Kilmarnock don’t enjoy Celtic Park

575

Kilmarnock don’t enjoy visits to Celtic Park, winning only once there since 1955, but seldom have they been on the receiving end of such a humiliating result from such a young and inexperienced Celtic team. You and I have seen these games – especially in the League Cup – go wrong so many times in recent seasons: Morton, Falkirk and Partick, to name just three.

What we have at the club now is energy and purpose that makes even our experiments seem potent. Brendan Rodgers must have been delighted at what he got from his players.

For some, like Leigh Griffiths, it was another hour nearer full fitness. These minutes are crucial in preparation for the almighty test of the season against Astana at Celtic Park one week from today.

Really pleased Roy Aitken will be around Celtic Park more often in future in his new role as Club Ambassador.  Roy was a huge figure at Celtic in the 70s and 80s, but there’s at least one generation since who know little about him.

I once met Bobby Lennox and got his autograph outside Mass in Saltcoats. I was 5.

He asked me my name, I told him Garry. He said that was his son’s name and signed my paper to Gary, one R. Was devastated my hero spelt my name wrong. :)

  9. On a Celtic serious note……….Roy Aitken is and will be remembered for many of his wonderful displays wearing the Hoops, and rightly so…….my own favourite BEAR moment was obviously in the 4-2 game in 1979……but especially for you youngsters….just watch Roy Aitkens brilliant role in the 1985 Cup Final….when the big yin chased a lost cause, and delivered a very sweet cross which Frankie MacGarvey bulleted home for the winner….Roy at his best.

Was that you who posted as “Gerry McNee” last night? I know it wasn’t the real Gerry NcNee as the post didnt a) mention Jimmy McGrory’s medal at any point; b) feature an attack on the song, the Fields of Athenry; and c) double as a love letter to Brian Laudrup.

  12. Big Jimmy.

Two fav Big Roy moments for me.

His two goals at Ibrox in a 2 each game. They have there scarves up singing UDA all the way etc, Big Roy buries one, scarves down quick as a flash, just magic.

The other one was the cup final when we beat them 1.0 We have a free kick in the dying seconds on the touchline at the Celtic/Kings Park end. Big Roy takes the free kick and boots it as,hard as he can into the Celtic end, to allow us to regroup and run the clock down. Just magic again.

As I said yesterday, I’m delighted he’s now an ambassador for the club and I think it’s appropriate.

Hamilton Tim raises a very valid question.

Two ‘incidents’ happened inside the ground, one in the Green Brigade section, and one in the Hospitality Brigade section.

The incident in hospitality was a far more serious incident than a cartoon banner in 111.

Before we got to the bottom of the banner issue in 111, the entire GB section were banned.

Before we get to the bottom of the issue in hospitality, does the same apply?

  20. Roberts is going to cost Celtic around £4m for one season between loan fee and wages. Makes little sense, sadly. My guess is that the negotiation on that will go the wire. Lawwell has everything to gain by delaying and getting this down if he can. Not sure what pressure he’s getting from Brendan re Astana game. Little I imagine as Forrest was preferred in Europe anyway, better at tracking back, Paddy the impact sub but Rogic may provide that. Then post qualification for CL or Europa work with a more strategic budget. Rodgers will know if he forces it he’ll probably win but pretty much uses this year’s budget.

Maybe the analogy would be more pertinent were it the case that the Hospitality Brigade had a History of `unacceptable` behaviour.

I am a big fan of the GB even though I sometimes think the rest of us leave it up to them to offer support for our team. I would like GB`s all over the ground.

Not sure if there is any validity to the £4 million for a season claim. Seems a tad expensive for one season as, as you say, we have James Forrest there already and Jonny Hayes as back-up.

There may be a significant case to be made that no place should be able to declare itself a politics free zone. However the idea that an organised and persistent flouting of rules, as they stand, should be treated the same as a lone score settling is preposterous. It weakens the argument and makes those who support it look stupid.

Thanks to Lennybhoy and belatedly to Catman for updates, bit of positive transfer news is always welcome.

Still miffed as to why BR said he’d probably try for a CB at the end of last season but now thats changed, hopefully this is down to young Ajer stepping up to the plate.

I think the point is that it is folly to punish an entire section.

Celtic know who the Green Brigade are, organisers and all.

There was no need to punish nearly 1000 people, just as it would have been ridiculous to ban every hospitality punter.

A lot of the discussion is around the £4m number with no return to Celtic – other than having a fantastic entertaining player for a year of course. Not sure how accurate the £4m is – I read the loan fee was £2.75m or thereabouts. Either way, it’s a lot to pay for a player for 12 months loan. I suspect that you are correct that PL will attempt to convince that the deal only makes sense if PR becomes a Celtic player rather than an loan. Think we’d all prefer that! :-))
