bad luck I think he realises how fortunate he is to be at a club like ours playing games against the likes of Inter etc.

I don’t think he would be desperate to jump to England if an offer came in, he’s been there, done it, and realised the grass isn’t always greener.

He should finish his career with us and then hopefully join the coaching staff as he seems to be one of the most switched on ‘professionals’ (in the true sense of the word) at the club. Hopefully the atmosphere and adrenaline created on Thursday goes a long way to making his long term future clear!

Just 1 Ticket needed for the Inter Game Please!

    Hi Fellow Celtic Fans,

As my Father is not very well I find myself now travelling up to Glasgow from Hampshire on Wednesday evening and staying until Sunday. I know this is a very long shot indeed, but if there is any kind CQN soul out there who has access to a spare ticket (I know, I know, don’t laugh!) for the Inter match I would dearly Love to take in the game if at all possible. There are only hospitality tickets left at £145 +VAT, so this is a bit ‘Ouch!’ for me. If anyone by some miracle does have a spare ticket, could they please contact me at jim at xanzada dot com. Thanks in advance! :-)

    Yours in Celtic,

Last I heard of Patricai Ferns was also in a wee sing song we had around the pool at the Riviera Hotel in Vegas, after the pool party at Convention 2009 I think (may have been 2007), was it her mhan who played the guitar or something ?

I went with my family plus family who now stay in Canada, and there was another 2 couples originally fae Cowie, who started the singing :-)

Now something different, anyone with any spare tickets (season books) for Sunday game, 3 family members flying from Canada for Inter game, will also be going to Hamilton game, just not bought tickets yet

A donation to Mary’s meals for any spare season books ?

    Hail Hail

Ps- HT I’m ready to donate that missing £1.12 in your fundraising, whit roaster donated the £18.88 :-)

I don’t listen for them but I didn’t hear any sectarian singing from our supporters during that crap game. As for the GB banner, people are desperate to blame our club for something.

The sooner the CQN loyal forget about their OF obsession the better. The OF is badly out of date.

    ___________

I wouldn’t call it an o/f obsession, more ripping the p**h out of them.

To most on here, hunskelping is a daily duty in our places of work.

Personally, I enjoy the ammo that gets posted on here to use in my work…that will never change.

No matter what thems call themselves, they will always think they are the peeple.

It’s our place to put them in theirs….;))))

    Alcohol at football? No thanks.

I was at the Grosvenor cinema on Saturday night. Not the screening where three women were arrested for attacking a man during a viewing of 50 shades.

I arrived just as the poor bloke, mid 50s and smartly dressed, was standing in the foyer to greet the polis who arrived with the phrase “he looks like he’s got a sore face, it must be him”.

According to eye witnesses, 4 “ladies” were being disruptive throughout the movie. The gentleman’s wife asked them to be quiet a number of times. It’s not clear from how, but a fight ensued and the 4 ladies were viciously kicking onto the wife on the ground.

Reports in today’s newspaper said the man had been hit by a bottle. The eye witnesses didn’t mention that.

However, I have no doubt that alcohol was a major factor. And if a bottle was used, it was more likely a wine bottle than Irn Bru.

Even in the screening I was in there were two women, older rather than younger, who were disruptive. Seen consuming a large amount during the movie and possibly a few before.

Alcohol at football will be the cause of some trouble. Not necessary.

    By contrast…

I was at the Southampton v West Ham match last mid week. Alcohol on sale and consumed during the game.

Despite the frustration of Southampton failing to break down a team reduced to 10 men there was no fighting among supporters, hardly a raised voice and not one swear word to be heard (apart from some funny chants by West Ham fans and a chorus of w@nker aimed at the ref after some poor decisions against Saints)

  18. You can take it as read, that there will be no more official complaints against the huns singing? If they got away with it in semi final, you can forget it from now on.

  19. More missing text. I give up. I’m going to see if I’m able to get some sleep tonight. I have a feeling I might see every hour on the clock.

“The game against Rangers is special”

Now thats what Ronny was qouted as saying

My point earlier which started a lot of nonsense about OF/Rangers/Dead/Alive etc was why was it ok for Ronny to say that and yet ex players get slaughtered on here for being soup takers etc because they refer to the Old Firm and Rangers

What annoyed me was that someone called both Joe Miller and Paki Bonner ” wa****rs

Both were great servants to Celtic and dont deserve that abuse
