Limiting the Lothians

194

We are two games away from the league split.  Celtic are due to face the three clubs immediately below them: Newco and Hearts and Aberdeen away from home. We will face fifth place St Mirren at home, but sixth place is still up for grabs.

Hibs have a single point advantage over Livingston, so it could go either way.  We have already played both twice at Celtic Park on league duty this season, whomever we meet, will have to travel to Celtic Park for a third time.  Livi and Hibs have both proven to be difficult venues for Celtic, so no hardship limiting our visits to the Lothians.

Today we hear from John Sweeney, who is part of the Road to Seville team that plan to cycle from Celtic Park to Seville next month, 20 years after he first visited the city on a Celtic pilgrimage.  John is a season ticket holder from Croydon, talks about his Celtic life and why the Foundation is an essential part of his Celtic life.

You can support the great work of your Foundation as well as encouraging John and the other cyclists here.  Thank you, it is enormously appreciated.

Hearts in 2017/8 had only 18 home games.

It only happens very very rarely but it can happen that a team has 18 or 20 home games.

  2. I’ve been considering a solution to cut down on grabbing players’ shirts. I propose to remove shirts from the game entirely, players instead have their upper body painted in the colours of their team. These could be semi-permanent tattoos, or bodypaint touched up by a team of artists at half time. Though this solution could be a trifle cruel for players such as Morelos, while also quite painful if anyone managed to grab a handful of spare tyre.

“Looks like I have missed again on 2nd ballot, very unfair, them supporters who were successful in the cup final should have been put back in the queue, but I suppose Them in Celtic Supporters Association, who in my opinion do not represent the ordinary Celtic Fans ,Joe O’Rourke and his cronies for not stirring it ,decent outside and inside facilities will have no problems getting tickets,as for the supposed trouble makers,”

You have been a bit unlucky but I think there’s less corruption than you think.

I got a ticket for the LC final earlier but I have missed out on both ballots for the SC semi-final too. I know a lot of people in groups. and supporter buses and they are reporting, on average, a 50% allocation for all those who subscribed and were qualified on the HCT scheme.

I can’t say that nobody got more than 50% of what they asked for but no-one I know did. There was, in the past, a lot of suspect dealing in the Ticket Office but I think a lot has been clamped down on these last few years.

On the law of averages, I would have high hopes that you and I might land SC final tickets. If you lose out on another ballot, and you have been accepting tickets for the early rounds, then I would double check that you are actually registered on the scheme.

  4. As I understand it, the ultras groups both sides are not banned from getting tickets for the semi-final.

However, Police and SFA have decided that no banners, pyro or organised displays will be allowed to be set up with early entry to the stadium. And they are looking to the clubs to limit their set aside allocations.

Bieng the ultras goups they are, they would probably say all or nothing.

I was amazed that the groups had access to Hampden from 9am on the League Cup Final day.

And the pre game early morning running scuffles were arranged and planned, only people not in the know seems to be the polis, I mean ffs.

    So lets see.

I dont care anyway, in a private arrangement with the ticket office, they stash away 4 seats for me, behind the celtic dug-out, and i can take them up whenever I can be bothered ……….

see it depends on who you know.

Granted it’s not as common as I had thought – I crossed my wires with home/away balance against each team, but… to my knowledge both Hearts and St Johnstone have had an 18-20 season in recent years, and I think Aberdeen too. Others have had a 20-18 season though counter-intuitively, not necessarily in the same season as another club has an 18-20. It’s the way the SPFL cookie crumbles…

To be fair, you were talking about Jim Kennedy handing out tickets to clubs.

Jim passed away 20 years ago and he stopped working as ticket officer in the early 90s, so hardly a fair barometer of curruption in the ticket office.

  10. PB,

I had many an experience of the old ticket pick up for the Greenock Shammy.

I met the President on many occasions.

I dont disbelieve your comments at all.

I do wonder about people claiming the ticket office is corrupt, especially when the allocation has actually went to a second ballot, this suggests poeple offered tickets turned them down or more became available ie those originally going to the Green Brigade.

I’m just giving an example of my experience in the past of running a bus and what I came up against

Is there favouritism in the modern TO, no idea I don’t run a bus any more!

  14. BB,

I dont know that they are going as an organised seperated section.

There is a thread on Kerrydale St, and comments on twitter, that those seats that normally open up for the GB (behind the goal celtic end) to exclusively purchase, were put up in the 2nd ballot for the HCTS members.

See you in the Victoria Bar before the huns game on the 30th. You’re buying ya St Joe’s hooligan. 😂

  16. Also –

The North Curve Collective is 2,800 standing section, the Green Brigade are what number around 500 ?

So if 50% of everyone there got into the ballot and got a ticket, they just didnt get them in a dedicated area of hampden, it was a pot luck , buy fast or you dont get them.

    A scrammy if you will.

No organised TIFO but we will be there in some form,

In the late 70’s and 80’s I helped run the Mount Carmel bus from Killie, had one of the largest memberships in Ayrshire. Went up to the ticket office for our Aberdeen allocation. Got 17 tickets, the bhoy in front of me was a Glesga CSC. No where near our membership, full bus allocation.

    ——–

    Interesting tale PB.

Many decades ago, I travelled to matches on a certain supporters bus.

I was rowdy, it was rebellious, it was wild.

Debauchery abounded on the journeys …. and that included the committee.

But one thing I’ll say for the convener ( I regret I cannot recall his name).

If Charlie III was organising his coronation in a phone box?

… This guy would get us tickets for it.

    Unbelievable.

  20. Prestonpans bhoys on

    BRRB

    I’m afraid not…………..

I failed in both ballots, as I said on here and SC, the HTS is well oversubscribed, Its probably double from when I joined and the only fair way….. if you get a ticket for one game then you should be at the back of the bus for the next one.

Of course, the original headline also lacks quotation marks around the word Rangers.
