Life truisms and leaving extra in the Hampden lockers

1052

There are truisms in life.  The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, night follows day and Hibernian Football Club will not win the Scottish Cup.  However, a failure to lift the trophy since Orville said to Wilbur, ‘I bet this thing gets off the ground’, does not guarantee subsequent failures.  Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and are perfectly capable of doing so again on Sunday.

Before this season Kilmarnock hadn’t won at Celtic Park since 1955, but it happened.  St Johnstone, Motherwell, St Mirren, Inverness and Ross County beat us too.  All these defeats were against the odds; no more so than Hibs are on Sunday.

Celtic need to get in touch with how they felt after their League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren, a day of so much regret.  The 90 minutes will pass quickly, there’s no point leaving something in your locker for next week. Let’s get off to a flier.

Many thanks for sending over your Seville photographs, we are planning to pull photos and your comments on the event together into a special publication.  If you have any more please send them in, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his book at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 25th May.  Bet he knows what he was doing that very afternoon 46 years earlier.  Get along to see him or order your own signed copy below. This is going to be a great weekend.

  4. See that little sh*t Wilson in the Herald at it again.

He seems to be the only writer this morning who heard the Hamilton chairman say that the SPL brand was now “toxic”. He certainly didn’t describe it as such on his Shortbread interview last night.

Here’s me thinking it’s refreshed without that mob from Govan playing in it.

  5. “CHAMPIONSHIP-winning Ally McCoist has been named as the SFL Third Division Manager of the Year.”

Surely if the SFL has three divisions, it’s the team that finishes top of the first division that wins the “Championship”.

I don’t see how you can have three champions in the same league.

Unless thay are talking about the oldest rookie manager in christemdom’s exploits as a champion pie muncher?

  8. Petec ,

picked up your references to Posties earlier. where in g82 you from ? Originally from Glenside then Oxhill . Remember freezing saturday mornings chasing a ball round those pitches or standing in goal while the other 21 were up the other end for 10 mins at a time.

Still got family in the area.

Good on Big Pierre (although he didn’t use the word the headline did in the quotations anyway).

What would have been better is if he had mentioned the bigger scandal that season involving one Jim Farry which may or may not have cost Celtic one or two trophies but as Tommy Burns said the number of draws was what stopped Celtic winning that league and with a guy like Cadete in the team we might have turned two of those draws into the wins we needed.

We’ll never know but as far as I’m concerned that title should have been voided when it emerged irrevocably that Farry (and a few others no doubt) had done what he/they had.

Never let the Zombies forget that.

We won 9 in a row. They bought/were helped to it with other people’s money and assistance from a guy who was praised for his administrative skills.

Now that I think about it, does anyone believe in history repeating itself?

Innocent civillians are murdered every day in places like Afganistan and Iraq by British and American soldiers. It is no surprise that there are some who wish to take revenge on the perpetrators and while this particular case is shocking in so far that it is something we rarely see on the streets, the victim was a soldier who was fighting a war. In any war, there will be casualties.

As for sending all home, do you mean all muslims, even those born in bred in Britain? If so, where exactly should they be sent “back to where they came from”?

  20. I can’t go back to where I came from. Vernon Street in Marhill doesn’t exists anymore. Neither does Stobhill!

  21. petec – I found a link to the original One in the Jungle mixes the other day. They might be up your (and other’s) alley.

If it’s a “Roll and Sausage” (Lorne on a crispy Morton’s roll) you’re after, look no further than Tiffany’s, 33 Glassford Street, Glesga!

    there, I done it

  23. Go fir it RIchie…..

A wee bus journey from Tiffany’s and you are the cup final…

  24. So Nicky Law from Motherwell then…is that their glamour signing? I can see Steakbake’s cunning plan, get players from the team second in the SPL as that will improve them.

Trouble is he’s still the manager!

  25. Third division manager of the year? Is this a new award, or just one that only seems to have caught the media’s attention this season?

Sounds a bit like the prize for most effort given in the remedial class.
