It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

  5. I am a little bit puzzled concerning the seeming desperation for another central defender.

We play against Scottish opposition most of the time and we have the following :

    Simunovic,Boyata,Svietchenko and Ajer.

We also have Lustig and Tierney who can cover there quite well. Furthemore, If Lustig and Tierney have to be used, we have Ralston and Millar to fill the formers` positions.

Of course, I would love it had we a Virgil van Djik standard in there but, as things stand, I am not sure what we would do with another ready to go central defender when Boyata is fit again.

I think the fact that Simunovic is injured ,Boyata was injured ,Sviatchenko is injured (and for sale), Ajer isn’t ready, Lustig and Tierney are relatively untried, add the collapse of the Coetzee deal and it might influence our obvious need to land a Centre Back for the CL.

    Really enjoying the podcasts.

    Top stuff.

Really hope if the loan rumours about Paddy are true, we have the option to buy .

Surely it can’t take all that time just to arrange a year loan?

I was poised to announce that saltimbocca alla Romana was a done deal for the tea.

However, in the last few minutes I can now reveal that there has been a SENSATIONAL 11th-hour bombshell meaning the deal is OFF.

While all other aspects – pork escalopes, Parma ham, white wine, chicken stock – are in place, the sage has failed to appear in time. It is understood to be somewhere within Jim Farry’s fax machine.

Frantic behind-the-scenes action is now underway to secure the services of some partly-frozen Gosht Achar – but I am told even this is hanging by a thread and dependent on the Basmati/Naan situation.

    Developing story.

WGS being an absolute fud.I dont care if a Celtic player never plays for Scotland again, thats my opinion, not shared obviously by the players who consider it an honour still. But to omit Calum from a pool depleted and bring in Morrison is unbelievable.Shocking man management on a grand scale.

    JJ,

    As far as I understand it from here;

Simunovic has been tapped up and wants away? And has a history of injuries.

Boyata, Is injured and won’t be forgiven for the semi final against Sevco?

Svietchenko, Is out of favour and is being punted after being tapped?

Ajer, a young lad who may be better in midfield?

  11. Strachan will be effectively unemployed by Friday night. Scotland won’t beat Lithuania, certainly not with the players he picked.

  12. HAHA BGFC i feel your pain :) . Hotel in München is probably your best bet then .Killians have Damien Quinn performing the night before and the day of the game so imagine the Craic will be there right enough .Will certainly be there myself with the wife and a few locals and some friends flying in from Ireland .But Augustiner is my choice of tipple after a few Guinness of course . Hope you get it all sorted anyway .

You did not read what I said. I don’t think Brendan has a budget of whatever. I think he suggests he wants this player or that player. Now , the board have to agree or not.!!

So, what I’m saying is if the board don’t give the green light for players Brendan has asked for, then he will be offski, simples.

  15. AULDHEID on 27TH AUGUST 2017 11:48 PM

I had the pleasure of watching Dunky McKay in the early 60s and he was a cultured full back in the days Bobby Shearer of Rangers was of a different kulchur altogether.

*an absolute thug of a player, tried tae cripple the gentle and talented John Higgins only for our Iron Mhan tae carry out a bit of retribution, possibly helped end John’s career. Severely intimidated Frank Brogan who went intae hiding when playing against him, cost Frank his place in the 1963 SC Final replay and possibly his career tae with the leather belts, was also the reason that wee Ten Thirty missed the 7-1 game and was eventually transferred tae Birmingham City.

He was club captain and in his 9th season over at hades, at that time players generally got testimonials when they reached their 10th, he was freed.

I had a friend, a bluenose fae the sooside who was in the polis in Glasgow, his beat included Parkheid, widnae hear a bad word about our club. Told me that they used tae go intae the back of the pie stall beside the Jungle and it wisnae Bovril they were drinking, a bottle of pat mccluskey was always on hand for the polis on cauld days,

Anyway he decides tae go tae a game over in govan, in the queue beside him was wee shearer, he’s just off duty so has his coat covering his uniform. As he approaches the turnstile he opens his coat tae show his uniform in the expectation of getting in free only tae to be told “everyone pays tae get in here”, even their former club captain.

captain cutlass’s, as he was known, da was the grounds man at Douglas Park, on his retirement a testimonial committee was set up, big Jock who was a personal friend of oul shearer sent a team tae Douglas Park tae play the Accies, this wisnae a mickey moose sided but a few first teamers as well as quality street kids. They sent an autographed ball tae be raffled, probably charged them for the baw tae.

Unbelievably, or mibbees no, he was capped 4 times for Scotland. His first was in the infamous 9-3 game. Incredibly, again mibbees no, he was one of the few tae retain his place for the WC games, 2 against the Free State, which Scotland won comfortably, he stayed in the side for his final cap over in Bratislava in a Scottish side that contained 5 of his teammates, gubbed 0-4. He was replaced for the 2nd game against the Czechs by ironically Dunky MacKay who along with big Billy and Paddy Crerand led the home side tae a 3-2 victory and a playoff berth against the same side which I listened tae in the science lab at St Pats.

Never and I repeat never a fitba player and for those that didnae see him their greatest player ever could also be called shearer light.
