IT troubles and Celtic v Hibernian Live updates

395

Like many of you, I struggled to get logged on with my Pass to Paradise for the Ross County game yesterday.  On the one hand, I was frustrated, but on the other, I had a bit of sympathy for the IT guys, who would have been in the eye of the storm.

Before you deploy a new system, IT will want a trial run to prove that the concept works in the environment.  Most commonly, for systems that are a bit leading edge like the one Celtic bought during lockdown to broadcast games, you are likely to stress the infrastructure in ways that the dozen-or -so earlier adopters did not.  During the trial, the vendor, not just the customer, will often discover things they did not know.

I’ve been there.  Irate customers waiting to buy, while the issue gradually escalates up the customer’s chain of command, with each level of the food chain one telling you how much money this downtime is costing them.  “Today is supposed to be the trial” is what you want to say, and it’s the truth, but you bite your tongue, block the noise out and get on with finding the fix.  All this happens while you communicate tersely the vendor, without going overboard, because at this moment, you need them more than they need you.  Software is not a business for the anxious.

I know it was frustrating, but I thought IT did well to stick the stream onto YouTube and get the login process working before halftime.  If only every workaround I’ve been involved with went that smoothly.

Live updates of Celtic v Hibernian will appear below – Pass to Paradise permitting!

  1. If that really is the case, I wonder how Fraser Forster feels?

he is probably thinking I’m made an ars* of this.

That would be great news, left back, centre half and we’re good to go domestically and CL qualifiers, all involved would deserve credit.

Yep. Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton sure loved to mess about

Andy Lynch and Tommy Burns – Left wingers coverted to Left backs. Danny McGrain playing both sides. Stephen McManus at Left back becoming a Centre Half. Davie Hay a RB who became a midfielder. Roy Aitken a CB who became a centre midfielder. Peter Grant a midfielder who became a right back. Ajer a midfielder who became a £25m rated CB. Bitton – midfielder to CB.

Our history is littered with veratile players who nailed down more than one position.

It’s not that unusual – most of the best LBs nowadays are converted wingers

  5. Go tell the Spartim on

I’m sure we’ve gone for the Greek keeper as FF was …. ‘fannying about’ or weighing up his options depending on what your perspective is.

  6. Seems we are progressing well with Barkas.

I think the issue with Fraser Foster is that he has 2 years left on a £70k / week contract. That a lot of money to give up to join us again on a permanent contract for , say, even £25k per week. From £7m over 2 years down to around £2.5m.

How many of us would take that over 64% salary cut ?

  7. Re Boli Bolingoli

I think he would have played today if Greg Taylor hadn’t been injured yesterday , good management by Lenny in my opinion no point having two injured left backs as the serious stuff beginsHH

  8. I feel quite happy and more reassured after today’s game about the quality we have in the squad. I agree we do not need to go out and add 4 or 5 new players – UNLESS – they are to replace top team players who have left or are leaving. We need a goalie brought in, Fraser or Barkas. There seems to be growing talk of Ajieri (?) and Toney. If there is any truth in this, then Odsonne is definitely for the off. If Ajer and Ollie go then they need to be replaced with first team ready players. We do need to buy in a left back.

I felt that several players showed today that they should be in the first team squad but not necessarily starters. Karamoko, Luca Connell, Ismaila Soro, Patrick Klimala and Euan Henderson. They can be brought on to rest others or if players get injured and I don’t think they’ll let us down. In Klimala’s case he’ll be pushing to start domestic games every week.

The future’s bright. The future’s green and white.

I’m sure he will be disappointed.

But he still has 2 years left on his Southampton mega-contract and that’s clearly his priority. Riches over glory.

It was his choice at the end of the day.

We need at least one centre half. Preferably, left sided

McKenna of Aberdeen is left-sided and I understand the top priority.

Nothing new to report T, just what o posted last week. Ajeti is one we are pursuing. Barkas I was told last week was all but done with the instalments of the fee to be nutted out and the signing would be announced this week. FF through his hat back in the ring and NL who is keen gave him a cut off, what that is I don’t know.

I am confident Ajeti will come in, GK as I posted before will be Barkas or FF. I that is now blatantly obvious but it wasn’t last week when I posted.

Hope you and the Gnome are well T.

    From the SPFL:

“ARBITRATION PANEL HANDS DOWN UNANIMOUS JUDGEMENT

    MONDAY, 27 JULY 2020

SPFL Chairman Murdoch MacLennan said: “The formation of this SFA Arbitration Panel was an important step for Scottish football and one which enabled a minutely detailed examination of the entire process of ‘calling the season’.

“Directors and officials from the SPFL co-operated with the panel to the fullest possible extent, during which they were subjected to forensic examination by QCs, all under the scrutiny of a very experienced tribunal.

