Key decision of the year for Neil Lennon

1418

If you thumb through the pages of the Celtic Quick News comments section you’ll find a couple of overlapping areas of indifferent form being reported.  One for Beram Kayal and one for the team as a whole.  You’ll also note several contributors commenting that Beram’s form improved after his new contract was signed, settling speculation surrounding the player.

It may be coincidental that Beram’s form seemed to pick up after his future was settled but the fact that this happened a few days after the pivotal 3-3 draw at Kilmarnock suggests a whole lot of what has been going right at Celtic was linked to the Israeli’s form in this crucial central midfield area.

Neil Lennon has a huge tactical decision to make.  Get it wrong and he will not be able to replicate the impressive run of 10 consecutive wins.  Before making a decision, a good place to research would be videos of Celtic’s run up to and including that Kilmarnock game.  Knowing some of the things to avoid is a good start.

I posted this with a link the other night, it might be something you would be interested in for long term fundraising, I saw it in one of my community groups, but if we applied it to a group like CQN I think it could provide a fund for charitable donations. I have emailed Paul67 about it. Free money you cant beat it.

    Paul67, Auldheid Sanna.

I have just been dealing with a Community group in my area and that brought a fundraising method to my attention that I thought was quite good, you guys might have heard of it. I have posted the link below.

It essentially is a scheme you sign up to if you use the internet to purchase goods, if you go through through this site before you make your purchase, then these companies will make a donation to your organisation or charity.

I thought this might be useful if we wanted to create a CQN charity fund we could make donations to The Kano Foundation or any other worthy cause we think is deserving.

The community group I am involved is not particularly large but they made over £400 over the Christmas period.

I know Auldheid is working on a membership scheme but I thought this is something else we could look at because it is free money and it sits well with our charitable ethos.

This is the first time I have tried the link creator here goes

  3. For those discussing which type of sparkling wine/cider/whatever to toast the huns going bust I suggest you don’t celebrate too soon.

Wait to see what happens with the newco huns.

If they’re allowed straight into the SPL with Celtic’s connivance then it will have been a Pyrrhic victory.

And the deal will have been done while everyone is busy celebrating.

  4. Afternoon bhoys, the sun is out, and it’s hun free as ever.

So Drysdales tweet was a wee bit premature by the looks of it.

    ernie,

The hun going to the wall will be cause for celebration in this cave that’s for sure, as for newhunco, that will take care of itself, be it what we expect or not.

  6. Catching up with some of the political stuff from last night.

    Two things stick out –

The number of people who believe big government is now the problem and the number of people who believe that Scottish independence is the way forward.

On the first point big, sorry bigger government has brought us fresh water, clean air, increasing child survival rates, better and more comprehensive medical services, rising standards of living and economic and educational progression for the many not the few.

As the right wing, dog boiling mentalists in the ConDemNation have proved, this state of affairs is not a given, it may have been won in the last 150 years but it can be lost in a flash if it is not defended.

We live in very interesting times, we are currently having a re-run of the 1930’s without understanding the lessons of that decade or having a political establishment to put them into practice.

Last nights high drama over the thoughts and utterances of a “ratings agency” over the economic futures of several large and sophisticated states tells you all you need to know about the madness now engulfing the world.

Maybe DI was right all along.

Maybe we are being manipulated by a super race of lizards in drag.

The human race is currently behaving like experimental rats in a lab.

Things are mental and unfortunately they are getting worse.

I would suggest that any such deal with the spl-sfa could and must be legally challenged.

We need to keep a little bit aside to help fund a fight against any dodgy arrangment that lets them off the hook for their cheating.

One thing most seem to in agreement about is they will suffer an event not to their liking.

Now whether that event is as many want will be up for discussion when the time comes, but they will have to live within their means for a time, and that with all it entails is worth waithing for.

The referees are the priority imo.

I will wager now that they will get MIB help today, they can’t help themselfs.

As for their euro licence the last few years, I’m surprised that more people are not grasping the fact that their players were paid by an outside agency through the EBT scheme, which is against uefa’s regs.

Off oot to the market, laters.

Francisco Sandaza has rejected the offer of a pre-contract agreement from Rangers, according to St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist confirmed on Friday that an approach had been made for the 27-year-old Spaniard.

However, Lomas told BBC Scotland that the forward wants to wait until his contract expires in the summer before deciding where his future lies.

Sandaza has scored 12 goals for St Johnstone this season.

    More to follow.

Ooooops Ally, looks like you can’t even sign a free from St Johnstone.

