Magic from Madrid, share scams in 2012

1894

Atletico Madrid, happy for them?  Not an easy one.  I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974.  They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.

Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons.  Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.

As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany.  “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.

It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico.  Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic.  Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League.  This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.

I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals.  Where were they in December 2012?

Absolutely no clue. It’s just a way that they can achieve what they need to, without ra bears calling them out for lying about sale and leaseback.

There’s plenty of heads in the sand giving it “it’s just paper debt” and the company and club are all interlinked etc. They don’t see it as important and they don’t seem to get how it can be used to the detriment of ‘the club’

    —————————————————

Ha! As you say, they’re about to find out exactly what two separate entities means. They’d be in the same position as they are now, except that they’d have the additional financial burden of an annual lease payment.

Not sure where Rangers FC go. The current Ibrox board lacks trust. ‘Saviour’ Dave King convicted on 41 counts in a High Court. Where to go?

No, they only do over or under cards, won a fair bit last week on over 2.5 cards at the Tic v Utd game.

Am in Spain, and they have only allowed on line betting in the past couple of years, pretty strict here, never seen a betting shop since I have been here, in saying that, I do live in the sticks and hardly ever venture far.

I got paid off late last year as the company I worked for lost out on a couple of contracts, at first the time at home was great what with being able to visit the grandkids more often and doing things like going out in the hills for a walk any time it took my fancy.

After a while though you begin to wonder how long till you find a new job, I got the odd call from agencies asking me to do a few days here and there but that elusive full time job just didn’t come along. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t stressful, you actually begin to wonder if you’ll ever find a job again, then the money worries start. I’m not poor but neither can I afford to go without any money comming in for a prolonged period. I never signed on as I told myself I would get a job soon and to be honest I felt embarrassed to go down to the jobcentre as I still had some savings that we could live off, my wife also works part time so we had some money comming in.

The worse thing about being out of work is actually having to tell people you meet for the first time that you are out of work, I used to dread the question comming up in conversation and would rehearse my answer, which was always positive about my situation saying it’s just the way things are in the construction industry just now and that things are picking up and I’ll get a job soon. Inside though I was so full of doubts, worrying how long our savings would last and how long we could keep paying the bills.

You spend hours at the keyboard sending out speculative CV’s to company’s you have never heard of, you drive about looking for sites that may be looking for workers. You lower your expectations, you will do anything as long as it pays a wage and lets you be part of society again. I’ve worked my whole life and find it unbearable to be out of work, I want a few £’s in my pocket as it gives you freedom and choices in life, you don’t need much just a few £’s to let you go to the pub on a sunday afternoon with your brother and talk shite for an hour or two.

The job I now have isn’t the greatest, it doesn’t pay that much but it puts a smile on my face when I get up in the morning it makes me feel I’m contributing in some small way to this society that we are all part of.

I know others that are out of work and are trying desperately to find work, I’m lucky as I have expierence and skills that employers are looking for. My heart breaks for those young people that I know who don’t have expierence and as a result can’t aquire the sjkill needed to find a job in todays climate.

Can I just say that this site helped me get through the long days of boredom, I don’t get involved in every discussion or debate but I do read most posts and the mainly positive posts on this blog helped me through some bad days

Life can be hard for us in this country but when Paul67 posted about CQN10 and what he wanted us to do it put in perspective my own problems, I’ll never go hungry as my family and friends would rally round and help out, but what would you do if your family and friends were as poor as you and had nothing, no job, no money? CQN10 was something that we should all be proud of. Those kitchens/schoolrooms will still be here after us and the legacy of them will hopefully positively efect 1000’s of lifes.

I feel proud to be part of this community, there are people on this site that do things that are worthy of recognition but they don’t do what they do for personal gain and that is what sets them apart from us mere mortals. We are privilaged to have these people in our mist, people who make a difference in life.

I’m off to Aberdeen in the morning, my involvement wont change the world but it will let those who spend their lifes helping others fighting injustice know that their hard work isn’t appreciated.

Lifes good today, I hope tomorrow is as good.
