LENNY PRAISES GRIFF

LEIGH GRIFFITHS will make his Celtic comeback against Hibs at Parkhead this afternoon.

The striker was axed by Neil Lennon after returning overweight from the four-month lockdown and was dropped from the squad that played Nice, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain and he was missing again when the Hoops beat Ross County 2-0 yesterday at a closed Parkhead.

However, Griffiths, 29, WILL be involved at some stage in the friendly against the Easter Road outfit in the east end of Glasgow today.

Lennon, speaking to BBC Sport, said: “I gave him a bit of criticism while I was away.

“He’s got himself in great condition. He needs a little bit of time in terms of his football. He will get some game time against Hibs.

“It’s a great boost. It’s the minimum requirement. He’s got himself to a really good level, so it’s important he maintains that because he will be an asset for us.”

Mohamed Elyounoussi and an own goal from Coll Donaldson brought the goals against the Dingwall outfit yesterday.

Odsonne Edouard is still awaiting his first goal after his appearances in the four warm-up outings and is likely to be partnered by Griffiths at some stage against the Edinburgh club.

The action will kick off at 1.30pm as the champions prepare to welcome Hamilton Accies for the Premiership opener on Sunday.
