Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

    ” chun ”

    I`ll take that as a compliment. :-)

“The current Board do have a record of financial competence that not all previous regimes had but they do appear remote and soulless and I wish they were not. But until a credible alternative emerges you can keep your slogans.”

Sorry to have misunderstood , Jim.

I interpreted ” remote and soulless ” as an indication of your unhappiness with the Board.

I started a new contract on Monday and have been pretty busy so haven’t been on the blog too much but I managed a read-back of the last couple of days last night and I see a lot of angst and concern about the recent corruption in Scottish football.

Well, I have been going to Celtic Park since the mid-60’s and it has been corrupt since then; my older brothers have been going since the 50’s and it was corrupt then. My dear old dad went since the 30’s and it was corrupt then. Celtic were formed in 1887 and it was corrupt then.

Generations of Celtic fans have supported the team since 1887/1888 knowing it was corrupt. Celtic Boards have managed the club since 1887 and very seldom spoken out or challenged the corruption. We have accepted that as a club with an Irish Catholic heritage that the Scottish establishment will be against us and for Rangers, The Rangers, Sevco or any other entity wearing blue and playing out of Ibrox.

So we should now castigate the current Board because we don’t know why at this time they are saying very little? There are a number of reasons (good and bad) why they are saying nothing (in no particular order):

    1. They are keeping their powder dry until the outcome of the Supreme Court case.

    2. They can’t be arsed.

    3. They are happy to accept the “blue/bigot” pound.

    4. The Establishment has something on them.

    5. They colluded with the corruption.

    6. There is no fiscal benefit from exposing the corruption.

    7. They tried to solicit support but it wasn’t forthcoming.

    8. They are enjoying the torture of Sevco.

    9. The expect Sevco to fully implode and die soon.

    10. They are waiting for an opportunity to call in a debt (i.e. ticket money) and kill them off.

All plausible reasons that they are doing nothing, but the bottom line is that we don’t know. My own feeling is that 1, 7 or 9 are more likely options, but I could be 100 miles away.

Will it change in my lifetime? I certainly hope so. The fact is now it is out in the open and my real hope is that the Supreme Court produces a judgement that clearly details the EBT were illegal, amounted to financial doping and cheating; this will render LNS null and void and a new inquiry will need to be set up. Title stripping should (but may not) follow – personally that doesn’t bother me overly much. Them being labelled and documented as cheats and the level of corruption in Scottish Football is brought to the fore.

However, in the meantime, I will continue to support my team. Maybe I’m a wee bit perverse, but there is something immensely satisfying about being in the midst of a setup that tries to stymie us at every opportunity but we are so far ahead of the others that we are out of sight!

Regardless of the Supreme Court judgement, the SFA,Scottish govt,et al,will simply bury their heads in the sand re stripping of trophies.

You may, indeed, be able to go on all day but you fell at the first fence with your first slogan

PL has consistently made quotes such as “In terms of investment our policy our commitment is that every penny that comes into the club will be reinvested, it will go back into the club. I do not think we can be clearer than that. There is no pile of cash sitting there that we could look at, watch, feel and touch. It doesn’t exist. It is fantasy.”

He takes care to specify club and not team. There are infrastructure improvements, managerial and scouting costs etc; These are not, strictly, team improvements.

He may very well be open to many many levels of criticism but he should be hanged by his own words and actions/ inactions rather than distort his meaning. This club/team distinction has been made several times on here but we still here posters claiming he meant investment in the team. He didn’t. He was careful to give himself that wriggle room- for all the good it did him.

BMCUWP, I disagree pal. I reckon that a Supreme Court decision making EBT’s illegal will leave no option but another inquiry.

Greenman, my old man worked at Yarrows for a while after Turners was shut in 1967; he could tell a tale or two about the goings-on in the shipyards. It would look like fiction now!

Macjay, all my views on it are seasoned with more than a modicum of number 8!

SFTB, spot on as usual; there has been significant off-the-field-investment this year, particularly with the investment in the standing section. Expect a large investment in a new pitch this close season as well. It should be borne in mind that part of the misery over in Govan has been and will continue to be around the lack of investment on the infrastructure of their club. We are as far ahead of them off the pitch as we are on it!

    Search C: using term *.*

This may take a few minutes as it will list all files on your computer.

Sort the results by Size by clicking on the Size column header (word ‘Size’)

This will identify the largest files on your C: which should normally be film or music files, mp4, avi, mp3 for example which should be copied to an external drive, not deleted at this stage in case you need to replace them.

Never delete unless you are sure

Right click on the C: icon in the File Explorer window, then click ‘Properties’. Then click ‘Disc cleanup’

    Then report back…

  21. Cheating / corrupting .

Calciopoli revealed that Juventus were selecting and then influencing Referees . It also revealed that they were influencing and controlling the media – eg — lots of coverage given to decisions against Juventus and no coverage given to decisions in favour of Juventus . etc etc.

    .

Happened in Scotland too — a perfect example being Cadette’s disallowed goal at Ibrox . Guest pundit – Gordon Smith — offered up a litany of absurd justifications for a ludicrous decision — offside / handball , a foul and then settled for a he’s a great Ref , he must have seen something . At no point was the possibility of the Ref having made an absolute howler even considered… The Hun Hegemony in action.
