Jack, Kris and Marvin

412

I’ve loved the coverage Jack Hendry and Kris Ajer received for their international appearances over the break.  The situation in central defence is fluid, with Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and (on loan) Erik Sviatchenko each with questions to answer, Jack and Kris have to be considered as having an equal chance of starting the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The thing I’m most looking forward to is seeing Marvin Compper fully fit.  There can be no doubt that Brendan sees Marvin as a crucial element in developing younger players around him, in particular with an eye on the Champions League qualifiers.

Saturday’s home game against Ross County is a perfect opportunity to give Marvin a start, while resting one of the international travellers.  Let’s hope he plays.

It was my old dad D66 was talking about, I very rarely bet on the horses, my cash is too hard earned to give to them, although I do indulge now and again and I have other vices like the Celtic and a wee drink now and again. :)

My Dad is as spawny at the bookies as he is everywhere else. Dunno how he does it.

I remember him saying to my mate down here, after he’d been stupid enough to back against him about eight times in a row…

You know,Jimmy? See this betting lark,I’d chuck it if I was you. Yer just no’ lucky. Cmon, beers are on me. Save you money twice.

    Now,so what,you might say?

My mate Jimmy is a former doyen of The Bristol and The Louden, hardy boy who disnae take to being patronised or insulted. Well,he didnae until he met me and my Dad,but that one was a beaut. Jimmy knew he was beaten. Took his punishment and his beer in good grace.

Don’t know if that last post was to me David66 or D66

If it was to me, then like us all I wish I could turn back the clock.

  6. Ended up listening to the Dallas interview. A whole load of nothing to ba honest. Actually thought he sounded nervous.

An opportunity missed by the interviewer as just before he was on there was an interesting story of how the Pope may or may not have declared that there is no hell. He could have asked shuggie what he thought of his Holiness

Your dad sounds like a character.

I love these ( I was going to say tales) but that sounds like an untruth. I shall say I love awe these recollections of accounts passed. Brilliant

I don’t think when our parents are alive we take everything they say as the truth. My dad used to tell me some of his recollections of the past and I would be like aye ok dad.

When he passed I have found that everything that he told me was true and found out even more about him, things I wish he would have told me.

  9. I’m playing catch up on football news so apologies in advance for reintroducing yesterday’s news. I read the Anne Budge statement. If ever you needed any further evidence of just how out of touch some people are, read the last sentence:

Will Hearts seek assurances from the SFA that Rangers meet FFP criteria for a UEFA Licence for season 2018/19, given that the company has publicly reported substantial losses in each of its five years existence and requires further funding of £7.2m over the next two seasons as identified in their last accounts?

I would add that Hearts as a member club of the SFA, in conjunction with all other clubs, has a duty to uphold the rules and integrity of the game. In Rangers case, and as a result of their financial record over a number of years, I don’t think that it is enough to accept self-certification by the club.

Ann Budge: “ All I can say is that at Hearts, we have to jump through a lot of hoops to ensure we comply with FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules. We must assume that UEFA does the same with all other clubs and it’s UEFA who decide if a team can play in Europe or not. It’s not a question of whether a club is in debt. It’s a case of, is that club in a position to pay the debt back. We have to complete enormous amounts of paperwork to UEFA, the SFA, the SPFL. When we took over in 2014, we had to attend a lot of meetings to prove we could run a financially viable football club. There is no reason to think Rangers are being treated any differently from any other team in that respect.“

Nice wee story on video Celts about the 69 cup final.

I will never be described as having a Tontine like memory, infact I struggled yesterday trying to remember our last game at home, but for some reason I remember the 69 cup final like it had just happened.

Billy leaping, George and his dancing feet, Greg and his 2 left feet, and as for Ferguson I dont recall him doing anything of note.

I remember two years ago today, arriving at Dublin airport with my son Ryan. Almore was kindly picking us up to take us to our hotel. On landing, Ryan said, “Canny wait for a pint of Guinness da.”

Me. “Yer gonnae have to wait son.”

    R. “Whit ye on about da? We are on holiday. Pub lunch time.”

Me. “Dublin is dry today. We won’t get a Guinness till the Ireland game at Aviva Stadium tonight.”

R “WTF. Are you taking the piss da?”

    Me “Naw son. Sorry.”

    R “Expletive, expletive, expletive!!!”

So we went for lunch, overdosed on cappucinos, then met you and all the CQN bhoys at Saint Kevin’s Youth Tournament. We all witnessed a wee black bhoy in Hoops destroy Barcelona. His name was Karamoko Dembele. He was amazing and we were all sober watching him.

Ryan still talks about going to his first Ireland game in Dublin with Pat and Mick, two Scotsmen fae Kilwinning. What a great Easter weekend on the 100th Anniversary of The Rising. Memory to last forever. Good Friday to all on CQN. Happy Easter.

Thanks to CRC for linking to the Facebook page of Our MATE MICK last night (I’m not on Facebook anymore myself)

Mick and his wife Caroline are extremely grateful for the on going support they are receiving from all over the world and if anybody can look in on the CQN Facebook page you will see Carolines (slightly emotional) Thank You speech at a recent fundraiser in Oz.

As she says herself, without the support they continue to receive, they would have been forced to abandon their dream and return home to social welfare by now.

Ryan said to me after Dublin that CCB was his favourite person he met. Ryan loves to listen and learn fae wise older folk. He said that when he is your age and I am Pat’s age, that we still have the same bond as you and your dad have. His second fave CQNr is Jamesgang btw.

You and I bombed oot. :))

  24. I see NFL is punting John McGin: ““He has a price. I think in this day and age, £5million would cover it. I value him very highly, as we all do here, and we won’t sell ourselves short if the bids come in for him.

If I was a manager somewhere else, I would be having a right good look at him.”

At £5M I wouldn’t. More expensive than Sinclair or Ntcham? Not for me.

Compare their record (and a home grown Calum McGregor): Ntcham – 27 appearances with 6 goals (1 in 4.5); McGinn 37 appearances with 6 goals (1 in 6.2). Calum McGregor – 40 appearances with 8 goals (1 in 5). Scott Sinclair 45 appearances with 7 goals (1 in 2.4 in a slump)

McGinn would be a £2M squad player – vastly over rated.

He will sign for a English championship side.

Aye it was for you mate.Got a wee bit mixed up there..again.Mate my mums 83 in May and still works for Celtic..started in 1967 so 50years last year.

  27. Lenny is always going to talk up his player, and in today’s market down south, if he had a couple of years left on his contract, then £5m is a feasible figure. However, he only has one year on his contract so his value immediately drops. If Celtic want him, Celtic will get him, probably around £2.5m + Scott Allan.

  28. Delaneys Dunky on

    VFR

We have Scott Allan as makeweight if we go for the BankieBhoy. As I said on Tuesday I would pay no more than £2.5m for J McG.

£2m plus Scott Allan would be fair price for a bhoy with one year left on his contract.
