Kris, Nielson on opinions, careless cautions

731

Player who has been out since April in shock Uefa squad omission. The only surprise about Kris Commons and Uefa lists is that he was included for the earlier rounds, despite not pulling on a Celtic shirt since April through injury. He was there because there was space on the A list. He’s now been omitted because we signed Scott Sinclair and Brendan Rodgers needed to remove one name to keep his options open for a wildcard.

Kris’ chances of being fit enough to play are less than Patrick Roberts’ so his name came off the list.

I don’t habitually dig up managers at other clubs, but Robbie Nielson is testing the limits of incredulity. When asked about Scott Brown calling Jamie Walker a cheat, he said “If you have got an opinion on anything you are better just keeping it to yourself.”

This is the guy who can’t shut his mouth about referees, including an incident last season when he thought action should have been taken against……. Scott Brown.

Robbie, if you can dish it out but you can’t take it, maybe you are better just keeping your stray opinions to yourself.

We collected four yellow cards at Tynecastle: Gordon, Brown, Dembele and Sinclair. None of them incurred incurred when the ball was in play. Craig Gordon’s was for not going to his line at the Hearts penalty, Moussa Dembele’s was for knocking the ball away, Scott Sinclair’s was for running into the crowd after scoring a debut goal (he’s knew, he should learn, but it’s a clear yellow card) and Scott Brown’s for dissent.

If we’re going to tot up cautions, we should at least do it during play when there is some advantage to be won. Four conceded carelessly off the ball is unusual and could cost us later in the season.

Scott Brown in particular should take note, that was his second caution of the season for dissent, the first coming in Astana. Scott’s a hugely important player to Celtic, previous absences from Europe due to off-the-ball indiscretions should be acting as an inhibitor at this stage of his career.

  1. Moral high ground for Ms Budge’s Gorgie revolution is in fact, just another hole in the ground for of turds.

Appealing against the Walker ban makes no footballing or moral sense.

Due to the appeal he’s now available to play against St Johnstone on Wednesday. Maybe he’ll try to be more convincing with his pirouettes at McDiarmid Park. If he plays it would be high justice if he is yellow carded for simulation.

Morally, Hearts are forever offering advice to anyone on the other end of a camera or microphone.

Nielson’s post match interview – he complaiedt that two bad refereeing decisions cost them the match was priceless.

First was refs failure to be conned by Muirhead’s delayed reaction “best faller” simulation after contact with Toure in the 2nd half.

The Suave Wan said “He gave the penalty in the 1st half, so it’s not consistent.”

Second was refs failure to show Scott Brown 2nd yellow and send him of.

Yes, the same Scott Brown who Nielson berated for offering opinions after the game.

Budge has plenty to say when the targets are Celtic fans, but is strangely silent when Hearts fans behave like Rangers fans. (or as they normally do)

Walker’s appeal may well lead to an even longer suspension.

    Justice for the Gorgie Wan.

If a player dives and it’s unarguable, leading to a penalty and goal then ultimately a playing ban,why isn’t the goal scored from the penalty chopped off?

    Barney …

I am okay with the use of replay in tennis. But Tennis, unlike football, is made up of discrete points that stop and start. Most challenges are made when there would be a natural break in the play anyways.

On the rare occasion when a challenge is made during a point, it is usually on a discrete and non-discretionary issue … was the ball in or out. If the challenge is right, the point is replayed or awarded…. it is very rare (I cant think of an example) where a player has challenged a call successfully mid point, but then the umpire exercises his discretion to say the player wouldn’t have got the ball, so loses the point anyways). Unlike a tennis point, which has a discrete end, a football foul/non-foul cant be ‘replayed’.

Thanks for letting us know how Tommy is doing.

For a normal person that would be a hard thing to recover from but by the sounds of him his spirit is as strong as ever.

I guess you bhoys are probably onto it already for Tommy, but my Dad had something called a M.E.C.S.(Medical Emergency Care System)system in his home in Falkirk and it would probably be a good thing for Tommy.

You can go off the pitch in celebrating a goal, as long as you don’t gesticulate to opposition supporters. If you start hugging the crowd, even your own supporters, it is a bookable offence.

    Scott Sinclair’s booking was warranted.

