King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

Ah mean, since McCann got the keys, Celtic FC from executive level up, has been a, never ending, conveyor belt of serpents !!!

Ye see, if yeez want, stolen trophies stripped……..well, ah think yeez need to get a board that izny full of serpents, first of all.

    Its a bit lie this….

The only way that the British will get a decent brexit, will be if Jeremy Corbyn is doing the negotiation.

The only difference is, Jeremy would be going into a, negotiation, not a confrontation.

Yet, with Celtic PLC, it will be the opposite.

Ah don’t hold much hope, especially when the same PLC, strapped themselves onto the back seat at the bus for the, Tonev hearing.

  4. If the young French player is to be a replacement for Armstrong and Hayes supplanting Roberts, then I’m not sure that improves us from last year. Boyata’s pace provided insurance at the back and that will be missing for 3-months. But things can change ; Armstrong may sign and Roberts may even return . But I trust Celtic are well on top of transfers in and out and by end-August be will be better ( quality wise) than we were last season. Europe ups the ante and I know BR fully recognises that. I hope Pete and the executives do.

Celtic… the players, the management, the board, were all prepared to go to court to support Aleksandar Tonev. They were prepared to fight a guilty verdict based on the lunacy of ‘balance of probability’. They, the Celtic PLC were prepared to fight, they were prepared to do almost anything.

It was Aleksandar Tonev himself who called a halt to it.

To this day I believe the bhoy had no case to answer but then you know the SFA…

Even when 3 Court of Session Judges and 5 Supreme Court Judges declare Rangers guilty of Tax evasion, and with the hidden side letters, that is what it was, the balance of probability litmus test was discarded by the SFA, and the SFA even boasted, even taunted, to Scotland, and at Scotland, that the Rangers cheating is officially endorsed by them and you might as well just suck it up and you can all go and fill our (the SFA Jolly fund) coffers.

Has Campbell Ogilvie bought any new Mediteranian beach front properties lately….

And if it happens again… we’ll shaft you again. And the huns that didn’t really die will continue as the world’s most successful club. Because without challenge… that is what they are. In the SFA’s eyes at least.

  7. Good measured stuff from Graham Spiers…

Think he was correct in stating what he did about the Title Stripping…

    A. ‘Cause it’s his opinion

    B. We shouldn’t get too hung up on the outcome of any Review or Inquiry.

Ron Bicardi was correct, for me the Oldco/Newco issue is more important, we can all move on 2001-2011, 2012 & 2013 even 2017. But if Sevco continue to pose as Rangers we have an ongoing problem.

This to me is a straight forward matter of Governance but if you accept the Goodies vs the Baddies scenario let’s put it in the context of a chess game.

During a game, high level players look at the pieces on the board, work out 10+ moves ahead and the multitude of permutations then suddenly, for the uninitiated, a player who could take one of his opponents major pieces inexplicably resigns.

Of course for us, who play the game at a more basic level, when we get to the resigning stage we look at our handful of options and realise, we’re stuffed, no matter what move we make.

That is the position Mr Regan and Mr Doncaster are in.

If the process continues as it should, they have the option (move) of sticking with the Continuity Myth and all Sanctions from Rangers wrongdoing would be imposed upon Sevco… Could be financial, points, titles, expulsion etc etc

There other option (move), to revisit the 5 way agreement, tear it up, Sanction the Old Club and state what UEFA and everyone knows, that New Rangers are a separate Club.

So in a chess simile they can only lose, thats why they want to walk away from the “Game” and call it a draw – they were manipulated by the Grand Masters who could forsee this scenario long ago…

    CHAIRBHOY:

Didn’t Charles Green. after signing the 5 way agreement, declare it an illegal document and went to court against theSFA (and I think won) with regards the signing ban?

  9. A STOR MHA CHROI @ 9:32 AM,

Not sure, will try and check…

    My recollection though…

Charles Green had accepted the 5 way agreement, whether he signed it or not I don’t know.

He actually equated it to joining a Golf Club and Paying your Green Fees…

Now of course that’s when the “players” were confident of getting Sevco Scotland into the SPL.

That of course didn’t transpire, he wasn’t about to take the agreed Sanctions for a Berth in fourth tier Football.

Stoke Pouges Fees to play in Farnham Park…

So he renegotiated… could well have resulted in Court… it’s a very good point though, sanctions negotiated BEFORE the Inquiry.

  11. CultsBhoy - Believes in Brendan on

The more I mull over the titlebstripping carry on the more I return to the position that it’s kind of academic. Nobody, even the most fervent Hun in their heart of hearts can deny the dodgy nature of titles won during the rigged campaigns.in some ways that’s the important thing..their story will never be forgotten given they were liquidated. That’s inescapable. Retaining titles is a mere desperate massaging of self delusion.

