Kilmarnock don’t enjoy Celtic Park

575

Kilmarnock don’t enjoy visits to Celtic Park, winning only once there since 1955, but seldom have they been on the receiving end of such a humiliating result from such a young and inexperienced Celtic team. You and I have seen these games – especially in the League Cup – go wrong so many times in recent seasons: Morton, Falkirk and Partick, to name just three.

What we have at the club now is energy and purpose that makes even our experiments seem potent. Brendan Rodgers must have been delighted at what he got from his players.

For some, like Leigh Griffiths, it was another hour nearer full fitness. These minutes are crucial in preparation for the almighty test of the season against Astana at Celtic Park one week from today.

Really pleased Roy Aitken will be around Celtic Park more often in future in his new role as Club Ambassador.  Roy was a huge figure at Celtic in the 70s and 80s, but there’s at least one generation since who know little about him.

we had a family christening on sunday, with the afters held at the port glasgow golf club.

to be fair, its the only sensible venue left up the hill, so on we go.

nice wee afternoon, my brother in law goes out round the corner to the smoking area, i follow out, for a yap, nice view up the hill.

there is a tap on the window, from the members lounge, as someone inside recognises my brother in law. oh its so and so, we worked in fergusons together, he comes out through some patio doors, direct access for the members,

i recognise the guy, old school hun, from slaemuir, maybe in his late 70’s now.

brother in law and him have a wee chat. he says mick let me get you a drink. i will leave one at the bar for you. he goes back in the patio doors. and closes them.

what a lot of pompous shit.

  2. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

We haven’t moved in a bit, Cowiebhoy…… we sit next to an old pal from pre-GB days in 111 when the two seats next to him are vacant (most times last season). We are actually CC 21 and 22 and daughter No. 1 joins from her seat if there is a vacant seat.

No idea where we will be for Astana game..got the dreaded letter

BTW, have been watching for Maradonic(sp) posting to thank him for info re lift at Exec. Stand area. It was the Bog’s Dollix!

Missed last night as ‘banned’ by they who must be obeyed… they had to wait 20 minutes for me after Hearts game!

The person responsible responsible responsible for the assault chose to carry it out despite the personal, if caught, consequences. The Green Brigade chose in full knowledge of the harm they were doing g to Celtic to act in the manner they did.

  4. Owen

The person who committed last night’s assault will have been fully aware of their actions both personally and for Celtic.

I simply asked what would Celtic have done had this happened in the standing section.

    Your thoughts?

  5. I’m delighted that, Roy Aitken is back at Celtic, this is a long overdue move from Celtic.

I wish Roy and Celtic, every success for the future.

Roy will probably also be pleased that, myself and my ‘mole’ of almost, 40 years service, have retired from journalism now, so, both he, and Celtic, will no longer have sleepless nights, worrying about, the cage rattling effectiveness of our often, revealing columns and, informative sports programs on both, TV and radio.

Good luck Roy and, Celtic fans.

    Gerry McNee.

  6. While we are looking at the Dunfermline 2003 result….. can anyone remember the record for Motherwell vs Huns during Stuart ‘Mullet’ McCall’s reign ( not rein :-) ?

If i remember correctly they used to run up cricket scores and when ‘Well played us it was do or die.

Top of head, in one season no wins for Well and something like 24-3 goal difference. Will have to check that now.

Always bothered me at the time.

  7. Far too many “responsibles” in my last post.

    HT

If someone lights a fag in an area in Celtic Park are you going to equate that with the Green Brigade deliberately incurring a fine for Celtic because their political principles out weigh their loyalty to Celtic.

It is easy to be a hard line Republican 20 years after the ceasefire, it was less fun growing up in the north. Using the image of men actually prepared to put their lives where their political principles lay is an awful lot easier from Glasgow. I suppose.

  8. I didn’t say they would have thought about Celtic I said they would however have been aware.

    Ffs, desperate.

  9. Owen

Do you have anything to back up your assertion that politics prevails over Celtic for the GB? The thing is that not just the GB but many, especially younger Celtic supporters, would pish themselves at that comment.

Whether you or anyone agrees or disagrees, the GB believe that their political displays are the politics of Celtic.

I missed Linfield at home but I’ve heard that in excess of 40,000 sang The Broad Black Brimmer.

    Your thoughts?

  10. Delaneys Dunky on

    HT

I was astounded at the Linfield game. The south stand were on their feet belting out The Broad Black Brimmer and Sean South along with The Irish National Anthem. The songs and UVF flags in the away end, seemed to stir something in the Main Stand crowd and the rest of us in the Stadium that night.

    No. They were not aware.

Yes they were. Their actions are abhorrent but they’ll have been completely of the repercussions.

    Anyways, offski.

Have you ever heard of Aristotle?

    ‘Man is a political animal’

    Does that register at all?

Read their statement. They said that they took the action they did in the full knowledge that it would bring sanctions against them and the club. They also said their political ideals took precedence over the consequences of their actions.

I’m not making it up, I may be a board apologist and back of the bus old firmist but I can read.

  15. The Green….

    Of course it does….

Not the same thing at all…..

Except in the sense everything is ‘political’.

    You just contradicted yourself.

Celtic were formed by ‘politics’, it will never leave us.

  17. Owen

Last night the club played Let the People Sing over the tannoy system whilst a section of our support were banned for displaying a banner representing those very thoughts. It’s a bastardised version that doesn’t mention Cromwell from the true lyrics.

    I find the irony disgusting.

‘Except in the sense everything is ‘political’.

    Yes, precisely my point.

    Everything is political.

So, how can you keep politics out of anything?

    HH

  19. Ok; it’s just me who is interested.

    McCall tenure at Motherwell.

    Over seasons 2010/11 to 2011/12

    Vs Huns -3-27 – 8 games

    Vs Us – 4- 15 – 8 games

    Obviously no anomaly to report.

  20. The Green and DD…..

I think we are agreeing but from different standpoints

There is no field of debate if ‘everything is political’.

If Celtic was formed by politics it means so was the original Rangers or Queens Park or Dundee or Forfar Athletic.

I don’t recognise having contradicted myself but if so it wouldn’t be the first time :-)

Just saw Trumps ‘fire and fury’ comment.

Is this the same crap as May’s ‘strong and stable’ soundbite. Pair of fake leaders. Scary these village idiots are in charge of two nuclear arsenals. Think Petec is correct. End Days.

  22. HT

You equated an assault in the corporate area with the actions of the Green Brigade, who mentioned songs.

It’s an awful lot easier to sing about telling a Brit “go on home.” than it is to meet them on a dark street on your way home. Or to have a RUC man point a “non lethal” weapon at you because you are not going to move any further away from the railway tracks the Orange Order trains are about to pass by than said cop thinks you should.

Celtic give me immense joy and pride. They are not my political conscience or my moral compass. I do not need political instruction from wannabe “ultras”. I grew up in a political environment, I can make my own mind up without their help.

  23. Delaneys Dunky on

    Owen

Respect for that post to HT.

I have never walked in your shoes.

Being born in a loyalist Partick street where we were the token Tim family, was close enough for me.:)

Acccording to Aristotle to be human is to be political, its unavoidable.

We can then go for a drive to meet Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Marx, and so on:)

We cant keep politics out of anything, its our nature.

It looks like we will have 7, yes seven games in September.

Hamilton (A) on the 8th, Ross County (H) on the 16th, Sevco (A) on the 23rd, Hibs (H) on the 30th.

A Betfred cup visit to Dundee on either 19/20/21.

Then there are two CL Group Stage games scheduled for September.

Health allowing a wee visit home may be appropriate.
