It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

Very glad to hear that GMS is at home recovering. I had a real dread of bad news there.

Also good to hear that Paddy Roberts is returning but I also want a centre half and if possible this guy:

However, even more importantly, I am looking for a group of CQN’ers to join myself and Jamesgang at this event.

    Any takers?

  3. Not just the football authorities who are intransigent then, maybe this is why the Government are not demanding the governing bodies of football act following the SC judgement, you scratch my back sort of thing, that wouldn’t be the case would it? A huge mistake on their part if that is the case.

    Yes , please.

  5. JJ,

Fair point, we played well on Saturday and perhaps no-one could have done more, but perhaps, just perhaps he may have found that wee spark to bamboozal and hypnotise a defender and keeper:-)

    Perhaps not.

  6. My nephew was in the ticket office this morning and the girl who served him says it’s permanent deal to be announced tomorrow.

Would love a 4 year deal if theres anything in that rumour. But since his names Paddy a 6 year deal would be even better…after all you know how we forget our clubs roots if we don’t have an English player with an Irish (first) name every so often.

For what it’s worth ( and in these days of bullshit ,fake news and downright 100% guff – that might be absolutely nothing ). Italian fitba media have him going to Lazio for 18 million euros . Allegedly it will happen after Lazio sell Keita Balde to Juve for 25 million euros .. I note that Azmoun is ” the Iranian Van Basten “

  12. Escape To Victory’s on,again.

It really is utter pash. It’s so bad I now want the Germans to win just to add spice to the story. On penalties. ;)

  13. No political party has ever come out to congratulate any team on playing in the CL, no matter the financial rewards to the economy. You know why? It’s not a vote winner to be seen to be favouring one or the other. It’s probably the same reason why Labour, who were in Government and the ruling party in GCC for many many years, didn’t come straight out and condemn almost 100yrs of sectarian employment policy by one of those clubs against Catholics por cierto.

More like it. Any permanent deal for Paddy is a great deal for us, any loan deal is a waste of time and resources. Permanent only.

There is no room for sectarianism on this blog,or elsewhere as a Celtic supporter.

I don’t doubt your love for the club, but you made an inappropriate post, which you have tried to defend.

That’s fine,we all make mistakes. I’ve made hunners, and probably more than that.

  16. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Me, Wee BGFC and Mrs BGFC are staying in Garmisch Partenkirtchen for the October week, and travelling up to Munich by train for the game on the Wednesday.

Anyone any local info on how to get back to Garmisch after the game – it will be late due to 8:45pm local kick off time, and therefore no realistic chance of making the last train from Munich central (leaves at 11:25).

Any late night buses, or anything of that nature? Checked out a private transfer > £200, so quite steep, but only thing I can see at the moment.

    HH

    BGFC!

  17. I’m not getting involved in Patrick vs William, but Cultsbhoy at 12.06 has a point. Paddy McCourt was cut a lot of slack. But so was Tommy Johnson. So was Harald Brattbakk.

So – if a player is good enough to play for Celtic, get him signed. If he’s not good enough, don’t fanny about, replace him with someone who is.

In neither case should his name have one iota of influence on the decision.

  18. I’m very disappointed about the Paddy Roberts saga especially now that some posters are suggesting that it’s a four year permanent signing. I wanted him on loan for a year. A bargain for £3million, imo.

When will it sink in that your various “parties” (an oxymoron indeed) and your “leaders” are all participants in the biggest shabby charade on Mother Earth. Make no mistake, Rome is burning and the dumbed down populace are fiddling away.

    Logs off.

  20. Hope BRTH is correct , 4 year deal is a good starter . But we need a rugged no prisoners taken, quality centre half , and we need him now . Another centre forward to back up the griff just now would also be a bonus , but knowing celtic like I do , what we need and what we get are two different things . Just read that piece on Armstrong saying he never wanted to leave celtic , as far as I can make out ,it will be the same scenario next year with him , if he was wanting to stay ,he would surely have signed on for longer . Still it gives us time to look for a replacement , now we know the celts are not what he wants . I posted MY thoughts a few weeks ago on big joso , like Armstrong ,I don’t think this guy see,s his long term future with us either , had he not been injured he would have been at Torino , he wanted to go , and celtic allowed him to speak to them as far as I’m aware , then why wasn’t, a replacement sought then , and BTW , I wish both would commit to the celts long term . But just my twopence worth

Italian fitba media claim that UEFA have yet to approve the deal. . . Some think PSG might still have to unload some players. Fly a kite pundits suggesting Verratti to Real / Barca / Bayern and Pastore to Bayern /Inter . I used to go to Palermo games to watch Pastore . Often fabulous ,occasionally very poor.

I had read it was almost a done deal, and he would play a game with PSG before us.You usually find ,SOT,that in football the mega clubs get their way.

GMS – hope he is on the mend… Always thought he could have been handled better.. exceptional talent on the ball and always tried hard. Just lacking a bit of composure. Better than JH though.. he just doesn’t suit our style. OK at Aberdeen where idea was get to byline and whip it across for big Rooney

FFS,will you and the rest of the experts give Hayes a chance. He is just in the door.not a great deal of game time, and getting slaughtered. He was bought as a quality back up.

Brendan just stopped short of calling some of the support @ssholes.I can see his reasoning.
