Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

    That is precisely the point.

Where is Ronnie Hawthorn,Head of Safety Security and Operations.

Not a sight,or comment, from this guy who has presided over a disastrous preparation in Linfield, where he should have recommended a venue reversal at best, and an abandonment due to safety ,at worst.

Were he working for me he would be hauled over the coals,or dismissed, as this is his supposed area of expertise, yet he appears to dis-associate himself from any of this.

He is ex Police so why was he not in the standing area and the Linfield area prior to Kick off to ensure the passageways were not congested and the segregation took into account that any movement that would cause congestion was anticipated.

This is a PR and Safety and Security nightmare which could have been avoided in my view at the away game and better preparation at the Home game.

Sorry but if we are employing a highly paid expert step up or get rid.

I think our PLC will be gutted by the conversation, friends & family that go to the games are more aligned to the GB than any Celtic board …..

Maybe if the Board were annoyed about the cheats than a semi final when Dermot thought “that’s it” maybe the board should realise we have hated being cheated for decades maybe Dermott thought the semi final was more important !

I would stand beside the GB before any of the upper class board members :-)

Rodgers said a few weeks ago he was looking to bring one in who he’d been after for 6 months, the media ran with Musonda Jr when it was in fact Ntcham.

He added that would probably be all until the last week of the transfer window, because that is when clubs start finalising their squads and players who perhaps were hitherto unattainable, suddenly become available. We will know if we have CL or EL to offer players and the budget is adjusted accordingly. Caulker may be an exception and a risk worth taking, but he is unlikely to be anywhere near match fit. Things can change, but if the manager is content then so am I.

Assuming Dembele doesn’t go IMO the positions we will be looking at are RW, RB and CB.

Noticed that John James, in his latest blog, claims that Stuart Milne’s companies lost £25 million in their accounts to June 2016. Haven’t checked it but no reason to disbelieve it. Likewise cumulative debts of £326 million, which as JJ suggests is moving toward Murray territory if true. Which I think it is. Another Scottish success story you will no doubt have read elsewhere. For 40 years Aberdeen was one of the richest cities in Europe, and yet during that time the football club was unable either to redevelop Pittodrie or move to a new-build stadium. Pittodrie itself cannot expand due to the relatively recent construction of residential blocks around the stadium footprint. Surprised Milne would allow that to happen, but then again I do not know if he actually built the blocks in question. Wouldn’t surprise me though. Two masterplans have been developed since, one south of the City, and the other more recent one to the west. The latter depends on, one planning permission, and two the sale of Pittodrie itself no doubt to a housebuilder/ developer. Possibly Milne himself, in a last gasp Murray style gamble.

With other people’s money. And yet he, has the temerity to tell us to “move on”. Something masonic happening here.

I went to Dortmund on Glasgow University bus in 1987.

Four of us didn’t make the return journey as we slept in. It was a long journey home by public transport Dortmund-Koln-Ostende-Dover-London-Glasgow. We found out when we got home that we should have just gone to Dusseldorf and flew home, it would have been just as cheap.

ForT.Ds record purposes, I would like to clarify, although I went on the Uni bus I never actually attended Uni. :-))

  24. So GB get ban due to offensive banners at celtic park, this is music to my ears so long as we stop giving tickets to supporters of sevco, Aberdeen and hearts to name but a few as they regularly offend me with overt hateful, offensive songs and banners or a religous nature at every visit, should be very pleasant this season at our place.

Or we will continue to invite such behaviour by giving out tickets. If celtic are gonna take hardline then that hardline should applyou to all visitors regardless of which colour they wear hh
