Lessons from Jerry Maguire

1815

News that a striker reneged on a verbal commitment to join the club 24 hours before deadline day should surprise no one.  Think back to that line from Jerry Maguire, when Jerry’s girlfriend hears he had secured a representative deal on a handshake, not an actual contract.  The agent’s reminder of Lesson One in business was sharp.

Last minute change of plans happen, but only when you’re doing last minute business.  We are now 10 hours away from the deadline and in desperate need for what we’ve been in desperate need…. to replace the long departed Gary Hooper.  It would be wrong to think that Scepovic was the only striker we were pursuing, so we’re not starting from scratch, but he was first choice.

The ball is still in play, not panicking yet.

Can anyone summarise the drama, arrivals and departures?

Last I saw Scepovic had reneged and was off to Getafe.

So who came off the bench?

Who is jetting in from where to beat the slamming window and sign for the Mighty Tims as the clock strikes midnight, CET?

Scepovic signing? Is he? Lol. Already labelled ‘prick’ by many on here after his u-turn behaviour yesterday. Oh, hang on that was me…

Scepovic now enters the quiz pantheon for ‘Celts who have started on the back foot before even kicking a ball’…

To which the answer would be, “All of the above”…?

  8. From official celtic website

CELTIC are delighted to confirm the signing of Serbian internationalist Stefan Scepovic on a four-year deal from Sporting Gijon.

The 24-year-old becomes Ronny Deila’s sixth recruit of the summer transfer window following the acquisitions of Craig Gordon, Jo Inge Berget, Aleksandar Tonev, Jason Denayer and Mubarak Wakaso.

Having started his career at OFK Beograd, the striker had stints at the likes of Club Brugge and Partizan Belgrade before enjoying a prolific spell in Spanish football.

Capped eight times by his country, the hitman opened his account for Serbia in their 5-0 victory over Macedonia last October and will bolster the club’s attacking options.

We won that Hibs game 3 1. Michael Conroy, Dvaie Provan and the imperious Danny got our goals. I think Ralph Callchan got their goal.

Danny’s goal was mega that night, just shot past Jim McArthur, who didn’t even move.

Great news we have one possibly two strikers in. We should have done this eight weeks ago.

  20. SSN have announced Scepovic as a done deal 4 year deal. I know people are annoyed but you have to realise footballers are greedy and look out for number one. If he scores on his debut all will no doubt be forgotten.

He’ll grow to love the club, he’ll do well and be sold on for a profit or he’ll flop and be shipped out. Those are the 3 outcomes, in order of preference… No matter what he did today.
