Magic from Madrid, share scams in 2012

1894

Atletico Madrid, happy for them?  Not an easy one.  I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974.  They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.

Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons.  Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.

As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany.  “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.

It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico.  Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic.  Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League.  This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.

I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals.  Where were they in December 2012?

    Exactly!

UEFA and SFA are corrupt. I can write that cause it is true and they wont take legal action me because they know they are corrupt. I’d LOVE them to take me to court and try and claim they are not.

    I basically agree with you.

Nobody mentioned taking UEFA to court.

I challenged aw_naw for calling Brian Quinn a criminal and asked him for proof. He then replied by claiming UEFA were corrupt. That is not what I asked.

Those who are in the position to ask the questions should be doing so. Problem is that they might not judge it to be in their interests to do so.

Remember they spiv board have repeatedly said no sale and leaseback. Well there won’t be a sale, at least not the one they thought.

There’ll be a transfer of assets from club to company. Then a sale of the club. And a succession of people will try and run the club making what they can from ticket sales, merch etc all to no avail. A cycle of ever diminishing returns.

They’ll really understand what a separate club and company means. Poor sods.

    Only my opinion.

    —————————————–

Leaseback still required to have a team playing at AyeBrokes though, no? The alternative (Sevco playing somewhere other than AyeBrokes) would surely be a step too far for even the most stubborn? Mind you – blowtorch, neck etc…

The governments even less due to the power of the easily indignant and thats Brian Quinns problem. I see a lot of high paid good connected back slapping going. on but nothing discernable in the way of licensing. Domestic and European. They go hand in hand.

So how in the loop is Brian Quinn with regards resolution 12 would you reckon ?

    Now THAT’S more tricky!

Somehow, especially early in the season (league cup) the European dimension doesn’t help. Somehow the fringe or non first pick players don’t seem to regard it as a chance to stake a claim. Maybe because early rounds are against lesser sides and players don’t think it will actually make any difference to future team selections.

The SC is traditionally difficult to win…can’t think of anything else except we’ve probably played more often than anyone else.

Both instances are things for the management to overcome!

Not when those that run our club constantly bleat about how we cannot possible compete in Europe against clubs with massive resources advantages over us.

I would guess that proportionately Celtic have a bigger advantage over Killie, St. Mirren and Morton combined than Barca etc have over Celtic.

    A wee Seville story

Before leaving Glasgow someone gave me a sticker that said….”when we’re in Seville you’ll be watching the Bill”

Itv, BBC and Sky all had TV crews at Glasgow airport filming the exodus to Seville. every news report finished with the camera panning towards the flight time monitor….and stuck to the bottom of the monitor……the sticker that someone gave me…….I was a star to everyone who knew I’d stuck it there….

  20. They can’t afford Ipox, turnover is no where near enough to maintain the stadium and a competitive team on the park.
