Kris, Nielson on opinions, careless cautions

731

Player who has been out since April in shock Uefa squad omission. The only surprise about Kris Commons and Uefa lists is that he was included for the earlier rounds, despite not pulling on a Celtic shirt since April through injury. He was there because there was space on the A list. He’s now been omitted because we signed Scott Sinclair and Brendan Rodgers needed to remove one name to keep his options open for a wildcard.

Kris’ chances of being fit enough to play are less than Patrick Roberts’ so his name came off the list.

I don’t habitually dig up managers at other clubs, but Robbie Nielson is testing the limits of incredulity. When asked about Scott Brown calling Jamie Walker a cheat, he said “If you have got an opinion on anything you are better just keeping it to yourself.”

This is the guy who can’t shut his mouth about referees, including an incident last season when he thought action should have been taken against……. Scott Brown.

Robbie, if you can dish it out but you can’t take it, maybe you are better just keeping your stray opinions to yourself.

We collected four yellow cards at Tynecastle: Gordon, Brown, Dembele and Sinclair. None of them incurred incurred when the ball was in play. Craig Gordon’s was for not going to his line at the Hearts penalty, Moussa Dembele’s was for knocking the ball away, Scott Sinclair’s was for running into the crowd after scoring a debut goal (he’s knew, he should learn, but it’s a clear yellow card) and Scott Brown’s for dissent.

If we’re going to tot up cautions, we should at least do it during play when there is some advantage to be won. Four conceded carelessly off the ball is unusual and could cost us later in the season.

Scott Brown in particular should take note, that was his second caution of the season for dissent, the first coming in Astana. Scott’s a hugely important player to Celtic, previous absences from Europe due to off-the-ball indiscretions should be acting as an inhibitor at this stage of his career.

Kind of glad Griff is suspended for tomorrow’s match . He came off after 83 minutes v Minis and his left ankle has taken a few hard knocks over the last few matches. He is definitely one we want starting v Be’er Sheeva.

Likewise KT who has taken a few bad ones also. For a young guy he has played a lot of tough football recently.

Also be interesting to see our line up against Inter Milan on Saturday with big midweek in mind. Sure I heard that Dedryk may be running out v Inter according to Brendan.

Still think will see a ‘wild card’ signing before first leg match, and also hope that Roberts might be fit enough for the return leg in Israel.

I would expect a ‘big’ signing dependent on qualification for Champions League groups. Happy days.

No I know it’s not solely our rule, but it mainly is :-)

As ever it’s down to the referee, in scotland we are on our plums.

As far as I can recall and I could well be mistaken, but the rule was brought in to minimise crowd trouble, that was the excuse that was given at the time, it’s not an official FIFA reg.

Ach the referees make it up as they go along when we are involved, when have six officials ever missed a blatant handball before, at least one will have seen it, unless it will favour us that is.

Harry Houdini died that year too. I believe he failed in his attempt to be reborn as The Harry Houdini.

Jobo’s post in the last blog about the sevco website omitting last season’s cup final result, has cheered me up. It just about sums them and their superiority complex up .

Its interesting that they have not won any league games they have played since beating Dumbarton last April. No mention of that from the laptop loyal.

Jobo thanks for your earlier post . i hope you and your son enjoyed your trip to Musselburgh.

I hope the weather there was similar to that in your hometown today. It is still the same as in your weather report this morning, thankfully.

  9. Just to be clear: this is a straight cut and paste from FIFA’s Laws of the Game.

Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but

players should return as soon as possible.

A player must be cautioned for:

    • climbing onto a perimeter fence

    • gesturing in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way

    • covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item

    • removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt

Sinclair went over the perimeter fence so deserved the booking.

    Thank you for the clarification.

Yes by all means we must strongly stand up for ourselves – however if we try to defend the indefensible we merley look like grievance junkies, and let’s be honest we have more than enough of them in Scotland at the moment, at Ibrox and in the SNP cult.

Running into the crowd deserves a booking every time – and when someone eventually gets injured, it will become an ordering offence, and who knows maybe a criminal, or, civic, court case, or, both.

Let’s be proactive and sort it out NOW!

I understand Hearts will NOT accept the 2 game ban offer for Jamie Walker. Hearing on Thursday at Hampden.

    =========

Exactly – if that goal turned the game and Hearts went on and won it, then Walker got a 2 match ban and their next games are against say Hamilton and Partick Thistle(just for example)…they’d be pretty happy with that outcome.

I will be out of Scotland for the best part of a month, from the middle of September til the middle of October. Can I take Celtic TV for that period of time and be able to watch games live sur le continent and Asia?

  17. Just heard Walker has been given a 2 match ban for simulation.

re: Hearts player banned … no sure about this.

I guess it depends on what the purpose of the ban is … to punish the offender or to compensate the victim. Ideally, it should be both.

Subject to an appeal, I think he will now miss Hearts’ game against Aberdeen. How is this equitable?

Celtic suffered a loss (by conceding a goal), which loss it should not otherwise have suffered. Aberdeen (who Hearts play later, and will be Celtic’s main competition this season) get a benefit by playing a weakened opponent (which, again, in a fashion, punishes Celtic). In effect, Celtic is punished twice for the cheating, while Aberdeen gets an unwarranted benefit.

A possible solution is that, if the incident which causes the retrospective ban, hurts one team directly (by giving up a goal, or costing points, for example), since those events cant practically be undone, the fairest penalty would be to have the offender serve the ban the next time(s) the two teams meet. Perhaps, if that wont happen again that season, then and only then, the offender servers his ban the next game or two.

    Just a thought …
