Just. Change. Nothing.

756

Can we all just agree to change nothing?  I know it was a dead rubber and I know it’s different playing against a 10 man defence, but honestly, just, change, nothing.

We had a defender at the right side of defence, not a frustrated winger.  That subtly rebalanced the team; Kristoffer Ajer (22) was not 20 yards further upfield to connect to a Mohamed Elyounoussi pass, but he was back to provide cover and balance to the two to his left.

Christopher Jullien and Shane Duffy had their most assured game together – although Shane, you were never winning that ball, you should have shown the player down the line instead of committing to the foul.  It was a mistake that would have been sore on another day.

David Turnbull (21) got one goal, one assist and got the assist for the penalty.  That is an incredible return for a player who has been sitting in the stand or out through illness all season.

After a couple of substitute appearances in 11 months at the club, Ismaila Soro (22) made his starting debut and was even more influential than Turnbull to the flow of Celtic’s play.  The deep lying central midfield player has several jobs: protect the defence, intercept opposition moves, get the ball forward quickly and accurately.  A lot of off the ball work is also required; the best in the business are in position to stop moves before an interception is required.  Ismaila did all of this very well.

Like Soro, the lack of opportunities afforded to Patryk Klimala (22) made me think he was less effective than our other strikers have been recently.  Apparently not.  Patryk is all about movement.  He can take a ball, bring others into play and – effectively last night – win corner kicks.  At no time did he try to beat three players on his own, take note, Odsonne.

After THAT pass at Tynecastle in 2019 you may have wondered what happened to Ewan Henderson (20).  The player had a lost 18 months but, like the rest of the midfield last night, he was on his game.  He was tidy and intelligent in possession.  Use him.

The biggest compliment to the midfield and defence is that Conor Hazard (22) had little to do.  Blameless at either goal, he got a foot to a dangerous ball, handled and distributed well throughout.

I don’t know who deserved the win more, the players, the manager or you and me, no doubt someone has been busy running a poll on the subject…..  Onto Sunday!

Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles, is available now.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  1. Lets just see if NFL & Co, & I mean everyone @ our Club, can turn this so far nightmare Season around.

The Board have stated, that they will back NFL & Co, until the turn of the New Year, lets see if we are

moving in the right direction, instead of going back the way.

IMO, Soro can play a holding players position in midfield, with DT getting forward too support our

Strikers, & also having a shot on goal as well. DT should also be assigned to take the corner kicks &

also free kicks as well. Please, not Ryan Christie who’s corners are either too short, or too long, &

his free kicks are poor as well. Calmac should be given more of a rest, on the bench cause Calmac

is never a midfield holding player, & he also looks knackered, playing too many matches, put Calmac

on the Bench, & give him more Rest Time. Ewan Henderson played well the other night, he should

be given more game/match time on the Feild. What happened to K.Dembelie? The young Bhoy,

should be given more of a chance to play. The young tall Goalkeeper, should also be given more

game time between the sticks. After all, Bartas & Bain, have not exactly set the heather on fire

inbetween the sticks. Changes need to be made, which is a fact.

Is the PRE-match protest tomorrow a good idea?

    Should it:

    a) Go ahead as planned;

    b) Be postponed;

    c) Be cancelled.

    —————

    Brilliant question HS. Respect.

    100% should go ahead.

    A group of players …..

… short on form and confidence

    … arriving at Celtic Park

.. before a must win game

Will surely be galvanized by the sight of a group of protesters.

No chance of the protest distracting or negatively impacting the morale of individuals or the unit.

    Nothing can go wrong.

Funny replies, thanks. To be honest, I’ve had it twice and cleared the plate, but I did feel like I overate. Recently been getting a couple of rolls n sqwerr with tattie scone and onion, that does me fine.

    HH

DBhoy, it’s better to leave the Dinner/Scan Table, feeling that one can eat that little bit more, than being

totally stuffed, where is that Bed to lye down, or go for long walks to exercise the food down.

Yeah try three rolls of square sausage & tatty scones, instead of two, that should keep you going for a

few hours each day, & wash the rolls down with a nice big cup of rosey-lee (Tea) enjoy.

    Hail Hail & Come-On-The-Bhoys & Ghirls.

If we drop any points v killie there will be a very different kind of protest after the game . Especially if the manager resorts to the old guard in his team selection .

  7. My friends in Celtic,

If the protest goes ahead prior to a must win game, I hope there is a socially distanced counter protest supporting Celtic.

It is very noticeable that the protest has evolved from the original concept of ” Lennon, Lennon GTF and chasing and shouting abuse at our players buses.

Rightly there has been a backlash so the parameters have changed to a more acceptable and sleeket ” Sack the board “theme.

    HH.

  8. Norriem

No criticism intended. That’s the great thing about this. People see things very differently. And differing opinions are always welcome.