“No-one should be under any illusion about the rigorous and challenging nature of this process. I would fully expect all those involved to agree that no stone was left unturned, no allegation left unanswered. Every aspect of the various arguments put forward by both Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle was examined minutely, with full access to all relevant documents, records, emails and telephone logs.

“The panel heard from many witnesses, including senior figures from across our game and three members of the SPFL executive team. Thousands of pages of evidence were considered.

“I’m therefore very pleased that the tribunal unanimously held that the challenges to the written resolution of 15 April 2020 failed, and that the SPFL were entitled to pass, and give effect to, the written resolution and all that flowed from it.

“Throughout the process, and whilst under the most severe pressure, criticism and media scrutiny, the SPFL has followed appropriate legal guidance and acted in accordance with the best interests of the SPFL as a whole at all times.

“It is regrettable that the league had to be concluded in the way that it was. However, despite calls to the contrary from some parties, subsequent events, including the virtual shutdown of our entire country for months, confirm that there was no viable alternative. With contact training only being allowed to resume on 29 June, it was simply impossible for games to be played or for Season 2019/20 to continue.

“I want to make clear that it is unfortunate the early curtailment of the season relegated Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer. However, in circumstances where reconstruction was comprehensively rejected by SPFL member clubs, there was no viable alternative. I sympathise hugely with all three clubs, but given this clear and unequivocal tribunal decision, it is imperative that everyone accepts it and works together to ensure that our game can move forward and tackle the enormous and continuing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “This is a clear, comprehensive and unanimous decision.

“I am absolutely delighted that our approach has been vindicated throughout, following an intense period of legal scrutiny and review.

“It has been a very demanding process, but I had complete confidence in the actions and decisions of the SPFL board and the SPFL executive team.”

If the Greek keeper’s shut out record is so good, we should go back in for the centre half who plays in front of him.

  16. A threefur

    Goalie signed, allegedly

    Hearts consigned

    Youngsters winning

How does that place us in the close season Covid stakes?

  17. I absolutely agree with Sid that there is a world of difference for a player to perform well in a friendly as compared to a competitive full blooded game,

Most of the time players don’t go full blooded into tackles in friendlies & that gives players a wee bit of space to pick passes etc.

I am certainly not going to say, that Polish Paddy, Karamoko, Soro & Luca erc. are nailed on stars.

However all they could do today was to put themselves in the shop window and they did that in Spades.

With 5 subs allowable this year Managers will be able to make a few early substitutions if needed without having to worry about finishing with 10 men if the team picked up a late injury.

There should be games where the points are secure, where we can give our top stars an early shower & give the fringe players a bit of decent game time,

Giving a guy 5 or 6 minutes when a tie is effectively over is pretty pointless.

I sincerely hope that the Bhoys who shone today get a fair chance to impress in the upcoming League games.

    Then we can judge them.

I think Taylor and karamoko would disagree about tackling – but I agree with your overall point.

  20. I’ve had no trouble so far with Pass to Paradise – touching a plank of wood.

However, we have 5 full days to get things right before the game v Hamilton. They should be used for user acceptance testing/ load testing.

Every day at 1.00 pm there should be a live broadcast interview with the manger and players.

  21. Fantastic story about the pilot from Motherwell and the care he got in Vietnam.

‘you need to get a grip’ he says about the dangers of passing on the virus.

  22. I don’t agree Ajeti or Toney comin in means Edouard will go

    At least not this season

Ajeti, if reports are to believed, is a season long loan with a 5.5mill option to buy. I would say he would be brought in as a replacement for Eddie next season and beyond

  23. Barkas is 26, 6’5” and 10 caps for Greece and likes to play outfield in training (so comfortable with his feet). Also played against us 2 years ago at CP so knows our fans and crowd atmosphere, What’s not to like ?

  24. SPFL reaches streaming deal with Sky

Fans will be able to watch one-off Scottish Premiership games this season after the SPFL confirmed clubs can sell matches on a pay-per-view basis.

The league announced at the start of June that clubs could stream home fixtures to season-ticket holders only. But supporters can now buy individual games or away matches – as long as they are not being broadcast by Sky Sports – when the season starts on Saturday.

Clubs can set their own prices, ranging so far from £12-£20 per game.

Only Celtic, Rangers, and Hamilton are yet to confirm if they will sell single matches, although Hibernian will not have the service in place until October and Aberdeen will monitor how it works this weekend before deciding what they will do.

The agreement will remain in place as long as games are taking place behind closed doors or with restricted crowds. Sky’s £160m five-year deal allows it to show 48 games each season, but all other matches can be streamed by clubs should they choose to do so.

Great to see the wee sevco getting justice. Hopefully the charges against them to be thrown out of the league will be followed through.