Yesterday we put up the first of our questions about Celtic’s history over on the CQN Facebook page. Sadly no-one answered it, but over here on Celtic Quick News Kayal33 did. The question related to our very first season, when we reached the Scottish Cup Final. We asked what goalscoring feat Celtic achieved, setting a club record which still stands to this day. Kayal33 rightly said it was the most goals Celtic has ever scored …in a season in the Scottish Cup, although he didn’t have the magic number. He rightly pointed out that before clubs played a league calendar the Scottish Cup was a longer tournament. In that season, our first, don’t forget, we scored 37 Scottish Cup goals, and in all our history since that record still stands, and probably always will.

They were scored, as follows; Shettleston were beaten at home 5-1; Cowlairs were beaten at home 8-0; Albion Rovers was beaten at home 4-1; St. Bernards Edinburgh were beaten 4-1 away; Clyde were destroyed 9-2 at home; East Stirling were dispatched 2-1 in the quarter finals away; Dumbarton were beaten 4-1 in the semi and in the final, at “second Hampden”, we lost 2-1 to Third Lanark for a total of 37 goals scored and 9 condeced along the way.

The Celtic team that day was John Kelly, Gallagher, McKeown, W Maley, James Kelly, McLaren, McCallum, Dunbar, Groves, Coleman, T Maley. The goal was scored by McCallum.

It was a special achievement, to reach a cup final in the very first season of our existence, but then that’s Celtic for you, a special club who have been setting records since the begining.

It was to be a couple of years – in 1890/91 – before Celtic participated in a league tournament. That season, we finished third. Today’s question is simple, or so it seems. Who was our first league game against?

  18. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

I seen the ConDemNation supported by the Right Wing,Dog Boiling Mentalists at the Ole Burns Howf, talk about wasting time n money? No wonder the place went to the wall.

  19. Second thing that caught my eye was the many and varied reasons people have on here for supporting Scottish independence.

Given my viewpoint – ultra unionist –

If the 26 counties would have stopped Maggie from ever coming to power then sorry MC get out the 1880’s devolution proposals and be done with it / Glasgow has more in common with Belfast, Liverpool, Newcastle, the Black country … than it has with Salt ‘n Sauce land and it’s ties to Dublin, Bristol, Cambridge and the City of London.

… so I have many reasons not to support Wee Eck and his children’s crusade towards the Holy Grail of “Devo Max” – which in time will lead to England wanting it’s own independence.

However the main disconnect that jumps out at me is the fact that the considered opinion on sees the need for the club to get into the EPL just as a sizeable minority want political independence. Bit of a disconnect to me but hey ho it makes sense to some people.

Another point that does worry me is the desire for independence after all the events of the past 5 years that show only too clearly how the political and judicial system can be highjacked to put pressure on the victims and not the perpetrators or the wider viewpoints that support and encourage them.

The concept of the “Edinburgh Jury” has now passed into Scottish folklore.

It is only the start as an East coast establishment try to re-Tartanise Scotland.

One point that did surprise me was the hope that Scottish Independence would generate another Scottish Enlightenment as it was a simple exercise to link the two.

The details / context seem to be forgotten all too easily –

    The influence of 1707.

    The influence of 1745.

The hatred of the Highland clan system.

    The pre-industrial environment.

The desire for a more continental outlook.

The mono-cultural / religious outlook of the lowlands.

Does anyone really want to re-create this PIT view of Scotland?

  20. Ordered my CQN magazine yesterday afternoon. It just popped through the door 5 minutes ago…noo that’s service :O).

Looks smashing too. Anyway, got a train to catch for Paradise, will enjoy it later, “C’mon you Bhoys in green”.

  21. BRTH,

Your blog this morning about the difficult choices facing the chairman of other clubs if Rankers go under raises an interesting point about markets and regulations.

Now , more than ever, industries are facing increased exposure to ‘regulators’ trying to ensure there is regulation and compliance . The Leveson inquiry is a prime example, and the financial pages are regularly filled with fortune 500, FTSE 100s , being fined or punished for anti – trust / ‘non ethical ‘ behaviour.

One of the key considerations in any potential vote about re-entry , will be about the ‘ corporate reputation ‘ of Scottish Football. Any vote or decision which does not address this issue, or leaves questions unanswered, or a slight on the industry ‘s governance , will also have a halo effect on the wider industry.

It could be argued that the current reputation, is poor, and with that I would agree to a certain extent ie amongst supporters

However, when it comes to bodies like the competition authorities they haven’t traditionally looked at football. An industry with a tarnished reputation may well be of interest to those wishing to understand why prices at so many clubs are so similar, and go up or down by similar amounts.

If the governing bodies do allow unpunished re-entry, then by default it will be a league which is tarnished and likely to draw much more attention from Government regulators.

As I said, and , as you imply , any decisions are about the long term reputation of Scottish Football and not merely when is our next tranche of Rangers fans gate money.