We have witnessed many Celtic players being booked for celebrating with the supporters. Why is this one causing so much dispute? It’s a straightforward booking. Where’s the controversy?

  7. After last weeks good performance by the U20’s in the cup — looking forward to seeing them play again against senior opposition.

However since then 2 of the team have been sent out on loan.

Do we have enough strength in depth to cover for these departures?

Are we looking to advancing other, younger players into this team?

Or is it a case that those being put out on loan need a new challenge to take them to the next level?

I think the U20’s need support to build a good, recognisable team with personalities ready to step up to the main squad if required.

I want the club to push this age group for all it is worth so that after a number of years of disappointment we have a group who make the most of their talent.

Visibility I think is part of this along with a coherent focus to building a team that can challenge all comers at t that age level.

I don’t want the U20’s to become some sort of patchwork, scratch side cobbled together from what is left at that age group along with younger players moved up to fill the gaps. To me that has been the ready made excuse used over the past few seasons to justify a number of poor performances.

Consequently who do we have to fill these two gaps!

CELTIC are delighted to announce that Tom Rogic has signed a new three-year contract, committing himself to the club until 2019.

And the Australian internationalist, who joined the club back in 2013 from Central Coast Mariners, told the official Celtic website that “it’s a great show of faith by the club in me.”

Rogic, who has made 57 appearances for the Hoops and scored 10 goals since making his debut against Inverness Caley Thistle in February 2013, said: “I’m happy here and happy to commit my future to the club that I’m proud of, and I’m just really excited for the future.

And the 23-year-old midfielder is also looking forward to working under Brendan Rodgers in the seasons ahead.

“The manager’s had a very positive impact on the club so far and I’m sure we will continue to build on that,” he said. “It’s a great time to be at the club, and for me to have my future sorted and know that I’m going to be working with the manager for the coming seasons is great.

“The manager’s had a say in me re-signing here, and he has played a big role in me deciding to stay here, and you can tell he’s a top-class manager.

“I still feel that I have a lot to give and I know that, under him, I can develop and progress and contribute to the team’s success.”

FFS talk about paranoia! He was “on” the perimeter fence and involved with the fans. He broke the rules and got a stupid booking. Vane blame the ref for that one!

  15. Dessybhoy

I didn’t realise that Cheaton Beaton had admitted at HT that he had made an honest mistake. That is surely going to impact on a refs performance in the second half to know that he has made a potentially game changing mistake.

Well, except when Celtic are the injured party obviously!

I guess that’s what Neilson was alluding to then. “We’ve been denied a second non-penalty jist coz he had already gave us wan – and knew it”.

  16. EBS … @ 5.31

    Excellent news.

All we need now is a high energy DM who can tackle.

Hopefully TR — along with JF + SA — can fully engage with BR and the new guys to take his game and his performance to the level his talent deserves.

The AUS NT really rate him and they seem to provide the right platform.

My thoughts are that this is all a bit too “new age” and he needs a good boot up the erse plus a hand on the shoulder to explain what he needs to do.

Hopefully the pass to your pals nonsense will now stop.

TR has the skills to take the team forward now that the team has players worth passing to.

  17. Delighted Tom Rogic has signed new deal. Don’t see him as a first pick but he offers something in midfield that others don’t. He’s probably our only true No.10, hope he works on his fitness to see if he can last more than an hour.

  18. Neustadt-Braw on

The best thing is Billybhoy…. Even if he didn’t,t say it….which I am not saying he did not…but even if he had not…he is there in the blue rain….as events unfolded in front of him…

Brendan has shown a few cards there…..I like it….cos he thinks braw things……

    Braw.

  19. Rogic is, IMHO, the most talented and creative midfielder we have – including the stroppy KC. With the proper nurturing he can progress to be a fantastic player for us and save us a significant wedge in the transfer market.

Now for an experienced, defensive midfielder and a backup goalie!

  20. My friends in Celtic,

I like to see passion, effort and enjoyment from our players.

For these reasons I think Scott Sinclair’s booking is understandable. No doubt it was merited under the current rules, but imo its sometimes worth it.

Reading back, congratulations to all with impressive well deserved exam results.

But also thoughts and commiserations to those students who did not do so well. They need the encouragement of friends and family today.
