Legia frustration spills onto Celtic

1640

In a press conference today, Legia major shareholder, Dariusz Mioduski, has been scathing about Celtic, who benefited from Legia’s mistake last week.  Perhaps his most important comment was, “The football family of Legia are all suffering now.  Their dreams are shattered, it’s against football values”.

There can be no doubt that Legia are suffering and that their punishment was in no way proportional to their mistake.  Some of this hurt is inevitably going to find its way to Celtic, who Legia apparently asked to withdraw from the tournament before the Disciplinary Committee sat.  Celtic, Legia inform us, declined to respond.  My understanding is that the rules do not allow for input from the losing team when a suspended player has been involved – as they do when an ineligible player is involved.

Former Juventus-great and current chief of the Polish FA Zibi Boniek had earlier said, “Everyone thoroughly looked into this matter, but Michel Platini and Giorgio Marchetti [from Uefa]said one thing, ‘Zibi, there is no backdoor.  Nothing.  Regulations do not provide for any other penalty.  We are very sorry’.”

If there was a possibility Celtic could choose to forgo their place in favour of Legia, Celtic would be presented with a moral dilemma, but I don’t think the club’s actions would be any different.  Their reluctance to ‘pick up the phone’ to Legia suggest as much.

One area where Mioduski’s information differs from Celtic’s is where he states “No-one at UEFA in Nyon was even considering a 3-0 forfeit Celtic win on the morning of the ruling.”  I understand Celtic were told the exact opposite, that a forfeit was the only outcome possible, corroborating what Platini and Marchetti told Boniek.

Our very best wishes to Fraser Forster, who yesterday became a Southampton player.  Southampton have an enormous rebuilding exercise ahead after selling the majority of their first team players this summer.  They now have a good keeper, who I expect will be busy in the opening months of the season.

After my article yesterday on Fraser Forster’s dedication to his work, a CQN’er sent me this nugget:

“My brother used to go to the dancing with Jinky.  He would go to Jinky’s to collect him and Jimmy would be all suited up, apart from wearing his sand shoes, as he would be practicing his dribbling while waiting to be picked up”.

There are no shortcuts to brilliance.

  1. WITS, no, I think we are in transition, and will win the league, we can start slowly and still win.

Trqnsition makes qualification for the CL difficult, for any manager, see WGS or NFL, neither qualified in their first year. Only one won their first League.

I was at Murrayfield so do understand, we were very poor.

Ronny needs time and backing, from supporters and the club.

In the days I was daft I would do the odd coupon on a Saturday

In the dog days of the 1990s I am ashamed to say that I backed a 5-homes accy including Celtic to lose at Aberdeen. Andy Payton scored a late equaliser and beat me for what I recall was in the region of £200 – a tidy sum 20 years ago to a not long married man with two small kids

Never backed against the Celtic since and never will.

    Be lucky m8

    WITS,

I will have a lucky lucky time with a sheep if Aberdeen win the league.

Should Dundee Utd win the league, I will find an Arab, be his camel and let him ride me.

Thankfully it ain’t gonna happen. What are you on?

Minimum 15 points title win for the Celts.

Martim1980, thats a rather sweeping statement when you don’t know someones background is it not. In relation to PL how do you know PL is one of the best chief execs in british football, did he tell you himself? All joking aside i’d like to see how we benchmark from our CEO to that of other football clubs in Europe, imo we are not getting value for money from our £30m+ wage bill.

    WITS

    Europe – YES

SPL – resounding NO, inconceivable that any SPL team can be consistent enough and we will improve as the season progresses.

    Doc

    Fair enough

But why are we in transition and transition from what to what

Ok transition in the sense of new manager, new players new style of play etc

Except all we have so far is a new Manager

The only transition I see is one from spending X amount per season to spending 1/2 X per season. This allows the chasing pack to catch up

I would normally agree with support the manager, give him a chance etc but I really think we have made a huge mistake,

At what stage of the season should the board admit that

After we lose on wednesday, after we fail to get by Maribor, after we find ourselves struggling to win the league in mid October

  7. Celtic has no any honour and you are f…. chickens. You lost with LEGIA and you have no any fair-play rules. It so set. Kiss UEFA in ass. It is only you can. Stupid chickens

  8. Captain Beefheart on

    Charity bet.

