Kuhn and the 60 game threshold

199

If you are looking for a (football) gem, you need to do some (data) mining.  Jota was unearthed after a spell on the Valladolid bench.  For 18 months, Nicolas Kuhn (24) has ploughed a furrow on the Rapid Vienna right wing.  Just as Kuhn left Munich for Vienna, Rapid were deducted points for various financial failings, including not submitting accounts on a timely manner.

They currently occupy 6th spot in the Austrian Bundesliga, slightly closer to relegation than championship contenders.  For context, the side two places above them in the table had an average home crowd last season of 2,537.  Rapid are by far the best supported side in the country, but they are a model of disfunction.

Nicolas has made a total of 60 first team appearances, almost half of them in the German second tier (on loan from Bayern at Erzgebirge Aue).  How many appearances a player has made before joining Celtic is a metric you and I discuss often.  60 is just about enough to fire up some interesting stats and have the player scouted, but not so many that he will attract clubs from the wealthy leagues.

This has been his breakthrough season, he started less than half Rapid’s league games last term but has been first choice for all but one game this season (he was carrying a knock that day).  All I know for sure is that we are passing up players we like this month to concentrate on players we want.  If he arrives, he fulfils the latter category.

Also, he was born on the first day of the new millennium.  You feel old now, don’t you?

  1. On the religious front .

I travel in the car to our matches ,with 3 devout Roman Catholics ,and a non practicing Protestant.

The 3 Catholics spend a great deal of time in and around our local chapel .

They are devoted to their church and spend much of their time helping others .

When I think of what a good Christian looks like to me .

    They personify it .

They are wonderful human beings .

One of them spent their working life as a Church of Scotland minister .

    When she retired .

She converted to become a Roman Catholic.

I rarely ever discuss my beliefs with them ,because I would never wish to offend them .

I get the feeling that their faith gives them a comfort in life that I don’t enjoy.

I wish I had their faith .I have tried to believe in God ,but my common sense always takes over .

I do not mean this to offend anyone with believes in their God.

    I can’t even argue that I am correct .

    I just think what I think .

I believe in something, no idea what it is

    I am a lapsed catholic

But don’t believe in “a” God as I was taught

    Spikey

    Can’t really blame anyone

If a player wants to leave it’s out of our hands

We can believe in what serves us and players can believe in what serves them

    They are not the same

If he goes he goes with a small piece of my heart, and a large part of barasics soul lol

  3. At this moment in time,I really dont know what to make of our fans.Yesterday, all the Blogs screaming out about the lack of signings.Today, its odds on we are signing Khun..Are they happier?.Well, tonight

READ CELTIC,wrote,” Is Khun just another Project?. We must be the only fans in the world that think anyone under 24 is a project, whilst all over the EPL and Europe,18,19,20, year olds are playing away for Europes top teams.Whoever introduced the word to the Blogs and the Bloggers, needs emptied.

CELTIC STAR,wrote,”Khun is he really needed”. Because it seems,we have Forrest,Johnston, and Yang !!!!

Two who wont feature, and one who is a” Project”..

Towel being lifted already by my Seconds.

  4. TINYTIM @ 7:32 PM,

Interesting post on Religion and Faith.

I’m the opposite of an Athiest yet if that’s your view, yet you feel a spiritual approach may work for you, it may be worth checking out Sam Harris.

As well as his podcasts and books, he has a very compelling app.

My eldest son uses it and has got a lot out of it, he sent me a link for one months free subscription.

At the moment I’m 2/3rds of the way through it.

Very impressed, even if it’s not inline with my approach.

My daughter is starting to use it too

    Hail Hail

  5. Kühn looks like a different sort of winger to Abada and more typical of the sort of wide player Brendan likes.

Abada’s goals, that we don’t seem to have missed that much so far this season, will hopefully be replaced with more chances created.

  6. Spikey,

Yep,that’s who I am blaming. They fly flags that are offensive to the player, who is perfectly within his rights to be offended .Who do you want to blame?

    You asked the question.

  7. TinyTim,

I know a lot that are never away from the Altar Rails, kiddy ons,who are the most obnoxious, un- Christian like, people you could meet.A bit like the vast majority of God Fearing Christians that attend Ibrox.

  8. difference between Kuhn and…

Maeda – Similar speed but Kuhn is more inclined to burst past his man and can control the ball and cross the ball

Abada – Kuhn is faster and can play both sides

Yang – Different comparison. Yang beats men through trickery – Kuhn is more direct and can score. Yang can develop this through good coaching.

I’ve only seen YouTube but he looks explosive and can link up with forward line – like Palma does on the left. Not the same work rate as Maeda but Maeda is a headless chicken on the right wing.

Happy with Kuhn – now a left back with physicality, a center forward who can take the ball back to goal and header when needed and a center back who can threaten at corners.

    happy new year!

  9. TB- I like the look of him, some guys writing players off that they have never seen is baffling to me,give guys a chance…..change of country, language, culture, environment, expectations of playing for a huge club who MUST win every game

  10. Crimping started off as a dreads”Project” with us.By the time his next transfer goes through,he will be a veteran. How time flies.

  11. Bada,

Think he will settle right away.Looks perfectly suited to the way we play.Very quick as well.Kyogo should be rubbing his hands.

  12. Ben Doak only made two first team appearances for Celtic, saw one of them, both under Ange. Left two years back, since then he has made a grand total of three appearance for Liverpool under a manager who is not averse to giving young players a chance. Ah just wonder, given the number of players who have arrived, and left, who play a similar postion to Doak, that he might just have had more game time had he stayed at Celtic? Mibbes Aye, Mibbes No. Rocco Vata, again similar position to Abada and Kuhn, (Forrest and Johnston too) seems determined to find his own path, ie not at Celtic, and has ended any possibilities he might have had with us. We are often critical of not giving our younger players a chance, but not always in our hands, two went to Munich and are now on these shores, at Wigan and Queens Park, and others, like Montgomery are out on loan albeit at a lower level. Mitch Frame is a left back, had a cameo against Feyonoord, looks promising, not 18 yet, but should be encouraged, maybe a start against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup. Might be a player, only one way to find out. Paul67 is always on about development, not quite sure what he means by it.

  13. Doak has 4 appearances for liverpool

And is currently out with a lateral meniscus tear, which needs surgery

Sure he got injured as he started with liverpool too

    ========

    Thing about development is its

    The Right Player

    With the right Squad

    With the right manager

    At the right time

So many variables as to why a player develops and does not

See KT and Andy Robertson as a fine example

  14. bigrailroadblues on

Mario Melchiot and Craig Burley discussing dietary habits when they played at Chelsea on ESPN. Hilarious 😂

We did beat the hun on 30th December, didn’t we? Celebrating too much will be my downfall. 🤔

Fair play to the South Africans for standing up for what is right.

It wasn’t flags or banners that slaughtered those 14,000 Palestinians. Some folk with obvious anger issues on here would do well to remember that.

Are israel still permitted to partake in UEFA competition?
