Magic from Madrid, share scams in 2012

1894

Atletico Madrid, happy for them?  Not an easy one.  I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974.  They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.

Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons.  Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.

As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany.  “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.

It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico.  Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic.  Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League.  This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.

I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals.  Where were they in December 2012?

This is Rangers’ most important match in their history, not only do they get the chance to appear in a major final for the first time. If they win they get a platform for season ticket sales that just might save them – in the short term anyway – I reckon that was the reason for Mr King’s preemptive strike.

Tempted to post this frequently over the next 24 hours to remind us all of what Mibbery can achieve for thems.

  18. Please don’t do as I did and don’t scroll back and don’t read page 35 and certainly don’t read petec’s post at 2.57 and don’t click on the link. Because if you don’t then you won’t have that annoyingly brilliant chorus swirling round your head for the rest of the morning.

However, should you ignore my advice then I’m sure you’ll find it as easy as I did to substitute the word at the end of each line to something more suitable that just might rhyme with Crombie.

PS – petec: thanks for that! ;-)

  19. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

    Good Morning One and All,

Only now catching up on the events and discussions of yesterday as the morning was spent at the funeral of the late Jack McAllister former and last provost of Clydebank and the afternoon was spent chatting to a mature woman who stole a wee part of my heart when she was 16 — of course she never gave it back as that’s what happens when you are 16!

I was sad to hear of the passing of former Celtic Goalkeeper Rolando Ugolini.

Ugolini was a great character and despite only playing 5 times for Celtic in a 4 year stay he remained very attached to the club. He was the first Italian who played for Celtic and in the past I have told his story here:

    http://broganrogantrevinoandhogan.wordpress.com/2012/10/08/the-dalmahoy-starter-between-the-sticks/

I see the Rangers accounts are a bit of an oul mess — the costs of running a football team out of Ibrox seems huge — and that is without counting the players. When you add the players wages then you have a mountain of salaries.

Apparently there is football on today — but I will only have a passing interest in that as my team are not playing but obviously I wish all the ex Celts involved all the best.

Beyond that it is out and into the day — meeting up with The Winning Captains in Byres Road later tonight in an attempt to force that fiver out of his pocket. In Tennents around half seven — if your passing bring your own horse and cart for the journey home!

  20. the long wait is over on

    Lubo

I seem to recall its something to do with them putting sand down on the pitch in colder weather.

    Could be utter rubbish though…

  21. King Dave , who will play him in the movie Zombie three. Lovin it. So if sevco don’t beat the arabs, and it would take a OJ moment from the SFA awefishuls to make that fantasy happen, then the brain dead will withhold their tax money and put it in “trust” (really you gotta laff) with Ser Rickard and that will gaurentee armageddon three. Can’t wait. I did like the name Sevco so hopefully the new brethern that own the bigotdome can come up with an equally memorable name for the next Zombie revival. We may not be in the Cup but still havin fun. Have a great weekend CQN.

  22. TLWIO- Mibbery is alive and well but is only really potent when the teams are relatively matched or the contest is even. No amount of Mibbery would ever have stopped the Lions but it was very much evident in 2003, 2005 and 2008 (the Levein rant game).

In theory, today, Utd should be so far ahead that keeping the score respectable will be a result for Sevco, their servile match officials and Ogilive, Broadfoot and the other Ibrox cheerleaders at Hampden.

If Jackie has them wound up and focused the outcome will be inevitable.

  23. Morning everybody

I’m going for a 6-2 win for united

  24. Margaret McGill on

I cannot see Dundee Utd capitulating. If The Huns win it may be beneficial for 2 reasons.

    1. It would be even more obvious to all non Huns in Scotland and everyone outwith the ultimate degree of mibbery there is and the total corruption of the SFA ( that PL is a member of incidentally)

    2. It may well prolong the torture of hunnery before the death of their vanguard. We have been here before. I want a Rangers that stays dead not plays dead.
