Kris, Nielson on opinions, careless cautions

731

Player who has been out since April in shock Uefa squad omission. The only surprise about Kris Commons and Uefa lists is that he was included for the earlier rounds, despite not pulling on a Celtic shirt since April through injury. He was there because there was space on the A list. He’s now been omitted because we signed Scott Sinclair and Brendan Rodgers needed to remove one name to keep his options open for a wildcard.

Kris’ chances of being fit enough to play are less than Patrick Roberts’ so his name came off the list.

I don’t habitually dig up managers at other clubs, but Robbie Nielson is testing the limits of incredulity. When asked about Scott Brown calling Jamie Walker a cheat, he said “If you have got an opinion on anything you are better just keeping it to yourself.”

This is the guy who can’t shut his mouth about referees, including an incident last season when he thought action should have been taken against……. Scott Brown.

Robbie, if you can dish it out but you can’t take it, maybe you are better just keeping your stray opinions to yourself.

We collected four yellow cards at Tynecastle: Gordon, Brown, Dembele and Sinclair. None of them incurred incurred when the ball was in play. Craig Gordon’s was for not going to his line at the Hearts penalty, Moussa Dembele’s was for knocking the ball away, Scott Sinclair’s was for running into the crowd after scoring a debut goal (he’s knew, he should learn, but it’s a clear yellow card) and Scott Brown’s for dissent.

If we’re going to tot up cautions, we should at least do it during play when there is some advantage to be won. Four conceded carelessly off the ball is unusual and could cost us later in the season.

Scott Brown in particular should take note, that was his second caution of the season for dissent, the first coming in Astana. Scott’s a hugely important player to Celtic, previous absences from Europe due to off-the-ball indiscretions should be acting as an inhibitor at this stage of his career.

I have been very critical of Kris Commons on more than one occasion, but bringing his partner into it is surely a step too far. No?

  2. If you go onto Jobo’s link to hunville you will also note that they are calling themselves RFC and not The RFC. Is that not against Company Law? As RFC are a liquidated company.

Permanently Raging FC in constant denial. Some going on earlier about state sponsored cheating – not as bad as National Association sponsored cheating

  3. Cowie’s ‘tackle’ on KT was disgusting.

Straight red in any other league or indeed against any other opponents.

I was sorry that no one bumped into Cowie for the rest of the match.

  4. Is the appeal just a cynical move to have Walker available for match against St. Johnstone?

How unethical of self-righteous Edinburgh team.

  5. If the TVs evidence is there, why NOT use it during the game,? Most every other sport uses it? Is it the truth they can’t handle, or is it that no longer will honest mistakes be part of the game, I’m a great believer in the officials audio being put on TVs/radio like many other sports too, it’s all so obvious and simple,, I just don’t get it why not move on with the technology ?

Sinclair deserved his booking, via the interpretation of the rule.

However, I don’t think it was for “leaving the field of play”.

His momentum and proximity of the stand ensured that he couldn’t stay within the lines.

It was for engaging with the support in a group cuddle, causing others from further back to join in and for a couple of guys to hop the barrier, particularly the beefy number 7.

Had he kept on running behind the goal, he would have been clear.

I was recently tipped off about an app called Mobdro – it’s a game changer. Watch games on your mobile/android device if you are on hotel wifi for example.

  8. MIT, you are absolutely correct. Whereas a video ref would,or should, have overturned the decision, a d sent Walker off.

That is far too sensible for the SFA or football to implement it ties in with the stupid “theses things even themselves out ” comment

More or less my thoughts as I read of the two game ban. It certainly punishes the culprit but not only does it not compensate the victim but aids the victims opponents.

I know what you mean, but there is a danger of over-complicating these things to absurd levels. What if the player is not a first-team regular the next time Hearts face Celtic? Nothing wrong with the player being banned as it comes.

  14. When will Andy Halliday receive his offer for a two match ban after diving to win a freekick during the second half at Ibrox on Saturday?

    Anyone know???

  15. How did Beaton know he had made a mistake at half time, someone on the quiet is looking at TV pictures to establish if it it was a penalty, this is then conveyed to him via his headset, so it is a TV review but not admitted by the Footballing authorites we dont know who is watching or judging situations.