Does anybody think Celtic won’t win the league?

100 pounds to a charity of Paul 67’s choice if you are correct (ha ha).

Will catch any madmen replies tomorrow at lunchbreak.

    Champions again.

We will get an indication on Wednesday evening if

    (a) Ronny knows how to set out a team to win SPL games. (b) if players know how to implement his strategy (c) if players are playing for the manager .

If the answers to (a) and (b) is no we need to get a new manager

if the answer to (c) is No we need to get rid of the culprits.

Interested about the tale of Griffiths being so stupid that he offers a square go with a fan on wednesday.

The Ultras in many Latin countries have a very direct approach if they think their players are not trying ………….. they visit the training ground and trash their sports cars.

Igun there are a few that know about chickens on this website so i hope you know your stuff!!!

    Igun,

Either you supported a liquidated club

    Or

You support an incompetent and amateur Polish club. All hail Marta.

    Hahahahahahbahababa.

    No luck eh?

  14. WITS, transition from one manager to another, different ideas, philosophy.

Players resistant to change, digging their heels in, and I hear a few are.

Systemic changes take time. And I think we are changing our whole system.

We are coaching players to become better.

That’s the plan from what I can gather, to a greater extent than we have under NFL.

This will take time. Other teams have to be patient, Ajax are a good example for us.

We have won a watch with regard the Legia admin mistake, we must make the most of it.

I don’t mean get into the CL or bust!

I mean make the most of it.

If the best Ronny can get is the EL this season then so be it, work hard, coach improve.

Then work harder, coach and improve more.

Nothing improves you as much as hard work.

  15. Tricoloured Ribbon on

We have a monumental Champions League qualifier coming up.

How’s about trying to negotiate that first?

That means Griffiths upfront and Henderson in mid.

    Oh and McGregor.

  16. WitS

Hope so or its going to be a long , long season.

I have tickets for Wednesday so I will be offering square goes to any non triers. :)

Be assured, the kids will be as safe as you would have them. They chickens can be ferocious things, not. Most of them are pets and the kids will love handling them. Now, the geese, different proposition, but no one can get near them, safety assured. The wee new born chick is coming on a treat, hopefully a hen. :-))

Best you have a good look at your deid team.

What was the result today? Against a team built on buttons. I’ll give you a wave from paradise when you eventually are allowed in….

  21. WITS, I’m looking forward to it.

New manager, promising a new style. Attacking.

I would have kept Lenny for life, but we are here now.

Change is difficult, but if embraced can be invigorating and enhancing.

    Sometimes it is that simple.

    Example.

Had PLG been embraced rather than chased and replaced by Wattie, who demanded millions, Rangers 1872 might still be a football team.

Now that is an extreme, but in our context, valid.

  22. sipsini

By the looks of things, it won’t be next season. Hahaha.

New Manager promising a new style,Attacking

What exactly does all that mean

How many new managers turn up at press conferences and say

I will play boring defensive football

I think the appointment of Deila as manager will turn out to be a disaster

He strikes me as a complete spoofer

    Lets see what wednesday brings

  24. doc

Nae worries, we will make their visit as enjoyable as possible, be assured of that. :-))

  25. Squire (I know broke my promise im.back on)

Agree with you although hopefully after progressing to the Cl (without too many serious gubbings)we might find our level in the El. To say this as a Celtic supporter breaks my heart because I feel that we should be competing with the big boys but given the paucity of resources where we are now I’m being a pragmatist.

With regards to the Spl cannot see us being bested. Think Dundee hibs will start well but do not have the strength in depth to mount a season long challenge,

No matter what happens I will always be a proud Tim and when things get bad I will remember how I felt when Rankers were progressing towards their ill gotten 9 and rest assured, I will feel much better about our present predicament..

    WITS

Iwill never bet against the Celtic. Last post tongue in cheek to a certain extent but seriously cannot understand mindset of betting against the team “we all adore”.
