Legia frustration spills onto Celtic

1640

In a press conference today, Legia major shareholder, Dariusz Mioduski, has been scathing about Celtic, who benefited from Legia’s mistake last week.  Perhaps his most important comment was, “The football family of Legia are all suffering now.  Their dreams are shattered, it’s against football values”.

There can be no doubt that Legia are suffering and that their punishment was in no way proportional to their mistake.  Some of this hurt is inevitably going to find its way to Celtic, who Legia apparently asked to withdraw from the tournament before the Disciplinary Committee sat.  Celtic, Legia inform us, declined to respond.  My understanding is that the rules do not allow for input from the losing team when a suspended player has been involved – as they do when an ineligible player is involved.

Former Juventus-great and current chief of the Polish FA Zibi Boniek had earlier said, “Everyone thoroughly looked into this matter, but Michel Platini and Giorgio Marchetti [from Uefa]said one thing, ‘Zibi, there is no backdoor.  Nothing.  Regulations do not provide for any other penalty.  We are very sorry’.”

If there was a possibility Celtic could choose to forgo their place in favour of Legia, Celtic would be presented with a moral dilemma, but I don’t think the club’s actions would be any different.  Their reluctance to ‘pick up the phone’ to Legia suggest as much.

One area where Mioduski’s information differs from Celtic’s is where he states “No-one at UEFA in Nyon was even considering a 3-0 forfeit Celtic win on the morning of the ruling.”  I understand Celtic were told the exact opposite, that a forfeit was the only outcome possible, corroborating what Platini and Marchetti told Boniek.

Our very best wishes to Fraser Forster, who yesterday became a Southampton player.  Southampton have an enormous rebuilding exercise ahead after selling the majority of their first team players this summer.  They now have a good keeper, who I expect will be busy in the opening months of the season.

After my article yesterday on Fraser Forster’s dedication to his work, a CQN’er sent me this nugget:

“My brother used to go to the dancing with Jinky.  He would go to Jinky’s to collect him and Jimmy would be all suited up, apart from wearing his sand shoes, as he would be practicing his dribbling while waiting to be picked up”.

There are no shortcuts to brilliance.

So Legia cheated and want everyone else to roll over, who do they think they are rangers?

As far as I’m concerned the reversal of result and 0-3 award to opposition is not strict enough, they should be thrown out of euro competition this year for their cheating.

From the squealing of them I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d done it deliberately, they are obviously watching the British press with all the bullshit they are spouting.

It’s more likely that Legia were contacted by the Scottish media, pigsick at our good fortune.

They certainly seem very well-disposed to cheating.

I got it in the neck from a few fellas in my local yesterday. Until I told them to eff off and read the rule-book.

Been away on holiday so missed most of the Legia story – just catching up.

Who actually rumbled the fact that they had screwed up on the player registration to instigate the UEFA enquiry?

Not sure if it’s been clarified as yet. Apparently UEFA instigated the investigation without Celtic prompting them to do so…..

….also some fascinating chat pointing towards some potentially interesting decisions re ‘unusual’ betting activity. This was mentioned by some ref the swiftness of uefa’s actions following the 2nd leg.

That said they also had some pressure to look swift and decisive with the next round being drawn on the Friday morning.

  9. Bobby Murdoch, I think the fact that LW’s manager is an exhun and knows the smsm would indicate he had a lot to do with this.

Tim Malone, it was uefa themselves who made the discovery and made the decision. The smsm would have loved it to have been us but that’s bytheby when the have the LW owner bumpin his gums as he did yesterday.

    BMCUW,

Most people I’ve talked to over here seem to know the score when it comes to rules, not a dissenting voice heard, some were a bit confused as to why Legia are still in any UEFA competition, they got caught cheating deliberately or not and the consequences should be out of UEFA competition and I agree.

Bobby Lennox was ‘fouled’ by John Greig inside the huns box and, the MIB gave a penalty.

The MIB, then changed his mind and gave a fk to the huns and, all hell broke loose at the ole Celtic end. I was only 12 yoa at the time and was down the front of the terracing and, then onto the grass behind the goals to get away from all the ‘bottle & cans’ being thrown.

Anyway….we won, thanks to a Joe Craig cracker. Just brilliant. We went on and win the double that season 1976/77, it was Mr Steins last league flag for us won by, another Joe Craig cracker at Easter Road, in a game were, Celtic could clinch the League title and yet, Hibs chairman TomHart(I think?) banned the TV cameras ?!?!

The other game that you might be getting mixed-up with at Ibrox was, the JRP Gordon game on ne-erday 1978 with the huns and the MIB’s beating us 3-1. Anyway, Joe Craig was wrestled to the ground by Colin Jackson who had, both arms around Joe Craigs neck inside the huns box – a stonewaller – but the MIB, even though he was surrounded by at least 8 Celtic players, waved play on and the huns broke up the pitch and scored,

John Greig rounded Frank Munro and rolled the ball into the empty net to spark, some of the most frightening scenes that I have witnessed as a Celtic fan / ‘supporter’ from the terracing behind the goals. The game was stopped on several ocassions as the Celtic support had to endure the worst MIBBERY that I have witnessed as Celtic fan / ‘supporter’. The consolation for me that day was that, Mr Stein put his hand on my shoulder as he ushered all the youngsters back onto the terracing. It was so bad that day that, at one point the Celtic players all walked over to the dug-out to ask Mr Stein if he wanted them to stay on the pitch. I’m not a religious person these days so, I hope JRP GORDON rots in hell.

JRP Gordon and, Bobby Davidson were two masonic BAST#RD’s of the worst type, probably the worst that I have seen in all my life as a Celtic fan / ‘supporter’.

Hope that helps – Hail Hail.

    Hi fella, hope yer well.

Yeah, JRP Gordon was also sent home from the WCF’s in Argentina 1978 for taking bribes or, for being involved in match-fixing.

Thing is….this scandal was lost in a sea of -wall to wall- coverage of ex-hun Wullie Johnstone being sent home for failing a drugs test.

I had shortbreads commentary on in the background and you honestly would never have known Hearts had scored such was their abject misery … but you know what ? it contributed greatly to my deep satisfaction knowing just how badly they were hurting …. well that and the fact I had a healthy wager on the mini huns @ 3/1 …….. long may the bookmakers believe that this tribute act even closely resembles the deady bears ……easy money .

Does anyone know when uefa will consider Legia’s doomed appeal ? thanks in advance HH .

  33. just got this snippet from a good source…

    is there any other kind????

league re-structuring is about to rear its head, soon.

“Scotland needs a 16 team top league to help our

    co-efficient” is the quote.

the penny has dropped that the scumbags are not good

enough to be in the top two in the championship.

To be fair…I think they will struggle to make the top 4.

Can see them going for a 20 team SPL!!!!!
