Last night is going to hurt

383

Last night is going to hurt. Brendan will hurt, as will the players. As far as our European objectives for this season are concerned – remain involved beyond Christmas – it is close to meaningless, but it will not feel that way.

The players need to make that hurt work for them. Two weeks today, they face Anderlecht. The unpleasant taste of defeat should remain on the taste buds when we take the field in Brussels. This is our opportunity to cleanse the palate. Bottle the hurt, don’t let it escape, let the mood remain sombre.

Use it as a embryo of growth. Be sharper, fitter, more alert and clinical. Take the positives from last night, and there were some, and build on them.

Competitive football is ruthless. Players who reach the Champions League have all filtered through hundreds of iterations of selection and rejection. Last night will have brought the spectre of rejection closer to home than any of them experienced during the Invincible Experience.

If they perform as they can, they will win in Brussels. Do that, and they will justifiably feel better about their place in the great football food chain.

Spare a thought today for others who delighted in our demise last night. The morning after is when they will have realised that defeat just means we redouble our efforts to improve.

Pitch Invader

Oh, and the pitch invader: sue him for whatever fine Uefa impose.  It was a mindless attempted assault.  The reputational damage to Celtic fans from this type of action is incalculable, which the club must show concern for.  The consequences are never appropriately served on the offender.  Let them act with apparent impunity (a ban is irrelevant to some) and you let them cause real damage the reputation of Celtic fans.

  2. Good night to all genuine TIMS who post on here.

    And your point is?

he has been missing from the squad since he went on international duty and i thought he was coming on to a game when selected last season , better option than ML ( who by the way is never a cb imo) at right back.

  4. Valebhoy

Again not sure if still the case, but Celtic used to supplement their own Steward team with Stewards from some of the bigger national organisation, like Rock Steady ?

    For bigger events

I believe it was our previous head of security and Safety who set up Protectevent, along with the Celtic Board, made sense, as the police costs are enormous

Hence we no longer have the police on traffic duty at main artery lights to get us away sharp ( going back a couple of years, but it used to cost about £125 an hour for the Police on this duty)

Big J a full list of teams/ countries who competed to qualify this season

    http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2018/accesslist/listofparticipants/

22 automatic from the big 5 countries, with 10 qualifiers from the rest, next season its 26 and 6 I think

Time for a major and radical shake up, from some of the big clubs whose opportunities are about to be limited, sure there would be good sponsorship and media for this ?

Play on a Tues, current set up on a Wed, and UEFA cup on a Thurs, everyone happy :-)))

Get yourself down to Bukit Bintang and watch the world go by. Great place!

  6. I may be wrong but seem to think Protectevent was a security guy George Douglas.

We are gettin done for flares ……

Cant always blame security. I know two guys who are doin this stuff.

    Money…money…money

  7. Just watching Liverpool v Sevilla. 2-1 Liverpool at the moment.

I’m struggling to find a single Liverpool player who would get into the PSG team from last night ( Coutinho is on the bench ) .

  8. Don’t post often, game last night was a wee tad disappointing. Nuff said. Enjoyed my night in Glasgow. I think when you look at our shape and experience it’s always a struggle. But we live and learn.

Question for the statisticians out there. How many of the Liverpool team on the park hail from Engerlund??

  9. A D, correct that was his name

Set up Protectevent for the Celtic Board at the time – is it still doing Celtic Park security/stewarding ??

Dont know if it is still same…..but with all that hiring trade…..i know young boys who “joined up” & its money. My guess…..?

    You know

  12. Ah well, there are at least another 2 or three on the bench – Oxter Chamberlain, Sturridge, who’s just come on and has only 7 minutes to get an injury and the young guy with the double barreled surname who scored the free kick against Hoffenheim. And maybe Solanke, if he’s on the bench ( guessing now, since I have no idea who their subs are )

  13. Connaire 12

Belated Birthday Wishes, Didn’t realise when speaking to you last night it was your birthday

  14. I’m just home from the game 36 hours after starting out.

Leaving yesterday I held no hope of victory but I didn’t envisage the scale of the defeat, that & the numpty who ran on the Park were the 2 downers but there were plenty of positives that makes me able to say I was privileged to join my Scottish Celtic brothers yesterday,

To Bournesouprecipie who I had the pleasure of meeting to Eurochamps who was indisposed yesterday but whom I hope to meet at the Bayern game a huge thank you.

To Old Tim, BT & the rest of the BV brigade thank you for the warm welcome, delighted to meet Delany’s Donkey for the first time, was supposed to meet WITS but he stood me up but of course he is a Dub.

Had a fantastic seat, singing YNWA was worth the trip alone.

Yep we were hammered, don’t know what this place was like but just in case I don’t intend scrolling back.

I waited & stood and applauded the team off.

This team has given me countless days of joy, I’m not going to castigate them for one poor game.

My positive of the game was Ralston, I think last night could be the making of another top class home grown full back.

    Onwards & upwards COYBIG.

  15. Ha, liked the comment ” Chamberlian , Sturridge, who’s just come on and has only 7 minutes to get an injury ”

None of these two need game time to pick up an injury, both have history getting injured in warm ups. Both worth mega millions as well. Hmmmmmmm

  16. Corkcelt

Was a pleasure to meet Mick and yourself last night. Pity about our Glasgow weather and being outclassed by a mean Parisien team. Hopefully we improve for Brussels.

    See you again soon.

  17. I make it 8 Englishmen starting the first round of games for their 5 representatives. And they wonder why they underperformed at Euros and Was.

  18. What is the Stars on

    Corkie

    Well said

Disappointing result but can’t criticise the team or manager. PSG looked excellent. One of the best teams I have seen.

I was actually outside the Blane Valley at 5pm but was whisked away by my cousin who told me there was some old guy in there talking in an incomprehensible language that he presumed was French. All he could make out was

    Defeckindublinlanger….hereshupemall boysofairhill.

Hopefully next time. I was genuinely looking forward to meeting up

  19. Anderlecht will be very difficult opponents.

They reached the Europa League semis last season and were unlucky to go out to Man U.

    Much improvement is required.

  20. WITS

Corkcelt was not at BV at 5. The Isle of Lewis brigade and us Glasgow bhoys were though. Grangemouth and Lanarkshire also represented. :)
