Legia frustration spills onto Celtic

1640

In a press conference today, Legia major shareholder, Dariusz Mioduski, has been scathing about Celtic, who benefited from Legia’s mistake last week.  Perhaps his most important comment was, “The football family of Legia are all suffering now.  Their dreams are shattered, it’s against football values”.

There can be no doubt that Legia are suffering and that their punishment was in no way proportional to their mistake.  Some of this hurt is inevitably going to find its way to Celtic, who Legia apparently asked to withdraw from the tournament before the Disciplinary Committee sat.  Celtic, Legia inform us, declined to respond.  My understanding is that the rules do not allow for input from the losing team when a suspended player has been involved – as they do when an ineligible player is involved.

Former Juventus-great and current chief of the Polish FA Zibi Boniek had earlier said, “Everyone thoroughly looked into this matter, but Michel Platini and Giorgio Marchetti [from Uefa]said one thing, ‘Zibi, there is no backdoor.  Nothing.  Regulations do not provide for any other penalty.  We are very sorry’.”

If there was a possibility Celtic could choose to forgo their place in favour of Legia, Celtic would be presented with a moral dilemma, but I don’t think the club’s actions would be any different.  Their reluctance to ‘pick up the phone’ to Legia suggest as much.

One area where Mioduski’s information differs from Celtic’s is where he states “No-one at UEFA in Nyon was even considering a 3-0 forfeit Celtic win on the morning of the ruling.”  I understand Celtic were told the exact opposite, that a forfeit was the only outcome possible, corroborating what Platini and Marchetti told Boniek.

Our very best wishes to Fraser Forster, who yesterday became a Southampton player.  Southampton have an enormous rebuilding exercise ahead after selling the majority of their first team players this summer.  They now have a good keeper, who I expect will be busy in the opening months of the season.

After my article yesterday on Fraser Forster’s dedication to his work, a CQN’er sent me this nugget:

“My brother used to go to the dancing with Jinky.  He would go to Jinky’s to collect him and Jimmy would be all suited up, apart from wearing his sand shoes, as he would be practicing his dribbling while waiting to be picked up”.

There are no shortcuts to brilliance.

  3. Auldheid, I’ve been saying this for days.

It’s just a rule, break it and there are consequences.

UEFA hold to that. It is the right thing to do.

If only the SFA could have known that!

Pleased to see you posting about some movement on Res12 today.

I think in the past the player just missed the requisite number of games.

No real admin required , just sit out three games

I am guessing that the slight change comes about now that teams have to register a squad of 25 for the season of European games.

That way the punishment has some meaning otherwise rich teams would have enormous squads which would allow them to pick up multiple bookings/suspensions without impacting the quality of the team.

Legia are unfortunate that they did not realise the implications of the 25 player rule in relation to suspensions.

The sporting advantage (however slight)was in their games against St Pats where they named 25 players, therefore cushioned the impact of having a suspended player who was not available by replacing him with AN Other

    Downforsam lowering the tone bhoy.

Tricoloured is entitled to his opinion and lets face it Rory divides opinion.

Like Squire I could see him far enough over the flag incident after he won the US pga at Congressinal. Then when he elected to represent Ireland at the 2016 Olympics and my position softened somewhat. However the explanation of his decision was covered with caveats ,difficult decision, proud Ulsterman, I understand people being disappointed with my decision etc etc.

Simple fact of the matter wad that Rory had been funded through his amateur days by the GUI so any decision other than to represent Ireland would have been a real slap in the face. He really would have been nailing his colours to the mast ( no pun intended). Also Rory is no fool when it comes to recognising the financial benefits of Oirishness in America.

Defn night night all and no fighting.

  10. When I was at primary school, during one game, the ball was rolling towards the touchline when one of our players bent down and picked the ball up.

The ref duly blew for a free kick to our opponents for hand-ball.

“Aw come on ref, it was going out anyway” pleaded my team-mate.

Sure enough it was. But thems the rules.

See Masonry has been there since the Rafael van der Vaart. It is, when it is stripped back from all the NEW AGE crap, Auldheid used a lot of NA terminology, hopefully unwittingly, who knows, though.

The New Age is the Oldest Lie

    =========================

It was a bit of a surprise to find my thinking, which changed because of my life experience, reflected in what you describe as New Age.

My experience had me questioning what I had been taught Christ’s teaching meant and got me thinking what else could he mean? Take the parable of the Weeds Amongst the Wheat. I was taught that parable meant that the field was the world, the wheat seeds were the good guys and the darnel/weeds that were sown afterwards were the bad guys. The dastardly deed was discovered, but the landowner said just let both wheat and weeds grow and separate them at harvest time (your end days)and consign the darnel to the fire.

But I thought, what if the field in which the wheat was sown was not a metaphor for the world but one for an individual human being and the seeds good and bad were part of that individual’s make up?

What if he/she is allowed to learn from life’s experience and at the end of that individual’s time the good attitudes learned from life are retained (by the immortal spirit) and the bad attitudes just die away but the more enlightened spirit lives on?

Thought all that out for myself, no new age reading or influence, just trying to make sense of what my life was telling me as opposed to what sense others had made of their experience.

However a strange thing happened. Not that long after rethinking the parable I was handed a book called The Weeds Amongst the Wheat. I still have it and in chapter eight The Value of the Weeds the author came out with exactly the same alternative to the parable that I had thought of !.

I doubt the author was New Age, but you can get the book and decide for yourself.