Excellent app, prompts you for updates fairly regularly but quick and well worth it.

If a link is slow there are always others that work perfectly.

Also if you search liveonsat( dot com) it lists every channel a match is covered live on and then search mobdro to see if the channel is there.

    All allegedly of course ;)

    Barney …

I’m not keen on stopping games to check video reviews generally, as I think it slows the game down too much. Some games lend themselves more to this (e.g., baseball, where the calls are usually discrete – strike or not, tagged or not). But, even then, it often takes far too long (5 minutes for some video challenges).

Even games like rugby, there are more stops and starts to the game, so I dont think it hurts the flow of the game as much as it would in football…

I am just thinking of JF’s goal on the weekend … was there a foul/penalty inthe build up? If not, then the ref has to consider whether the striker was interfering in the subsequent play … depending on how quickly one stops/doesn’t stop the play, how far forward/backward does one go?

I dont see a practical way to fully integrate video replay… but someone smarter than I will think of a way, I’m sure…

To improve football, the two changes I would make are:

    1. Go back to the old rule on obstruction and enforce it. if a defender stops the forward from getting the ball before it runs out of play, it is a foul. This will force the defender to play the ball, and create more scoring chances.

    2. if we are going the technology route … put a little chip in the shirts, so that offside can be called properly. Often it is the best plays (perfectly timed runs, for example) that are lost to blown off-side calls. And scoring chances are at a premium in football today, so we cant afford to wrongfully call back many of the best ones.

To me, not to use a facility that can sort out a contentious issue there n then has got to be down to corruption.

Id gladly wait a minute or 2 to watch a replay on a big screen as happens at sports like the rugby to see what exactly happened and im certain it would be a blessing(oor wans may seek abstention)for the refs.

I know that i need to see something again in a replay while watching on the telly to make my mind up about something and sometimes it needs shown 3 or 4 times from different angles to be conclusive so its probably even harder at times for referees to see something from their perspective at ground level.

Why not put it in place for them?

The only thing i can see is that it would make it harder to rig games and by that i mean across the world never mind what then takes place in this wee backwater!

Best wishes to your Mum on her birthday and i hope you all have a great time tonight!

Belter from Chris Jack today. Think The Clumpany might have a bit of fun with it.

Apparently Scottish football can now resume as normal now that “Rangers” (sic) are “back” (sic). The last four years have been a phoney war.

Of course he is absolutely right about the phoney war, only wrong about the time period. The real phoney war was from 1997-2012 when one of the clubs spent £250m of other people’s money to buy players they couldn’t afford and win trophies they shouldn’t have won.

  23. You don’t even have to leave the field of play to get a booking for a goal celebration.

Leigh Griffiths was booked last season for running towards the Hearts support at Tynecastle and gesticulating towards them after scoring.

Craig Bellamy was booked at Ibrox for “walking” towards the Rangers fans and going down on his knees and covering his face with his hands after putting Celtic in front.

  24. Hi Parkheadcumsalford,

just to add to earlier info –

YES, you can subscribe to Celtic TV (the official channel) for a single month if you want… but remember to cancel your subscription almost immediately otherwise it will become a ‘recurring payment’.

And you can definitely pay for a monthly subscription via a UK Credit Card (I pay £12.99 p/m) and as long as you are accessing the Celtic TV website from an overseas IP address, then you can watch every match live.

If you are based in a country with poor internet connection or download speed, then there is sometimes a fair amounty of buffering throughout a match, but this is not the fault of Celtic TV.

Hope this helps, your Beirut correspondent …

  26. FIFA are currently looking at the introduction of Video evidence, but it will be purely for “over-the-line-or-not” decisions. However, once it starts, the genie is out of the bottle and it will eventually be extended for penalty and other decisions.

  27. MiT, I would go for the tennis example, where each manager has, say, 2 shouts per half if he disagrees with a decision. If he uses them up too soon then there’s no argument if later there’s a other contentious decision. Could bring another dimension to the game.

  28. VFR800A8

SS committed none of the offences listed, he did NOT go over any perrimiter fence, he was up against it but not over it.

He Did Not deserve a booking according to the rules.

The referee decided he should be booked.
