Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

At one stage it was in FFs interest to abstain but given the recent opinion polls the time is coming when they will drop confidence and supply. Don’t think it’s going to be this week though and not on a SF motion of no confidence. Some tasty exchanges in the Dail today.

What has/is happening to Maurice Mc Cabe is a travesty and the boul Noirin up to her oxters in it. A Garda Commisioner appointed because of a lack of confidence in the previous one briefing against a whistleblower. Fitzgerald will go the same way as Shatter hopefully.

What about Stephen Donnelly???? The smell of power. Pity, thought he might have been a force for good now appears as if he’s another who can’t wait to get his snout in the trough

A tragedy for the people in that town.

There is a lot more to that though….i.e. how a creature like that could repeatedly get a licence for the numerous guns he had access to….considering it was well known what he was.

Who was responsible for that eh?

It seems to me we have a problem with Celtic teams that aren’t being tweaked during the game.

I get it. No Celts here care who makes it to the Youth Cup semi-final. Wasters.

I care. Good luck on Friday, Celtic.

  13. I believe the Celtic board have not spoken out because its their belief that it is in Celtics best interest not to. I also believe that when it is in Celtics best interest to speak out they will do so.

  18. Good morning all

Just heading into work for another day of rubbish that makes me understand why I drink at weekends.

I will stick my oar in re the board. I have not been impressed by the way it has behaved over the last few years on pretty much everything whether it be three of the last 4 managerial appointments, team building strategies in the summers of 2012, 13, 14 and 15 and of course Rangers ( all versions). With regard to Them the suspicion that the Celtic Board has something to hide will remain as long as Celtic PLC continues to issue bland statements on the topic[ where it lowers itself to comment ]. I also am not impressed on a personal level with the chairman who I did not like when I was briefly in his company last year.

I want to have a Celtic Board that is competent and which does not hide behind bland statements on topics that affect the club and its supporters. I want to feel as though they understand me and my fellow supporters- and for me to trust them.

Sack the Board though? Well until a rival to the current regime emerges that has the same level of financial muscle emerges then Sack The Board is nothing more than a slogan. Sounds good and all that but that’s all.

if you cannot stomach the current board then fair enough do not go to Celtic Park. But please do not assume that those of us who do go are all stupid, supporting the Board in all it does (and doesn’t do) and unaware of an issue like Res 12. This is my 50th season of watching Celtic and other than perhaps the period from 4 March 1994 to July 1998 I would say I have , if I thought about it, gone in spite of the Board. Things have been worse than now.

The current Board do have a record of financial competence that not all previous regimes had but they do appear remote and soulless and I wish they were not. But until a credible alternative emerges you can keep your slogans.
