Life truisms and leaving extra in the Hampden lockers

1052

There are truisms in life.  The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, night follows day and Hibernian Football Club will not win the Scottish Cup.  However, a failure to lift the trophy since Orville said to Wilbur, ‘I bet this thing gets off the ground’, does not guarantee subsequent failures.  Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and are perfectly capable of doing so again on Sunday.

Before this season Kilmarnock hadn’t won at Celtic Park since 1955, but it happened.  St Johnstone, Motherwell, St Mirren, Inverness and Ross County beat us too.  All these defeats were against the odds; no more so than Hibs are on Sunday.

Celtic need to get in touch with how they felt after their League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren, a day of so much regret.  The 90 minutes will pass quickly, there’s no point leaving something in your locker for next week. Let’s get off to a flier.

Many thanks for sending over your Seville photographs, we are planning to pull photos and your comments on the event together into a special publication.  If you have any more please send them in, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his book at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 25th May.  Bet he knows what he was doing that very afternoon 46 years earlier.  Get along to see him or order your own signed copy below. This is going to be a great weekend.

For the guys like me without tickets I enquired of my Hibee ticket possessing colleagues today whether, if I stood outside they would be willing to hand over their tickets as they left in order that I might enjoy the last hour or so. No luck so far but much nervous laughter,!

    Celts,

    Re the KANO 125 tee-total-athon:

First of all many thanks to those who have already donated to either Kitalba in Australia, Sannabhoy or myself. For those who don’t know, the Kano 125 is a group of CQN’ers who decided to go tee total for 125 days whilst putting away £1 per day, the idea was to gather the money and present it to the Celtic 1254125 charity in the name of Martin Kane (Kano) in Perth Australia, the 125 days ended on the 5th May and before I go any further I’ll let Kitalba who’s idea it was, say a few words:

Kano got sick one night, very sick. If it was not for so many Celtic Supporters, from so many places, then Kano would be an ornament in a sterile hospital room. That is not nice because Kano still breathes and he still thinks and he is still a Celtic Supporter to his very core.

A lot of money, by a lot of people, was raised to take Kano home. He can’t ever balance the books, but he’d love to.

None of us gets more than one go on the roundabout of life.

Celtic is celebrating their 125th Birthday and indelibly stamping it into their history by encouraging all to embrace the simple ethos of the clubs founding… let’s try and help those who just don’t have more than the air that they breathe.

A lot of Celtic Supporters are doing a lot of different things to raise money for to help those less fortunate than ourselves. To a lot of people that is no big deal.

I’m determined to help Kano pay back the kindness shown to him by the Celtic Support by supporting my club to help unfortunates. No big deal.

There are some from here who have said they will help me to help Kano to help Celtic to help others.

I will give up the bevie for 125 days and I give up posting on here for 125 days as of the 1st Jan. No big deal really, Kano has done both for the best part of four years.

I ‘m going to put a wee bit aside for each day that I don’t drink or post and forward it to Celtic to hopefully fill a belly that needs a feed or to make an unfortunate hope where only darkness is their dawn.(but maybe I can have St. Pat’s day off so I can share a day with some good Tims)

I’ve only one life and when I’m gone I will soon be forgotten, but if I’ve ever managed to feed one hungry person, if only for one day, then my life was worth something.

No big deal to me or you but the person I fed, he/she will never know where the food came from and they won’t ever be visiting my grave to put some pretty flowers at the base of a head-stone, they’ll be too busy worrying about tomorrow.

I can live with that and like Kano, once I’m gone, I’ll know that I never changed the world, hardly left a mark, but still I took to Celtic and I did something to try and ease the pain of others… sort of the Celtic way.

    *****************

    Nice post Kit,

To continue then, Kitalba has asked that I coordinate the monies and make one payment on everyones behalf to the Celtic 1254125, Paul67 has already supplied me with a name and I’ve been in contact with them.

The Kano Foundation have very kindly accepted a request to use their expertise and set up, to collect the monies into one central area.

Can I ask therefore, that all who took part in the Kano 125, and anyone else who committed to donate or now wish to donate, send their donations into the Kano Foundation via their website, its most important that you include “KANO 1254125” as a reference when making the payment so that all donations can be correctly accounted for.

Also you can pay at ANY bank using the following details:

    Account: The Kano Foundation

    Sort Code: 30 13 01

    Account Number: 00989961

Can someone please repost for the late night session,Aussietims/ moonhowlers and I’ll do the early risers :¬)

Sorry for the long post but it’s for our friend Martin Kane in Australia, we should never forget him, he needs our love.

  19. twists n turns on

TWENTY Scottish clubs are dead men walking after the collapse of league reconstruction plans.

A rebel group of ten First Division outfits are poised to quit the SFL and form a new SPL2.

The remaining 20 SFL clubs will be cast adrift and face a bleak future.

Top-flight chairmen are understood to support the breakaway.

First Division chiefs insist they had to take drastic action after 13 SFL clubs said they would vote against reconstruction at a Hampden summit.

The changes could be rubber-stamped quickly, leaving two leagues of ten teams playing in a stripped-down SFL.

They would feed off £500,000 of Rangers’ TV money next season.

Division Two clubs would also benefit from fixtures against the Glasgow giants.

But if, as expected, Rangers win the title and are promoted, cash would dry up.

Most clubs would have little chance of being promoted to the SPL leagues after it emerged there will be NO play-offs between the two bodies.

A one up, one down model will be used.

Rows over cash distribution and voting structures led to the 42-club plan put forward by the SPL being blocked.

At least 22 votes would be needed to push it through in a vote at a June 10 EGM.

Hamilton chairman Les Gray branded the plans “dead” and confirmed First Division clubs are ready to quit.

Gray said: “We see that EGM vote as an irrelevance. It has been voted down so it is a failed vote in our eyes.

“We will now look at all the other alternatives to us and we will do what is right for our clubs now.

“It will involve getting change for next season. We will organise meetings with the SPL in the coming days.

“The whole group are very disappointed with the outcome. Everyone has worked incredibly hard to try to get it over the line.

“Obviously, it hasn’t been enough and nearly half the SFL clubs have decided it’s not for them.

“It is really unfortunate and we are all greatly disappointed.”

The First Division clubs held a meeting straight after the SFL summit and Gray is fed up at the stumbling blocks.

He said: “The 42-club solution is what we have been trying to achieve. It has not happened and it is disappointing. It is not going to happen now.

“We are all big boys. It is a democracy and some clubs have made their decision. We will move on with our lives.”

SFL chief David Longmuir will be left with just 20 clubs — and a large chunk of the SPL settlement agreement will go with the rebels.

Longmuir said: “There was no bullying but I think the Second and Third Division clubs are feeling a bit exposed in terms of the way the thing has been handled.

“There is no clarity on an attempted breakaway. There was no mention of a breakaway.”

The breakaway could be seen to shut the door on plans for a pyramid structure at the bottom of the league.

But it’s almost certain the SFA would step in to ensure this still happens.

Hampden chiefs see this as one of the key elements to take our game forward and are determined to push it through.

Angry Annan chairman Henry McClelland said: “There is something inherently and fundamentally wrong with this.

“It flies in the face of the principles of a merger. It doesn’t feel like a merger the way stuff comes back from the SPL.

“It is an aggressive takeover. It isn’t in the spirit of two bodies trying to merge for the good of the game.

“We are being dictated to, in terms of the tone and language being used.

“It is such a shame. There are so many positive aspects to this, but at the same time there is this distaste
