In a press conference today, Legia major shareholder, Dariusz Mioduski, has been scathing about Celtic, who benefited from Legia’s mistake last week. Perhaps his most important comment was, “The football family of Legia are all suffering now. Their dreams are shattered, it’s against football values”.
There can be no doubt that Legia are suffering and that their punishment was in no way proportional to their mistake. Some of this hurt is inevitably going to find its way to Celtic, who Legia apparently asked to withdraw from the tournament before the Disciplinary Committee sat. Celtic, Legia inform us, declined to respond. My understanding is that the rules do not allow for input from the losing team when a suspended player has been involved – as they do when an ineligible player is involved.
Former Juventus-great and current chief of the Polish FA Zibi Boniek had earlier said, “Everyone thoroughly looked into this matter, but Michel Platini and Giorgio Marchetti [from Uefa]said one thing, ‘Zibi, there is no backdoor. Nothing. Regulations do not provide for any other penalty. We are very sorry’.”
If there was a possibility Celtic could choose to forgo their place in favour of Legia, Celtic would be presented with a moral dilemma, but I don’t think the club’s actions would be any different. Their reluctance to ‘pick up the phone’ to Legia suggest as much.
One area where Mioduski’s information differs from Celtic’s is where he states “No-one at UEFA in Nyon was even considering a 3-0 forfeit Celtic win on the morning of the ruling.” I understand Celtic were told the exact opposite, that a forfeit was the only outcome possible, corroborating what Platini and Marchetti told Boniek.
Our very best wishes to Fraser Forster, who yesterday became a Southampton player. Southampton have an enormous rebuilding exercise ahead after selling the majority of their first team players this summer. They now have a good keeper, who I expect will be busy in the opening months of the season.
After my article yesterday on Fraser Forster’s dedication to his work, a CQN’er sent me this nugget:
“My brother used to go to the dancing with Jinky. He would go to Jinky’s to collect him and Jimmy would be all suited up, apart from wearing his sand shoes, as he would be practicing his dribbling while waiting to be picked up”.
There are no shortcuts to brilliance.

WITS, it’s not what Ronny has said, it’s the history of the teams he puts out, they attack.
Some managers do say they will play boring football, they usually call it pragmatic!
Ronny isn’t doing that.
Two serious games isn’t enough to judge, especially as a few players seem not to be pulling their weight. Plenty of examples of Celtic managers failing in aeurope, especially at the first attempt.
I am trying to get tickets for Wednesday, to get a first hand look at the team, and cause the wee Lhass is desperate to go.
You may be right, I see signs that you may not be, so, for now, Ronny gets my backing.
Griffs people carrier trashed by The Onlooker. shockeroooni.

So what about this ole US PGA then. Shaping up for the closest finish in a major in years –

Fowler – 14 under after 15
Furyk – 12 under and leader in the clubhouse
6 players at 11 under, 2 still out on the course

We pronounce it like this ‘Another Dick’ coming on
————————————————————————
Now please do one and tell your baldy hun manager that Lizzie knows all about his EBT and wants her tax back. Bye bye.
WITS, we shall see, nice debate, good exchange of views.
I’ll let you know what I think after Wednesday.

Ssssssshhhhhhh.
I need an alibi now
The Onlooker
tricoloured ribbon 00:53 –
inclined to agree with you m8. Added to when he won his first major in USA, two lads approached him with a tricolour
He took off like somebody was offering Dracula a lump of garlic
Went down in my eyes after that and the 6-county flag was the tin hat on it for me
Forget Ireland Olympics – he’s more likely to get picked for Ireland than a GBR team through lack of numbers
Doc
Sorry just saw the “explain spoofer”
By spoofer I mean some who plays to the gallery by coming out with all the statements they want to hear (but behind the verbals there is nothing concrete)
So far its been “fast attacking football” Great lets see it
“players must learn new system” Oh Dear
“we are working hard to bring in new faces” or something along those lines (Heard that before Ronny)
So I have declared Rony to be a spoofer who cant believe his luck to have been handed the Celtic Job
Again
I hope to be proved wrong
WITS, thanks for the explanation.
This week will tell much.
tricoloured ribbon
I hope he wins regardless ! His politics are his own – I don’t care. Love to see win gold for Ireland in 2016.
What a shot from Fowler!
Onlooker
You haven’t been too bad at concocting them in the past (according to my reliable sources)
Hh
Less than 24 hours.
Millions in the bank .
Maribor waiting.

He’s also elected to play for Ireland in the Olympics which took a lot of courage.
Two of our recent managers played for the occupied 6 counties. Playing at windsor in front of the baying mob who ‘support’ their ‘team’ with a full horde repertoire.

Grow up!
F**king begrudger.
1st post since mid-week and what a week.
Highs & lows.
The admin error in Poland is a” real life football get out of
jail card” .
What cannot be in dispute is the lack of foresight and planning
regards giving any manager ,new or not the best chance of
making the the group stages.
No lessons learned from last year.
If all our 1st team squad had the work ethic of FF we also be
in a better place.
Loving this golf tonight but roll on next Saturday.HH
Phil drops a shot at 16…
Fowler pars 16th…

Tough luck Rupert.
Been thinking on the Legia case prompted by something Favourite Uncle posted earlier.
Perhaps the thinking behind the rule never envisaged that a club would play a suspended player other than to gain sporting advantage?
A suspended player has already broken a football rule and been subject to disciplinary action which causes his club to be denied his services for a number of games. They lose any advantage he brings to his team (in theory)
How those games are counted in order to keep track is in the rules to stop a club thinking of sneaking a player in before his sentence is up because why else (in disciplinary think terms) would a club play a suspended player?
How could you write a rule that said a game will not be forfeit and a club face a penalty without the deterrent value behind the rule being compromised?
Thus the absolute position is regardless of the reason a club forfeits a game if it plays a suspended player because the only reason it would do so is to gain sporting advantage.
In football there is the referees decision is final rule of thought. It is there because without it games would be replayed forever and results overturned when mistakes are made.
When a club gets the advantage of a referee’s incorrect decision when after a game it can be seen that a clear penalty should have been awarded , the team losing out accept it because football becomes unmanageable if they do not.
This seems to be the position Legia have put themselves in.
No question of any advantage or disadvantage just the rule of football producing the equivalent of an honest mistake that either costs or benefits clubs every game.
Or does the amount of money lost or gained make it more than an integrity issue?