I know, you know, they know.

The other comfort I draw is that we all know going forward the only team to break records will be Celtic..it’s not if but when in terms of titles. The more titles they believe they have the better as it extends the period of agony as they watch their pride slowly being eroded with every campaign. Death by a thousand cuts as opposed to more suddenly blunter blow.

As I’ve said earlier asterisks solution the likely compromise.

  12. Sounds like the new guy is competition for Rogic as the No. 10…….

BRENDAN RODGERS has been searching for a new Celtic No 10 since he took over last year.

In French kid Olivier Ntcham, it looks like he may finally have found one.

The Hoops boss is chasing a £4million deal for the powerful Manchester City kid who idolises Paul Pogba and Zinedine Zidane.

The France Under-21 star spent the last two seasons on loan at Genoa but could now head to Parkhead.

Rodgers wants power and strength in that key No 10 role and Ntcham insists he fits the bill.

He said: “I can play deep in midfield and recover the ball but I prefer to be in the offensive areas where you need to be decisive.

“The position of the playmaker, the No 10, suits me the best. This is where I get most pleasure.

“In football, my inspiration is Zinédine Zidane. When you’re French, you’re obliged to feel like that.

“He is French football. In 2006, when I saw him play at the World Cup it was a magical moment.

“For me, Pogba is an example to follow. Everyone follows his trajectory and I hope to do better than him.

“I met Pogba when I played against him for Genoa v Juventus.

“We’d never had the opportunity to meet before then and he told me he’d often been told about me in relation to his journey.

“He also told me to keep going like this and not to let go.

“I also had the chance to rub shoulders with Yaya Toure at Man City and it was really impressive.”

Ntcham has been tipped for the top from the moment he quit Le Havre for City in 2012.

The English giants paid £1million for the 16-year-old back then — beating off competition from a host of top clubs.

But football wasn’t Ntcham’s only passion as a kid — with boxing and DANCING his hobbies.

He said: “I grew up in the Paris region. Then at ten years old, I went to Montreal with my mother for two years.

“It was so cold that I mostly played futsal and basketball.

“But I didn’t just play football when I was younger. I was doing hip-hop dancing.

“Then I started football and at the same time I was doing some boxing.

“It was good. I really liked it, especially Mike Tyson.

“After two years, we came back to Paris and I began to play football more and went to Le Havre.”

Scouts soon began to flock to see him — with Ntcham regarded as one of the best products of the club’s famed academy.

Pogba also came through the ranks there but Ntcham was always keen to make his own name.

He said: “Let’s say that when people came to see a game in Le Havre they tended to notice me more because I took more responsibility.

“I took risks and and maybe it made me stand out.

“I cannot say if I was the strongest player but I took a lot of initiative in games.”

City won the race to sign Ntcham in 2012 and the player was developed by another hero — former Etihad youth guru Patrick Vieira.

Ntcham said: “Patrick was very close to the French players and the team in general.

“The advice he gave me is when you’re on a football pitch, you have to give everything.

“But above all you have to pay attention to the small details, because that’s where you can lose or win matches.

“He is a very good person. I like his philosophy, his way of thinking and I see him making a good career as a coach.

“I did three full years in the reserve championship with City.

“When I arrived, I wasn’t developed and I did not understand English. I had to adapt and learn the language.

“My level improved and I began to understand everything I was told.

“I cannot say whether I left France too early or not — but deep down, I do think I made the right decision.

“I have no remorse and I do not regret any of my choices. I listen and I learn the craft.”

Ntcham played over 40 games for Genoa and insists the Serie A experience had matured him as a player and person.

But he was also embroiled in controversy after cops found out he had been driving for YEARS without a licence.

He recently admitted a return to City is “complicated” and stressed that he wouldn’t be happy to play reserve football.

Ntcham said: “You must see things as they are.

“You cannot lie — you need to be ambitious and have no limits.”

Genoa finished just above the relegation zone last year scoring a measly 38 goals in as many matches. It may be the case that Ntcham was only as good as the team he was playing in. When Brendan was Liverpool manager he regularly watched reserve matches so there is a strong chance he would have seen the lad at some point. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the €5m price tag, I would think it will be less but possibly rising. He is friends with Moussa so should be able to settle in quickly.

I have a wee feeling ,against the better teams, especially away from home BR will play Sinclair and Dembele only up front. In Europe,I mean, with a very powerful midfield to back them up.
