Life truisms and leaving extra in the Hampden lockers

1052

There are truisms in life.  The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, night follows day and Hibernian Football Club will not win the Scottish Cup.  However, a failure to lift the trophy since Orville said to Wilbur, ‘I bet this thing gets off the ground’, does not guarantee subsequent failures.  Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and are perfectly capable of doing so again on Sunday.

Before this season Kilmarnock hadn’t won at Celtic Park since 1955, but it happened.  St Johnstone, Motherwell, St Mirren, Inverness and Ross County beat us too.  All these defeats were against the odds; no more so than Hibs are on Sunday.

Celtic need to get in touch with how they felt after their League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren, a day of so much regret.  The 90 minutes will pass quickly, there’s no point leaving something in your locker for next week. Let’s get off to a flier.

Many thanks for sending over your Seville photographs, we are planning to pull photos and your comments on the event together into a special publication.  If you have any more please send them in, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his book at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 25th May.  Bet he knows what he was doing that very afternoon 46 years earlier.  Get along to see him or order your own signed copy below. This is going to be a great weekend.

How did they pick the Quizball team? Was there a quiz between the players or were they just picked?

Davie Hay might have merited a place in the team but you are wrong about the last match (apparently) – we had so many more players who could make the team in 1970 rather than 1967 so harder to choose the team.

Sorry to keep peppering Willie with questions, but it’s not every day you get to ask a Lisbon Lion these things.

Does Willie agree with the commonly held point of view that, for all we complain about refereeing decisions, Celtic fare better today in this regard thanks to television scrutiny? Without naming names, can he give an example of a difficult-to-take decision from a game he was playing in?

Willie had been in the QuizBall team whilst at Hearts that is how he got in.

Great story about the Celtic player getting verbal from a oldco player at an Scotland gathering. The oldco star goes to the gents and the Celt follows him in and sorts it out big time- black eyed and battered he was never the same for them again!

Rangers administrators cleared by the IPA

The administrators of the former Rangers Football Club have been cleared of misconduct over its handling of the Scottish club.

It was alleged that joint administrators Paul Clark and David Whitehouse, partners of Duff and Phelps, had prior knowledge that the club had been purchased by former Rangers chairman Craig Whyte on the back of a promise of three years of season ticket sales.

Recordings of a conversation between Duff and Phelps partner, David Grier and Whyte, were purported to confirm that the administrators were aware of the controversial Ticketus deal.

This however was rejected by the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA) which found that the former joint administrators to the club did not have a case to answer in relation to the charges, as they ‘complied with the relevant guidance’ throughout.

An IPA statement said: ‘The investigation committee, made up of independent practitioners and lay members, has, over the past 13 months, carried out a thorough investigation of the administration of Rangers Football Club and the actions of the joint administrators in agreeing to accept the appointment and has concluded that the practitioners complied with the relevant guidance and legislation.’

Duff and Phelps confirmed Grier was indeed aware of the Ticketus deal but did not know how much money Whyte intended to borrow against future season ticket sales and was unaware that the capital, initially £24.4million, would be used to pay off the club’s bank debt.

Rangers was forced into administration on 14 February last year by HMRC over non-payment of tax totalling about £14m, and was subsequently liquidated in June 2012. The club reformed as new-co and was forced to play football in the third tier of Scottish football.

There’s so many – remember Willie played for other teams and they got worse treatment against oldco then even Celtic got. Talking about a game where Hearts played then off the park but simply weren’t allowed to win.

Willie reckons THEY always got a leg up when things were needed.

Has Mel Gibson ever issued an apology to Willie Wallace for making an erse of Braveheart?

Gibson must have been on the sauce at the time to mistake a guy with paint on his face for the Bhoy with the Hoops on his back.
