It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

Re Christie…Im undecided but the lad is delivering on the challenge that is set when a player is loaned out. Im also mindful he is Aberdeen’s best player. I wouldn’t extend that luxury.

  6. Ffs , just get Paddy signed, he wants come and we want him in the hoops.

It might take more than we want to outlay but he will be cheap at the price as he fits the jersey as he has shown in the past and will only get better under BR and his staff.

My wife just asked on the Garmisch Bayern fanclubs page and one guy replied that the last train leaves Central station at 11.32 but you would have to leave the game 10-15 minutes early . I will post more info if and when more replies or options come up .HH

Cheers mate – yup, I had checked the train times, but leaving the game early isn’t an option – would walk to Garmisch instead :-)

  13. Auldheid at 4.00pm,

I agree with your OC argument. I suspect that there was no option B. Another consideration to support the loan option, if that is what will unfold, is that it gives one more year for a young player to develop, viz Johnson or Nisbet.

Forrest needs a challenger to up his game. He is content to pass the buck too much in games. Robert’s presence will keep him honest. However, the CH issue is probably more important than any other facing the team at the moment, IMHO.

  16. A rather fortuitous coming together of sporting events in October for Minnesota based Celtic fans. The Vikings play in London on Sunday 29th, followed by the visit of Bayern Munich to Paradise on Tuesday 31st. If ever there was a reason to make the long trip home surely this is it.

I came up short last year trying to get CL tickets from Celtic and was helped out by a couple of CQN’ers who went above and beyond to ensure my son and I got to see the ‘Gladbach game.

If any season ticket holders are not able to use their tickets for the BM game I would be enormously grateful for the opportunity to buy them from you.

If it is a one year loan, I hope it’s with an option to buy. From reports I’ve read , the situation is complicated by clauses in the transfer from Fulham,so perhaps the time factor in sorting it all out is the problem rather than board parsimony. Get him this year on loan ,then sign him up for 4 years this time next year.

jeez wits – i remember playing rugger against gerard’s in a field covered in cow dung – great stuff – seriously regretted couple of tackles.

Hopefully its a loan at this point so they have time to iron out the complicated clauses in the contracts with Fulham and Man City, maybe its like the holy goalie loan. Optimistic CSC

A corporatist cult, been saying that for years (witness the new intake of Glasgow councillors proudly brandishing their “I’m with Nicola” pens).

Meanwhile back to the football, great news re Paddy re-signing. Would love to have him on a permanent deal, but football economics make that a pipe dream.

Also feel for Callum. Through no fault of his own he’s become the target for wee Gordy to display his thrawn contrariness. The sooner the press clamour dies down for his inclusion the sooner he’ll get picked. Not that I care much about Scotland, other than we now constitute half the team.
