Livingston 11 days to rest and prepare for Celtic

108

Celtic have played in three competitions since Livingston’s last match.  That’s 11 days our opponents have had to work on stamina, then rest, as well as fine-tuning technique defending against the specific threat of Celtic.  All of that time will have been spent on the pitch we play on tonight.  It is unlikely we have faced a more prepared team all season.

By contrast, Celtic players’ preparation for tonight’s match will have started yesterday.  The artificial surface, which caused so many problems earlier in the season, is the principle challenge to overcome.  Since then we have won on artificial surfaces at Kilmarnock and twice at Hamilton, although both visits to Lanarkshire were tense affairs.

With five games before the split, Livingston are six points ahead of seventh place Kilmarnock.  Lose tonight, and that gap could close to three points, with the teams due to meet next month.  We can expect as much of a battle as we faced against St Johnstone or Copenhagen.

Excellent post, the guys I go to games with and I often have a laugh at the expense of the Liverpool/Manu/Arsenal Irish fans, many of them probably have no idea who the first 11 would be.

  2. WEDNESDAY 4TH MAY 1981

Fr Murphy was in tonight. I have not felt too bad today, although I notice the energy beginning to drain. But it is quite early yet. I got showered today and had my hair cut, which made me feel quite good. Ten years younger, the boys joke, but I feel twenty years older, the inevitable consequence of eight years of torture and imprisonment.

I am abreast with the news and view with utter disgust and anger the Reagan/Thatcher plot. It seems quite clear that they intend to counteract Russian expansionism with imperialist expansionism, to protect their vital interests they say.

What they mean is they covet other nations’ resources. They want to steal what they haven’t got and to do so (as the future may unfortunately prove) they will murder oppressed people and deny them their sovereignty as nations. No doubt Mr Haughey will toe the line in Ireland when Thatcher so demands.

Noticed a rarity today: jam with the tea, and by the way the Screws are glaring at the food. They seem more in need of it than my good self.

  3. Plastic pitch requires futsal players like Rogic.

Midfield excellent v Killie. Similar lineup tonight should get the points

timmy7_noted Cheers mate , Remember even if we lose tonight and the gap gets less and less the Huns don’t have the bottle to see it through so we will still win No9 ;)

  5. I would like Celtic tonight to be inspired by history.in 1970 we played Italian champions Fiorentina winning 3-0 at home.

Tonight I would like a bit of team responsibility to be taken by Leigh Griffiths.i only suggest this as Leigh played there and laid the grounds for his scoring prowess,so come on Leigh, bang wan in 😊

I hope we play with real venom tonight,we play,as we have done to win,we didn’t last time we were playing on their street

    Julien,your ready,you know what you’ll face,take care of it

We have a lot to work for.go to it Celts.

  8. timmy7noted, Thanks.

Personally I’d prefer if the Blog was 100% football, but realistically that is not going to happen.

In past year or more, I try to stay away from Political debate to be honest as it usually doesn’t end well.

Problem is if you are tempted in on a subject it’s hard to extricate yourself.

  9. Good evening from a dry chilly North Staffordshire – haven’t read back – have I missed anything – any team news

  10. Thanks HamiltonTim

Hope you get a wee birthday treat with a Tic win tonight Corkie!😉🍀💚🍀

  11. Despite that unexpected result last week against the Danes Celtic have been a driven lot under Neill Lennon in the the past twelve months winning three trophies and a great 16 match run in Europe bouncing back with that cup win last Sunday. Tough game on the way against Livi to-night and the main thing is not to lose and possibly take the three points and run. Glad to hear our prize pit pony, Calmac will be playing despite that blast he took on the arm from Nir.

Corkcelt……. Jeez i thought I knew all there was to know about the Celts ’til I read your excellent post. I remember my late father telling me as a youngster about Celtic being the Irish team which I could never quite figure as they played in Scotland. he was a Waterford man and me first gen Dub and it was not until many years later after reading the history that i could not follow any team other than Celtic.

  12. Corkcelt

Did you get into a never-ending debate.

Watch yourself I got into a short one with canamalar and ended up as muck under the shoe.

  13. Lads, The line ups mentioned are speculative. Nothing Official yet, but it shouldn’t be long now.

  14. Today’s official starting line up v Livingston ……

Forster; Bitton, Jullien, Ajer ; Brown, McGregor; Forrest, Christie, Taylor; Elyounoussi, Edouard

Subs: Bain, Frimpong, Hayes, ElHamed, Rogic, Griffiths, Bayo

  15. Hankray, We all come to Celtic by different routes, but when we arrive we become one family.

Like all families we all see things a bit differently from time to time but in the majority of cases we have a lot more in common than what divides us,

  16. Looks like 4-2-3-1 with Ajer at RB.

I’m thinking Neil is trying to get Elyounissi up to speed for Ibrox.

  17. Paul67 et al

Including Cup ties I reckon over 60 matches of the season have to be played on plastic. In our Premier League.

Thing is Almondvale is a tidy stadium, and sited where it is must get a helluva lot of sunshine for a good part of the year. You can almost hear the grass grow in those parts. Still it looks like we only have to play 7 of them, though hopefully tonight will be the last. Team looks good on paper….
