It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

    Thank God he is recovering.

    Hear Hear.

  2. Chavez,

I’d suggest contacting your local SNP MSP, they really don’t like talking about this.

The vote to repeal has happen, just not acted upon by the SNP, it should just be a matter of time.

F.A.C. did get very involved, the demo wasn’t that small, lots of Grey Brigaders attended:-)

Many put pressure on politicians and the act was repealed. Now we wait for the process of repeal do what it should.

The SNP have not covered themselves in glory with this.

As you say it has to be scrapped.

  3. Roberts on loan? Not for me. Signed on a permanent deal or not at all. More pressing needs in the squad.

  4. Happy Birthday JimTim, have a great day!!

I’m happy to have young Roberts back irrespective of his Christian name, a quality, dynamic player who will add to our team.

BMCUWP – looking forward to 11/11 M, always good to meet up :)

I’m not a new poster, I’m an extremely intermittent poster.

I wouldn’t define my political beliefs so narrowly as to describe myself a ‘nationalist’.

I try to keep well informed and make any decisions based on the information at hand. I actually happen to co-host a news & politics podcast too.

My point is that such a forum would be the correct place to voice such an obviously partisan view, although the biased nature of the reporting would probably put me off even via such a medium.

This however is where I come for news on Celtic. There is plenty going on right now which Paul could have chosen to discuss, such as Paddy, Rivaldo, or the weekends display.

For the record I am against the legislation. I agree with a previous poster that they won’t repeal it until an alternative has been drafted.

  7. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

    Get well soon GMS…

You are not alone – be great to see you back ripping it up….just not against Celtic!

  8. Cultsbhoy opined that Paddy`s below par performances have been forgotten and that his name adds a little glister to his appeal. ADDS, not IS. That opinion has been translated as :

Patrick Roberts is really not all that good and if he didn`t have an Irish first name, no one would be interested in him.

Cultsbhoy, of course, said nothing of the sort but once something grows legs, it is difficult to stop it running .

    JJ

  9. Also to those saying we don’t need Roberts, he is exactly what we needed on Saturday.

On a few occasions last season he made the difference in similar games. Anyone who can’t see the boys obvious talents clearly don’t know a player when they see one.

  10. Hope it was a jinx that went wrong too. A poster on another site last night said he knew of him when he played for Airdrie and that he was a sensitive soul.

My post was a tongue in cheek variation on the usual ‘are you a hun?’ question.

For the record, I too am an infrequent poster. I avoid politics on this forum and happen to agree with the football views you’ve posted.

  12. Robinbhoy:

On your visit to Istanbul in late October. It is normally around 15_18 degrees during the day.At night it can get cold.So take sensible clothes to suit.Chance it will rain.

A photographers paradise. Not possible to see it all.The normal things like The Hagi Sophia, and Blue Mosques are unmissable. The Basilica Systern next to the Blue Mosque is an incredible piece of Roman engineering, still in use.A “What have the Romans ever done for us”moment. The boat trips on the Bosphorus are great.Palaces and incredible sights. If you are taking the Missus,The Grand Bazaar is fantastic. You can pick up the new Celtic top for a tenner.LOL.

Money.Dont change until you get to Istanbul.Tell your bank you are going and take your bank card.I only get charged 1.50 for a transaction, and you get full bank rate.Around 4.5 just now.Millions of ATMs about.

The hotels are great with tourists and will tellyou any information you need.

Heaven forbid Celtic fans have been watching Patrick Roberts for 18 months and would love him back.

If he was p1sh would there be those who want him back because hes called Patrick?

    No chance.

    Theres your answer.

Think I might say something stupid next time I’m in a meeting at work, wait for the inevitable consensus that I’m talking rubbish and then dismiss the majority view as ‘groupthink’.

90 minutes according to the news reports. BIG CUP WINNERS explanation might be the reason, I don’t know the river well.

Important thing is that he’s fine and recovering well.

  19. MacJay,

    Nonsense, just nonsense.

Comparing Johnny Hayes and Paddy Roberts is just daft. Johnny has been here a couple of months, performances with decide whether his star shines or not. Paddy’s already performed and entertained.

It’s the entertainment element which gives him the cult status, in my opinion of course. Being called Paddy is neither here nor there, Paddy Dembele wouldnt be as popular as Moussa if he didn’t score the goals.

Kidpyramid, set the agenda and post away many will join in.

Others will talk about whatever they want to.

    And welcome to the madhoose.

  20. Have to agree, Paul67. Might not sit too well with SNP supporters. Unfortunately, they are on record as the infamous Act “evening things up” because they didn’t want to use the existing laws on sectarianism.

  21. Best bit of news today (And any other day) GMS doing ok. Hopefully it was just a bit of craic that went wrong.

If not I hope he gets the help he needs.

2nd bit….welcome back to your spiritual home David, Billy oglivie Crawford Campbell Roberts.

The lettering guys in the Superstore will be pleased.

  22. So are the reports right when they say it’s a loan for Paddy and it’s gonna cost us £3 mill for wages and fees ?

If it’s anything close to that, I reckon, and prob many more will agree that the money could be better spent on buying someone, or at least putting the £3 mill towards buying someone who we can get a return from, not great business from a frugal board, but I could be wrong and it’s a permanent deal.

Time will tell what it is and if it has all been worth it.

    I agree completely.

I was suggesting that there was a particular affection extended to Irishmen who play for Celtic.

And why shouldn`t there be ?

Not making a comparison between Paddy and Johnny.

  26. Sometime s some of the opinions on here are jaw dropping.I have no idea how the mindset of some people works. In the week that Paddy is hopefully, going to be unveiled we have some telling us,in their own words”He is not really that good”or,”We need other players more”.The daddy of them all being,”If his name was not Paddy, would we like him as much”.

Wether we get Paddy for a loan,or permanent deal,we should just be thanking God that his playing time for us is ongoing.Maybe in the future he will be a permanent Celt, who knows?.Is it so hard just to sit back and watch a little genius do his stuff while we can?.

  27. First of all, glad GMS is safe and recovering.Hope he’s back at it asap.

    ===

As a player I think Bobby Patricks is worth the effort and cost of attending games,an entertainer with game changing ability. But…a loan is somewhat underwhelming and more beneficial to him and Man City than us.Still be good to watch him, mind, just wish he was ours.

    One Bobby Patricks! ;)

The best thing about the SNP is their peak has passed.Thank dog.I’m with Einstein when it comes to Nationalism,