It would be a bland world if we all agreed all the time.

  9. glendalystonsils

If the banners are anything to go by it wont the ‘old guard’ we will be needing…

    It’ll be an armed guard….

Yeah, I remember Bobby Petta’s nice delivery, to the back post for Stan The Man to slam the

ball into Old Co’s Tax Dodging Net, in the 6-2 match, well done Bobby-P

  11. Go tell the Spartim on

People can protest if they like after all it’s their prerogative, to start blaming them for loss or morale of players etc is frankly ridiculous.

As someone had suggested what if they applauded the team when the bus arrived……

If no one ever stood up progress would never had been made in any walk of life

  12. Re:-https://youtu.be/MhAVkV02Nww

Yeah, what’s with the photoshop green circle effect, in the YouTube posters glasses?

Is that meant to be funny? I’m sure the same YouTube poster, will in the near future,

be making the same suggestions, when slippery G, who is working his ticket, will

head off to new pastors down south, into Engurland, that’s for sure.

  13. FRIESDORFER on 12TH DECEMBER 2020 12:59 PM

The Lennon, Lennon, GTF was nothing to do with the Celtic Trust. Conflation rules…

    HH

    ——————

That was the start and the focus of the original protest. No.?

Nothing personal to anyone involved and please don’t take the wording literally but an old proverb springs to mind. ” If you lie with dogs.”

  14. If NL is looking for any inspiration before the game on Sunday he should show them the clip BBC football focus ran this morning about Paolo Rossi discussing the World Cup final….Both very humbling and motivational.

  15. The sack the Board comments @ present, is ridiculous, that is like asking Turkeys, to vote for Thanks Given Day & Christmas, it’s not going to happen. Celtic are a PLC, (Public Limited Company) the only way it can be changed, is if we can buy out most of the shares, end of matter & a fact. The Board owns most of the shares, & is full of Bankers/Business Men/& Old Pals Act, which is another fact.

Their are rumours going around, that Sevco are in another tax dodging mess for ‘x’ amount of pounds.

Yeah we have heard this all before. Our Board @ a past AGM, said that they would still hire Parks of Hamilton Coaches, as our Team Bus, even though & when one considers, that the Parks of Hamilton Owner, is on the Sevco Board, old pals act. Also, I’ve noticed via YouTube via Smivdee ‘On The Road’ Yep Back Again, Foootballl uploads, that our Club is also linked with Utilities, who are also linked with Sevco International FC, more old pals act. & when Sevco where working their way back into the SPL, Peter Lawwell was moaning his head off, which effected his overall bonus, that we as a Club where losing two & a half million pounds, with Sevco not being in the SPL, he was sending them get well soon Cards. I’ve also heard a rumour that, PL is offski @ the end of this Season, after being associated with our Club, for around nineteen years, if you take into consideration that PL was also @ our Club when the Kelly’s & Whites where @ the helm. Yeah Peter is drifting off into the Sunset, onto Paradise Island, (The Bahamas) drinking pinna coladdas, yeah forget a heated driveway, that’s old news, enjoying his financial nest eggs, in the millions of pounds, thanks to all of us, apparently Dermot Desmond Son, who needs to top up his Bank Balance as well, is taking his place.

Wait, Deja Vu, we have all heard this rumour before, time will tell on that one/matter, we will see.

  16. Zlatan is the man!…

“It’s not just about the last few months but about a problem that people have been talking about for a very long time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns in this interview. I think my sport, football, is where you connect all people from all these parts of the world into one. So I’m saying football is a religion, and everyone is welcome. ”

He talks about racism in sport…

Was stuck in meetings most of Thursday and subsequently missed our best performance of the season. Can’t find goals or highlights anywhere online. Anyone have a link?

  18. Henry Joy If Lennon reverts to the tried and trusted ,then that tells you he isn’t to be trusted for the rest of the season,to tell you the truth he isn’t a tactician or a Coach.

  23. 100 Years ago today, the Black & Tans burned Cork City to the ground in reprisals for IRA attacks in particular the Kilmichael Ambush which had taken place 2 weeks earlier.

Over 300 hundred buildings were burned including most on the Main Shopping Street & in particular the Cork City Hall which contained the City Library.

Many Historic books, Manuscripts & City records were destroyed and the Tans fired on firemen & citizens who attempted to fight the fires & rescue the records & manuscripts.

My Mother was a wee child in Cork at the time but to her dying day she remembered the Burning & the shock & anger of the older generation..

We won our freedom & rebuilt our City, all my family were renowned Stone Masons & my GrandFather & his brothers worked on the major Building restorations in particular the Cork City Hall which was built on the ruined site of old City Hall some 15 years later.

Today is a poignant but proud day for all Cork people.

So forgive me for intruding with my wee History lesson.
