It’s Easter, forgive

I was away from home when Brendan Rodgers left, so absorbed the news in isolation.  I didn’t feel any of the betrayal that others seemed to.  Maybe things would have been different if I was in the middle of things.  Maybe feelings of betrayal are contagious?

For me, feelings towards Celtic heroes leaving goes back to two players: Kenny Dalglish and Charlie Nicholas.  I was 10 when Kenny left and 11 when he came back with Liverpool, and the European Cup, for Jock Stein’s testimonial.  He was booed by some in the home support, which I found incredible.  He was our everything for so long and still a hero to me.

By the time Nicholas left in ’83 I felt differently.  I’d bought a “Charlie Nicholas” scarf and told myself that’s the last time I hold up a player’s name.  Even now when I walk past the vendors outside the ground I think back to that scarf.  It was sore.  Kenny went for the European Cup, Charlie when for the parties and the Tories, and cannot bring himself to speak generously of Celtic.  He is forgiven for leaving but his scarcely disguised resentment toward Celtic means I am finished with him.

As for Brendan, would you or I leave Celtic for a three year contract worth over £15m?  Of course not.  It is fair to say some have rejected fabulous offers to stay at Celtic Park, so maybe we really wouldn’t, but most go, even fans like you and me.

It was clear Brendan was working his ticket since he decided to create disruption in August.  He could have waited until the end of the season, but working with a disruptive influence, who refuses to cooperate in planning decisions, but will not admit why, it not an ideal scenario either.  I was not unhappy to see a clean break.

But for me, he is in the same column as Kenny Dalglish, not that nyaff Nicholas.  He won us an incredible invincible treble, then another treble and another League Cup.  Europe aside, he was magnificent.  There are no comparable candidates because few have his sheer presence.

He is part of our history, and when we hopefully look back on 10-in-a-row, you will want to remember all of it with a smile.  It’s Easter, forgive.

  1. My least favourite team take the lead against my 2nd least favourite team. 15 mins played.

  2. Och wouldn’t ye guess it ,thems are top of the most goals in the first 15 minutes league

Hang yer heads in shame Celtic ?

  3. The bad news is the Huns are bossing it, the good news is that Hearts look a poor side. 2nd goal looks a matter of time. I’ve seen oil tankers turn quicker than Berra. Long way to go yet mind you.

Very sorry to read of your loss, may they both rest in peace.

  5. You’ve had your cross to bear (no pun intended) recently Garry but this Holy Week has been huge. If what we believe is true they are both in a better place RIP.

  6. Sky had a league table (for goals scored in the first 15 mins) showing the ole Sevco sitting way ahead of second placed Celtic…..I just laugh. The fawning over them by the commenrators however is a different matter so, volume off and volume up on the MC, Spurs game.

……And I’m sitting there thinking…do we go for plan B or wait and see if plan A works!

Just listening to a wee old pink floyd tune.

Hertz fans really should question that teams application when playing against the deadly bears, shocking

I have a couple of pictures of Bobby Craig – one where he is met by Jimmy McGrory at Central Station prior to his debut Vs Valencia.

Every time his name comes up, I think of sharing the pic with you. Do you have wattsapp?

  12. We saw it last week with Motherwell. They queued up to make mistakes in front of their own goal and handed it to the Huns on a plate. Same again today with the Jambos. Don’t see any blood ‘n snotters, out of the trenches, up and at em tactics or approach like they show against us. I hope we take 7 off them in the Cup Final.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother Molly, and Godmother Eileen. Sincere condolences to you and your extended family. Stay strong pal, the good times will remain for ever.

  14. Hearts are a complete embarassment. An easy cup run has kept their manager in a job. He will however know how to set up vs us in the final. A farewell trademark Naismith performance will make it a different type of OCASSION to this one for sure.

We will need to win this ourselves this next 2 years no slip ups. The post Morelos / Kent side already gelling. Playing against rubbish who are not interested but they will be selling season books with every goal.

Songbook out in full order today from the more vile of the two supports. It never ceases to amaze me how soft the atmosphere seems to be there when they play that mob.

  15. Friesdorfer,

Many Thanks for your kind wishes. Happy Easter to you and yours.

  16. What way does the whole ‘mole’ thing work?

I have always wondered who becomes a mole, how does it happen, and what is in it for said ‘mole’

  17. No issues whatsoever with Neil Lennon’s public utterences, or how he handles the press conferences, and it wouldn’t be Neil Lennon in person if he answered in any other way. He waits till the deflections are over then shoots from the lip, he could have slaughtered Aberdeen and Rainjurrz ( Nobody else did? ) over their shocking indiscipline, and he gets down and dirty with the press, who’ll aid anybody but Celtic in any controversy.

Comparing and contrasting style with his predecessor is unfair, and personally I don’t think being silent, or a aloof, or laughing off mibbery has does us any favours in the past three seasons, as it seems to have taken a turn for – worser

    Despite Rodgers’ crying about it

A very peaceful Easter to all on CQN.

    Today’s result entirely predictable.

Sevco’s league record against the top six this season………

    Celtic – 3 points from 9

    Aberdeen – 4 from 9

    Kilmarnock – 2 from 9

    Hibernian – 3 from 9

    Hearts – 12 from 12
